Recommended Posts

Soldiers, it's started! The fateful day has arrived!

Come here and seek refuge before the bombs arrive. I can already hear them, the ghastly voices " This is underwhelimmmggg.... "  " This should  be a nerfffff.... "  " Why Klei made thissss....."  " Why i think Wolfgang should be better...."

This is a safe space, this is a holy bunker to save you.... from the flame... the flame of ... *gulp*  I HAVE OPINIONS AND YOU'RE WRONG!

Spoiler

This is obviously a joke post, but it's also meant for posting here everything you have in mind about the incoming Wolfgang rework.   Please don't drop bombs and fire here just for a character, you can discuss without creating a war zone. Be a civil human for once, thx  :)

I dunno if I would sell it tho - on one side I like to show off (especially when it'll become Heirloom Elegant), but on the other - DLC for ONI is being released soon...

Based on what the vague patch notes say it doesn't look promising. In a post-rework world Wolfgang has been behind the curve with his only use being against bosses, which aren't that much of the game and he's not even inarguably the best against them. I was expecting him to get some minor buffs on top of what he has like mightiness affecting chop, mine, smash, and carrying heavy objects, so he'd be a bit more well-rounded. Instead it looks like he's going to be the first character to receive a rework that becomes less rounded and more pigeon-holed. Even if the gym minigame isn't annoying and you can build a gym without too much trouble and the consumables aren't obnoxious and all of that is good & fine and fighting while mighty is still just as accessible, he's still lost the speed boost which was the only general perk he had. Now he's only got perks about fighting bosses.

Oh and rowing really hard, I guess.

Most of @Toros's ideas will be actually implemented in the game, which i see it as a victory, since it's not only rowing hard. Finally Wolfgang will turn from the most boring character to less boring, fun and more flavoured in character!

Now in terms of gameplay, balance, ecc..... i don't know. You have a good point, as many others players here in the forum said. I can't express my opinions about, until i try it. It doesn't seems easy to comprehend on paper, so it's better to wait and see. What i can say is one super duper important thing, which may not everyone remember.

At the start of all, when don't starve together seemed ""dead"", Klei came up with the ocean, new story arc, bla, bla, and of course, characters reworks. Now from what i definitely remember, the mission of Klei was never meant to REALLY balance the characters. They always meant to be as refresh, making it more "fun" and importantly, more in character! (Example Wolfgang rowing better or carrying better heavy objects).

So what i'm saying is, these results were predictable in the end. Just look at the state of Winona, Warly, Wurt, in some ways Wendy, ecc....

We'll see.

Yes, exactly. Literally every single rework has been buffs, sometimes huge buffs like Wendy, and they usually also make the character more generalized and less specialized. So why nerf Wolfgang? If balance isn't the concern and it's just to make him more fun, why did they make it so that instead of moving fast and hitting hard he just hits hard? He, according to the vague patch notes, didn't even get anything in compensation. Maybe it'll be easier to maintain mightiness, but he definitely has lost the only general use thing he has and is now purely a combat character.

I'm not commenting on the gym, or the minigame, because I don't know how those will be. What I do know is that he was never a particularly powerful character who's always been overly specialized into one thing and this rework seems like it's going to be exacerbating those issues instead of addressing them.

What?

..im yanking ur chain. It has been yanked/yunk. :crushed:

combat is the only threat in the game once u overcome the fundamental basics of food light and the elements. Double damage is a huge perk in that area, pretending its only useful for bosses and thats all that wolfgang is good for is weird imo.

From spiders to elemental hounds, cookie cutters, shadow splumonkeys, nightmares, depth worms, double bishops etc etc theres a huge boon and a lot of utility in being able to kill these things in half the hits of a wilson.

Bringing up wendy as the best small mob killer is like... well yeah...(if you insist)... but where does that leave us? Not everyone wants to play wendy

You can kite and he’s outclassed in mob killing which even then things like hounds have farms which is why combat especially high dps is situational

Personally, I'm just here to watch the chaos. Never liked "Meta" characters that much, feels like playing easy mode. Like, sure you can stuff your face with spicy gourmet beef wellingtons while playing as Whanos the destroyer and use the Dong Smasher 9000 to kill deerclops in in 0.1 seconds, but what does that net you that a slower method won't? There's no real difference, just the time it took to fight them and collect resources.

Trying to optimize characters to be the strongest they can possibly be is cool and good and all, but it's not a requirement. You can still use the most average, suboptimal gear you can find on Wes and kill every boss. It will be harder, and it will take much more skill, but it's still very doable.

It's like comparing a super fast billion horsepower car with some shitty family van. You can spend all day listing how much better the sports car is, but at the end of the day they just drive on the road and take you from point A to point B. The van can easily do that, and thats all it needs to do. It might be nicer to be in the sports car, but you can easily get by without it.

At the end of the day, all the stats and numbers in the world don't actually matter, all it does is save you a bit of time, that's it. That's really all everyone has been arguing about this whole time. Trying to get the right build to play the game as little as possible.

I say let's the fire rain, people will pointlessly rage and seethe no matter what, so we might as well watch the fireworks.

On a serious note, yeah. I'm enjoying too the fireworks but apart of what you all said (you really took my words out), i always standed that the most important thing in all of this chaos for characters it's always "fun" and enjoyment. Fun is difficult to achieve, since everybody have their concept of "fun", which is why there are normal people out here giving nice criticism about it, on how to improve it and what are the problems.

Needs more utility and team perks.
I dislike the gym not being a team beneficial thing (Anyone can benefit from hitting the gym, Wolfgang should be their trainer and maybe give them some side boost)

The carrying heavy objects somewhat faster it’s a missing opportunity, why not give Wolfgang the means to weaponize those? Maybe toss them around and deal AOE stun or something.

Other than that he’s fine. I’m not gonna use Wolfgang anyway, none of these changes made him more appealing or interesting.
