YES! That's exactly how I wanted it to be!

Edit: Checked the new nutrient values in-game, not happy about manure only giving 1 manure point. Even if manure will stay at 1 point, I would really appreciate having a better way of getting renewable bone shards for buckets of poop (which give 2 manure points). Dying on purpose for one bucket just doesn't feel right. Catching a big fish and letting it spoil for a 50% chance of 1 bone shard is even worse and slower than dying. You get 2 bone shards from hammering a spoiled fish in Shipwrecked, so why should the drop be so much worse in DST?

I mean, of course bone shard could be more reliable and 1 or 2 per spoiled fish would be ideal, but the cost-result balance right now doesn't feel that bad looking at the numbers.

You get 25 (rounded up) dragon fruits / peppers out of 9 giant crops fertilized with 1.8 bucket o'poop (18 use) That is 3.6 bone shard and 5.4 manure (I don't even consider the wood price).

25 Onion / pomegranate needs 1.8 super growth formula (9 use), pretty much a no-cost one.

25 garlic / durian needs 12 compost so 24 rot / grass.

Clearly the manure consuming type is the the highest price, but it's still ok for how good the result is. Though a 100% on the shard to only need 3.6 fish wouldn't hurt.

Edit: 36 manure out of a stack of lightbulb to grow 25 dragonfruit without any need for boneshard doesn't seem that bad either. Convert 1.44 lightbulb into 1 dragonfruit doesn't seem horrible to me, even pretty good considering how fast a werepig and a farm do their work.

50% chance

Fish are easy to get in ponds and you can use toad to spoil it faster

ruins rushing isnt really my style, i mean i can and have, but it shouldn’t be necessary, and the few times i have rushed ruins in lights out was for a mooncaller staff for a permanent lit base for revival reasons. (I later used fireflies around a chest and meat effigy)
Secondly theres still the -minor- issue of some characters kinda relying on farming, i like wurt and i guess i can ruins rush with blue mushrooms so i can have a health item that doesnt drain my sanity or require it to be autumn for birchnut seeds, but if i have to ruins rush every time i play wurt or warly just to have a functional farming experience. I probably wont bother playing them at all! because at least before i could use manure to grow SOME crops anyway and use rng to get some valuable ones.
Finally, its much harder to farm in lights out even if the crops grow because you can only get seeds from tumbleweeds or the merm king and theres no birds meaning i hope you got enough of x crop to make them big and are keeping them nice and fertilized otherwise you are probably gonna run out of seeds. Oh yeah all in a world where you’re in a constant state of trying to have some lighting, which prevents you from sitting at base more or less completely. in other words it was ******* hard (and i was fine with it) before they fixed it so why should it require an ancient craft just to start the tedius process of trying to farm in a lights out world

You wanted the challenge of playing lights out :P

Fish from ponds give spoiled fish morsels instead of spoiled fish, which only give bone shards 25% of the time. You need to let a LARGE fish spoil for the 50% chance of a bone shard. That's why I think it should be 2 or 1 bone shards each.

I love the new fertilizer values. Having more sources of formula and compost is great and the more expensive fertilizers are now one heck of a bargain. Monoculture is finally a viable approach, yet significantly worse than nutrient cycling, so both tactics now have their pros and cons.

Regarding the Bucket o Poop and its bone shard scarcity issue, I do kinda wish it was recycleable like Formula Starter is. I mean, it's pretty strange that the bucket evaporates when emptied. :P It would make quite a lot of sense imo if it were refuelable with manure and didn't break when it reached 0 durability (wiki says there's already art for an empty bucket).

At the same time, scarcity of bone shards aside, Bucket o Poop is an amazing bargain, since it packs almost 7 times as many nutrients as the 3 manure used to craft it. So I can see how making it refuelable could be too strong.

so you made it so that you use another hoe after one breaks but for spears or other weapons you still have to click on them to equip them after one break? well why not make that too if your spear breaks or what ever weapon and you have another one of them in your inventory you auto equip that

Everything is a weapon but not everything is a tool

I keep crashing putting rot on soil when it has no nutrients. Turned off all client mods too. Any have same issue?

My game just crashed when I tried to put gloomer's goop on the soil... Just not sure if it's any server mod that I use, not that I use that many.

Would it be cool if there was a mini QoL feature implemented so that you can dig up tilled mounds? The mounds created by the rig jig thing or from mistakes can get in the way sometimes, and the only way to remove them that I know of besides tilling next to them is by planting a seed and digging it up. I think it would really help with organizing since Wormwood doesn't need a hoe to plant seeds on the farm plots so the mounds from my experience are just an obstacle.

This is great! The fertilizers can now be reliably used for growing crops with no stress  pretty effectively. That said, its interesting that Rot and Rotten egg were moved to Compost and Spoiled Fish and Spoiled Fish Morsel were moved to Growth Formula. Thus, this only leaves Glommer's Goop and Compost Wrap as fixers of all nutrients, with the latter being the king of compost. That said, As some others pointed out, I wish Manure family had a stronger member, particularly I don't see why Guano wouldn't fix three point of manure rather than 2. As far as I'm aware it can only be obtained from Batilisks and Caged birds by feeding them seeds, neither of which are very reliable to produce en masse. As such I think this'd be a valuable reward for collecting Guano. Bucket of poop would still retain its comparative power against Guano since it can be used 10 times. You end up with a Quantity vs Quality question, which would help distinguish between two out of three members of the fertilizer family.

Past that, I'd like to ask the mechanism of how each crop consumes the nutrients now. Is it gradual? Is it still at each stage with the total consumption divided into each stage? Nevertheless my wormwood is so happy making so many pumpkin friends.

I believe the consumption is per stage - each plant has an amount it consumes every time it progresses a stage (seed -> sprout -> small -> medium -> grown). Each arrow in the plant section indicates 2 points of consumption/restoration. So pumpkins take 4 points of growth formula every time they progress a stage (2 arrows) and restore 2 points of the other two (one arrow). On the other hand, every arrow in the fertilizer section stands for 8 points. Super Growth Formula gives 32 points per use, enough to grow 2 pumpkins per use and 10 pumpkins total (but mind the nutrient cap!)

The arrows in the plant section and the fertilizer section align so that if a plant has an arrow of consumption, a fertilizer with the same number of arrows will be able to fully grow that plant. For example, one use of a bucket o' poop is enough to grow one potato, since they both have 2 arrows in their registry entries.

Not having nutrients available for a plant when it progresses a stage gives it a stress point (other factors give stress points too), and with 2 stress points the plant won't grow giant.

So now getting 5.4 manure and fishing 3.6 large fish let to rot will produce enough bucket of poop to get 25 pepper / dragon fruit through giant crop growing without crop mixing. Fishing 7.2 pond fish instead might be more efficient in the end.

Seems like a very strong trade to me, good job klei.
