Is there any other source of isoresin other than the infernal tree?

Recommended Posts

It's my first playthgough on SO and I enjoy the game for the most part. I'm bordering on the hydrogen rocket and looking for insulation to get the liquid gasses going. I've noe explored all of space but I've been watching Francis on Youtube and just watching him feed the experiment. I'm, struggling to feed my own colony at the moment, racing to set up a couple of farms for berry sludge which will help in exploring space as well. So my question is, are there any otyher sources of Isoresin available other than the tree? If not then I'm just gonna leave the game where I'm at and hope that something comes along in a later update, i'm getting really frustrated with the slowdown issues since cycle 200, yes I'm sweeping and tryingnot to mix gasses, i think a lot is from cooling loops and pathing. I'm even using process lasso to help speed things up. My rig has polenty of resources not being used so this is an engine limitation. I am already feeling like this is a grind just fighting the speed of the game, which is a shame because it is a great game. If this is the only way to get isoresin then I'm off to play a more finished game that is not such a grindfest.

The tree is the only source of isoresin in the dlc and it will likely stay this way into release. I don`t understand how are you having food issues 200 cycles in. Most people have food overproduction issues at that time.

It`s also not as grindy as getting isoresin in the vanilla game. Getting large amounts could take space missions to gas giant that could take 20+ cycles. Trips to closer planets gave a miniscule amount. Moreso you needed many tons of steel before even going to space. That was a grindfest. compared to that setting a base near the hungry tree with 2 farmers and a lot of crops is much faster.

I have to agree on the performance though. It goes under 20 fps before the third planetoid gets colonized for me so i hope they`ll try to optimize it a bit.

There is a mod that lets the tree produce more resin, configureable: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2467498655

The other way is mutating sleet wheat to become exuberant, using fertiliser and grubgrub rubs, which ideally is ~4,800 kcal per cycle, per plant, or 0.6kg isoresin per cycle. 100 plants = 60kg, enough for 1 insulated pipe per cycle.

But why would you stop at 100 plants? Do 200, do 300, fill a whole planet with them, and soon you will have an ocean of visco gel. Maybe.

as he play first time, there is allot what he may not understand correctly , how build this and how build that, im suprised that he even survived that long

Looking at this calculation means only one thing for me really - it's useless. If 100? pimped out plants gives you 1 insulated pipe per cycle.. thats like grinding^2. Why would you make getting resources so insanely difficult if it's supopsed to be a building material?
It looks like right now it's just a novelty.. might need to work few hundred cycles when you need some super insulation for volcano taming or something.
Was it so bad without DLC? I think I've used it and it wasn't that kind of effort.

I do hope I misunderstood something so pleace correct me :)

@Orzelek Well, 1 insulated pipe is actually 400 kg of insulation, which also takes 20 reed fibers to make. To obtain 20 reed fibers per cycle, you will need 40 thimble reeds and around 4 polluted water vents. So I think reed fiber is the bigger gatekeep in this case.

It took hundreds of cycles just because you needed to travel that far to reach a good source of isoresin. I think now that space travel became less of a grind, the tree feels more grindy (but I could be wrong...)

Either way it seems like toy for people playing for thousands of cycles.. not really useful for anyone else.
Maybe some rebalance is in order to let us actually use the stuff?

the question I ask is another:
is isoresin what will define your game? or is it just something more than something you already had that was enough?

anyway I liked the name of the topic, starting today I will refer to the experiment of: infernal tree xD

I agree on the name.. altho I haven't seen it yet :D
I have no idea if it defines the game or not - but from descriptions here it seems like something added for most hardcore players and unobtanium for the rest. If thats the intended design it seems to meet it.

Also - ceramic will get you to lox, lh.

for me that's the point, there are always other ways to reach a point

the isoresin, i considered as newbie trap when i played vanilla, is what you think: "gosh this is what i need to end all my heat/cold problems" but then i got it: it's just a late item game, for when you have everything resolved and want to make everything perfect, because there are other ways to obtain similar or as good results as

in my view, his goal is to make more visco-gel than the super insulator

is the same as liquid hydrogen, is it worth all the effort to make liquid hydrogen to put in a rocket, that any other fuel does not solve?

"Infernal tree"? Now I am looking forward to finally getting to it!

While it is hostile and very violent, it does not actually set things on fire.  It is therefore technically incorrect to call it "infernal".
