What would you like to change or add to the new menu?

Recommended Posts

After reading a lot of topics, I realized that many do not like the new menu, but no one describes specific reasons.
Large menu - it is possible to reduce its size
Items on incomprehensible tabs - download an existing mod
You need to look for a lot of things - add all the necessary items to the favorites tab and everything will be at hand
What other comments or suggestions do you have for the new menu?

i'd like to make it so you didn't need to double click to craft. I'd combine some tabs. I'd switch the order of some items like water balloons out of fighting. I would also change how the character crafts tab looks.

A vote for me as klei president is a vote for change.

there is already a mod for all this)
But officially, I agree it's not enough

A few things, pinned favorite crafts can also act as a fast selection menu for items you want to use instantly without scrolling through your entire backpack, currently the favorites tab only pins the CRAFTING Recipe for the item..

But: Let’s flip the rules upside down on its head, what if: Instead if I already have one of those items crafted, it automatically equips it to my hand/head or whatever slot? Such as:

If I pin Axe,Pickaxe, Darksword, Lantern & Walking cane to this tab..

IF I don’t have those items crafted but I have the ingredients required to craft that item, it will show up in this tab greyed out but pressing A will craft it. If I DO Already have it crafted: then it will automatically equip it when I move over it on the pinned favorites tab.

Effectively allowing players to quickly swap between Walking Cane, Weapon, Tool & Light source instantaneously without having to scroll through or juggle items in your backpack.

The NEW UI has potential to bring massive game changing changes to the way we play this game- but we gotta ask those “What If” Questions to get it there.

The other change i would want is to make the New UI feel like the old UI with almost identical button pressing actions on how you interacted with it (I’ve explained this in two other threads there’s no need to repeat myself here.)

Being able to directly change the skin of pinned craft without needing to open the craft menu

Being able to reorganize favorite tab and pinned craft without needing to de-select/re-select everything.

With that, it would be close to perfect.

Playing since Beta till now, post release, I can say I've learned to... tolerate this new Crafting UI. By no personal metric is good, yet there are some issues I find pressing, among which biggest being one needs to press again on menu's header to make it slide off of screen - while old menu, when clicking outside it, anywhere, it was sliding off smoothly, naturally to let you play the game. It may not seem much for some, but in combat, in dangerous and/or pressing situations, makes a big difference. I get the filters are here to stay, and since I can make my preferred selection, after initial sorting I can ignore them. Still one improvement in the clicking department - click to open, click on filters, 2x click to craft - could be that last 2x left-mouse button clicks can be solved with 1x right-button click. And lastly the [Beta Suggestion] Quick-Access Crafting Menu with More Favorite Slots proposal I've already made. All these 3 to partially emulate old Crafting UI functionality and alleviate many of the new Crafting UI complaints, I reckon.

As a controller player I am finding the pinned item slots very useful, and they are by far the best thing about this update for me. Being able to quickly highlight and craft an item from these slots has really helped to minimise the frustration of accessing items within the new UI. If I were able to add more of these pinned item slots I would double the amount that are pinned to the side and add a full row of pinned slots above the inventory like in the image I mocked up below.

I get the point of filters is to help new players find items that they otherwise wouldn't but once you know in which tab they are duplicate items just create permanent bloat, I wish stuff like morning star wasn't in the light tab etc, I also don't find it helpful at all to have character specific items in tabs other than the survivor's (you can already see all of the available ones by just clicking that one)

1. auto place pre crafted structures

2. craft ingredients from another items recipe (craft cut stone from the pig house recipe)

3. ability to favourite entire filters (mainly refine tab) it could work by just opening the tab in the big menu, so say you have refine tab pinned, clicking it will open the whole refine tab

edit: basically the give above is what i imagined 3. to be. is that a mod or just a gif you made? cause i'd totally download that if i could @Maksym.12

fully working mod, now I'm finishing minor improvements and will update. Look on Steam, the mod won't be far away.

I, too, want to go back to single-clicking items in the menu to craft them instead of having to either double-click or press the Build button. I would also like to be able to change the skin of a pinned item without unpinning it. Changing your default pins from the main menu would also be nice, and that might be able to address the skin thing too.

though instead of showing whether you can create an item, it shows whether you have it :/

thank you for all the work you are putting into this
klei will make changes but it does end up being up to mods to make it possible for everyone to enjoy the game to their liking

Yeah well you see here’s the thing, Pc players can download all the menu altering mods they want to their little hearts desires, but for us CONSOLE Players: The Menu Klei gives us is the Menu we are STUCK WITH, so in all honesty? Controller players should be taking top PRIORITY in how responsive and good the New UI feels & functions- And right now.. there’s a lot of console players who feel like the New UI was added as a QoL for PC KB+Mouse- Whilst at the same time, Making using a console controller worse.

Im hoping Klei staff will make this the best it absolutely can be on a Controller, because WE Can’t install a mod that fixes it to our liking.

IM personally now a bit more mad that klei did not decide to show more of there process with this update with us.
because we are all right now dealing with the finished product
it would have been so much better to hear what they were doing because they had some of the ideas we mentioned in the forums but then they scrapped them for going a completely different route.

I cant believe it honestly. They said the complete opposite the thing is People are more keen to accept something that is somewhat familiar to them. They are less likely to accept something completely different It causes defenses to get up and it causes more people to just disregard the new thing.

I hope all my innovations from the mod will become better and officially that will allow players on the console to get them too, plus menu navigation will become much more convenient, for example, to change the tab, it will be enough to press the right or left trigger

By the way, I had a few ideas on how to get a controller myself and improve the lives of many with it on a PC, I'm waiting for suggestions on navigation from users with controllers
