thegreatJash
Hello everyone, with the last patch in the Eye of the Storm beta there have been a lot of changes in the new boss fight, many of which they didn't mention in the notes. Here is a list and my thoughts: Phase 1: The Champion's first phase has received it's normal flap stomp attack back. This is pretty much it. Phase 2: The Champion's second phase has received its normal melee attack back as well. There is also a change in the pattern of its attacks. It will do its normal spin attack, as usual, and then if the player is close enough, will perform a random two two melee attacks. Either the triple Gestault attack, the normal melee, or the spike attack. There is a small window in between the two melee attacks and the Champion will not perform two of the same attack in a row. Also, the spike attack now has a hitbox, so you can't just stand there and continue to hit the boss while it is performing this attack unless you want to get hit. If the player is two far away after the Champion first melee attack, it will just do another spin attack. Rinse and repeat. Phase 3: This phase changed the most, and it is definitely the most dangerous out of the three as of me writing this. Upon summoning those glass crystals, there will be a lot more than before falling from the sky, around 7-9 from my experience. The Champion will also continue to camp out near them as well, which is actually more annoying than before because there are now more shards around it. A Weather Pain is mandatory to remove these shards. The Champion's phase 3 Gestault attack is also much more dangerous than before, and there will be many more Gestaults and Greater Gestaults being summoned. Staying still for only a moment will most likely result in the character falling asleep. But the biggest change in my opinion is the changes to its laser attack. All variants of the laser attack will hit the player twice, with the initial hit and the second hit shortly following it. Klei most likely did this to discourage the use of Bone Armor, because the item will no longer allow the player to completely ignore the attack. Overall, I like the changes made to the first and second phases. However, the only problem I really have with third phase is how it camps out constantly around the shards. Now there are many more shards summoned, it is almost impossible to approach it with destroying them with a Weather Pain. And if there aren't enough shards around the boss, it will simply spawn more. SinancoTheBest
Aww sad to hear we'll require Weather Pain in yet another fight if they keep Phase 3's behavior like this. I hope they change its behavior once again. Otherwise, the changes sound exciting. You definitely can beat it without the weather pain. I did the fight post change 6 times (I really wanted lights okay) without it, and while it certainly was far more cumbersome, it didn’t actively prevent me from killing it. I recommend baiting the lasers to try to break the crystals, as breaking even 2-3 of them will almost always give you a working space to fight the champion while also not getting put to sleep yourself. You can also utilize the window when the crystals are breaking (they now break after being around for 45 seconds) and when it’s summoning more to snag ~8-10 additional hits in if you are quick enough. Just don’t get trapped in the process! If you absolutely need to get one out of the way and you don’t wish to use a weather pain, the devs did actually nerf the amount of hits it takes to break the crystals. You only need 3 hits to destroy it, and while risky that’s certainly doable. Roodmas
As someone who's waiting for this content to enter the main game, how often can you fight the champion? Does it have a 20 day cooldown like many other bosses? There's no cooldown, but you do need to rebuild the Lunar Siphonator each time, which means gathering 3 Restrained Statics, 30 Charged Moon Glass and 15 Moongleams per fight. Which to confirm, can technically be gathered infinitely before fightinh him right? Seems worth while gathering enough materials for a few fights to avoid having to do the whole moonstorm again each time. Yes I was actually planning farm a lot of the material so in future fight, if i dont want to help wagstaff, i can go directly to the fight Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/129393-new-changes-with-the-celestial-champion-boss-fight/#findComment-1453651 Share on other sites
Roodmas
I suppose that also helps us reduce the chances of spawning a moonstorm in our base and having to go back there to have it kill things. Or do moonstorms kill things off screen? Cant confirm but i guess that the electricity balls dont spawn offscreen so there souldnt be a danger of animals in pens getting hurt if you dont spend time in the moonstorm Also, again idk, other users said that the moonstorm change position after a while even if you didnt did the wagstaff quest Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/129393-new-changes-with-the-celestial-champion-boss-fight/#findComment-1453655 Share on other sites
DaZoul
I haven't tested this myself, but I don't think the new laser patterns completely eliminate the Bone Armor's usage in that attack. The Bone Armor can still defend you from the first strike, and because there is no pain animation, one would theoretically have enough time to move out of the way of the second strike. again, I haven't tested this yet, but I do think it's entirely possible Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/129393-new-changes-with-the-celestial-champion-boss-fight/#findComment-1453665 Share on other sites
