Oh I feel your pain, as someone with high standards for boss fights, I can roughly see what you mean by "actual boss". I still enjoy logging with Bearger, but I'd take fun boss fights over logging. You know very well it'll never happen though, perhaps learn how to mod to change Bearger to be the boss you desire?

These threads will not get anywhere by themselves though, so why not expand on this discussion and convince us by mentioning what kind of attacks you want Bearger to have?

I'll throw out some random ideas just for you. The charge-pound attack only starts the ground pound when the player is closer to Bearger than the actual player damage radius, increasing his ground pound accuracy, but in exchange his charging accuracy decreases a bit to allow escape by walking out of his running direction. Bearger could throw honey or a damaging rolling ball of fur. Bearger could yawn out sleep bubbles instead of instant sleep, where touching the bubbles causes mini-AOE sleep. Bearger could gain a deafening roar. Bearger could grab you and fling you away. Bearger could be distracted by placed food mid-fight or something for a free hit or attack cancel, where each type of food only works once. Get creative.

There are Raid Bosses for that, you chose when you fight them for relatively good loot, yet they are pretty hard to beat (more so if playing solo and, of course, without scaling mods aka vanilla).

On the other hand Season Bosses like Bear and Deer are a lot weaker and simpler precisely because they come each year after you (more or less, none of the seasonal bosses, as explained in a previous post here, don't have a proverbial bone to pick with player; they go for food, structures etc, player gets caught in the middle and fight ensues), plus their loot is becoming obsolete after first of each mentioned bosses were defeated. For Bear, aside Meat it drops, Pelt can be made either into Insulated Pack or Hibearnation Vest; after that, for one player, future Bear Pelts become useless, and most advanced player chose to either use CareBear for lumberjack work or teleport it on a small Moon archipelago Island.

One more aspect one should keep to mind when asking for buffs of mobs/seasonal bosses is how that would impact bulk player-base as a whole. On that train of thoughts even how he is now, Bearger has a big impact in the game-play of most players out there to the point of being a real, often insurmountable threat.

Ah, I indeed did forget to account for the player-base, woops. I was moreso thinking with the mindset of "what if you modded it in", seeing that there was no need to give further reasons on why a Bearger rework isn't needed since it wouldn't happen anyways. Besides, I wanted to add discussion on the side of what OP possibly wants Bearger to be like when he said he didn't want him to only be a logger.

if being a free lumberjack equals to "not be an actual boss" then I guess neither is Deerclops :v
I tend too do the same thing with Deerclops, yes she isn't as effective as bearger but still do an ok jobs (I think Klei did "nerf" her big hitbox to make her even less effective to chop down tree but still, she can be a free lumberjack too)

tbh it's up to you :v

if you want to fight them, then they are the boss for ya, if you don't, they become a slave ...I mean a tool :v (or an "extra thicc pet")

Bearger is a big threat. In DST he's by far the most dangerous thing that comes for you, since Dragonfly no longer does. Compare him to the other season's threats.
