Any interesting modded characters?

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to see what pops up in these replies, it's sorta hard to find anything good on the workshop when it comes to characters especially since a lot of them are an anime character in a language I can't read to see their perks. Any and all characters are welcome in the replies if anyone even replies.

A character I personally really enjoy is Claus (from Mother 3), he has 2 crazy strong powers that he can use at the cost of basically all your sanity as well as a last ditch masked man mode where he becomes a bit of a glass cannon like Wanda, it's also cool how the masked man mode will transform his unique weapon (a knife) into an electrifying sword.

i dont know, there never any good mod characters it seems, and as you say, there only like those same anime character that are most likly way to broken op of some sorts, but i found this funny one

Always loved mods from The Tiddler, and one of my favorite characters I played in DS that was remade in DST was William J. Danninghar (or rather, William the Toymaker in this case):

As well as a playable Charlie by Maxie McSpookington:

William seems pretty sick, and Charlies such a nice classic. Good picks!

There's also Woat the boat, you just play as a controllable boat who can be walked on and have stuff place on them and everything.

Spoiler

In all seriousness though, pretty much any character mod by GoatSlice you can't go wrong with. I love his take on the Shipwrecked Characters mod.

I had fun with Reign of Runts. Sprite design seems consistent and they add really fun custom attack gimmicks (bearger stomp, goose spin). I kinda wished klei would do add something like this for character refreshes tbh.

Default settings are not grossly overpowered and can be customized. Also, very nicely produced video!

Wish the creator would've done more giants but can't complain considering its free content and it's extremely high quality.

Jerma based, I like his mechanic of not playing the game and instead steaming, 10/10

Yes!  I was wondering if somebody was gonna mention Wirlywings before I could get to it.  And Charlie!  I've played as both of them, especially Charlie.

Here she is with cats, because Year of the Catcoon.

...and in the Cherry Forest, to make up for the fact that I don't actually seem to have any Wirlywings gameplay shots.

(deadpan)  Oh no.  You're (who is that, anyway?!) taking my fire.  whatever shall i do.

Anyway it's a Chinese mod, but I rather like the "Myth Words" one and its characters.  The main one I've played as is Nezha,

nezhaandstream.thumb.png.8a1589a58564a95ad43614a6af5e62e8.png

but one of these days I'll remember to play as the others. (The pond and stream are from the newer, fancier verison of the "Thirst" mod, which does not have characters so that's why I'm not linking it in this thread.  : P)

Then there's the "EPIC" mod, whose page on Steam is for some reason now not showing even the teensiest bit of what's actually in it.  But IF this is the same mod I remember, it's got multiple characters.  I played as the lady mime one; she was pretty cool.

If "technically in the DS universe but not actually part of DST" counts, then I can definitely recommend the Shipwrecked Characters mod--even though it had to be reduced by one character when Warly became official!  I've played as Walani a lot--like, my "Civilizations Challenge" saga was played as her.  Hence I have way too many screenshots, so have a random one:

dstcivday88highpriestess.png.2a67349d9226f26f0797128aaf7bbc9e.png

(and by "random", I mean, "I chose another Chinese New Year Shrine pic on purpose because it's the Year of the Tiger so of course I did".)

...Notorious

Seconding the Charlie mod (there's also a newer, fancier second Charlie mod based on it), Reign of Runts, and Shipwrecked Characters, and throwing in ItsTheBlob's mod of The Lodger from Knock-knock. Or The Wodger, if you will. I like how much thought and detail the modder put into his dialogue. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1525842184

Also shoutout to the Hamlet character ports (specifically reporked as it fixed Wilba), Hamlet characters fit pretty well in together tbh and I enjoy them a lot. I wish for the ported Shipwrecked characters they gave Wilbur Primeapes or Splumonkeys, you can even see a few instances of me begging for it in the steam comments, but alas no monke taming :(, gotta stick with tropical experiences Wilbur I guess. I like how high quality the myth world characters are but I'm not a fan of how overpowered they all seem to be, maybe they just look broken but as soon as I saw that monkey with an infinite weapon that summons other versions of himself to deal massive damage as well as it not being able to slip out of his hands like other weapons the mod kinda lost me. Haven't seen EPIC before actually, will check it out.

Wait... I'm the only one who can play that...

Why not release it to the public my friend?

I love playing as Deerclops, even if he's probabaly the most simple just having the ability to freeze enemies in combat is fun, especially how it provides a chance to heal if the boss doesn't go away much.

It's technically on the workshop, just unlisted, the thing is, due to how it's coded, it only affects me, like literally me, even if someone else is hosting a server with the mod.

Why on gods earth would you do that?

Oh yeah, I can't believe I forgot about the Hamlet characters mod(s)!  As for Myth Words, I guess I never got as far as using the weird powers (or even learning _how_ to use them, lol). I was more distracted by the fact that the world objects didn't seem to have generated in, so I went back to the mod pages and tried to figure out what I'd done wrong.  Nezha wandering along pretty flowing (and confused) streams

mywaterisconfused.thumb.png.a63597498995cc59ec7b4b38721eef3e.png

is about as far as I got.  : P
(Yes, you're seeing that right--the freshwater stream (you can drink from it without problems) is flowing on TOP of the presumably saltwater ocean.  XD.)

As for EPIC, I wish the Steam page for it was the way it used to be.  I'd love to be able to actually read about the characters before I recommend it to anyone.  I do remember that as a whole, it's one of those BIG fat complex mods that adds a bunch of stuff and probably took a lot of work to make--and that's awesome, but this thread in particular is about modded CHARACTERS.

Oh, and by the way, in case you're thinking Charlie's ability to not be killed by darkness makes her the perfect character to play a Lights Out world with?

shadowonshadowaction.thumb.png.f127d2c0aef1c678a7d238f54cb23e35.png

...no.  No it doesn't.  I did, however, find out just how freaking BRIGHT the insanity effects can make things, weirdly enough...Look how easily you can see things here!*  Anyway, the point of this picture is:  Proving Charlie (that version, anyway) is not in fact overpowered.

And that's the tea.

*I mean, you can see them in the _normal_-vision way, not the moggle-vision outlines.
Also the teakettle is from the "Thirsty for Tea" mod, same as the river and the kidney icon.

it might just be me, but I feel the kidney icon looks out of place, I feel like it should be redrawn to look more fitting with the DS artstyle.

My favourite character mod of all time:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1836542884&searchtext=wuzzy

?imw=268&imh=268&ima=fit&impolicy=Letter

Wuzzy has unique structures, items, and mechanics. Suffers from non-sweetened foods, lower damage output, and cold weather, but can summon 5 types of bees to help offset these drawbacks.

A well made character with it's own progression and good balance.

Gotta love characters based in the constant, or at least I do. Webber (kinda), Wurt and Wilba are some of my favourite characters and they all follow this design.
