wormwood is the farm character who gains no real benefit from farming

Recommended Posts

i had this problem before with wormwood and now that farming is getting overhauled it feels even more ridiculous because he's getting more abilities related to farming because of it

wormwood doesn't gain health from eating foods, like pomegranates, toma root and dragonpie. but as far as i'm aware the main benefit to farming for a character that isn't warly is that you get access to those new healing items. warly can make spices, wolfgang can maybe benefit from having more food, but otherwise there are no unique benefits to farming besides the special healing food

so it doesn't make any sense that wormwood is encouraged to be a farmer, but uniquely gains no actual benefits from it besides having more fodder to make generic crock pot meals. that doesn't feel very rewarding, it's a gimmick that essentially cancels itself out. yeah wormwood can grow healing food for other survivors but having an ability that you can't use on yourself isn't very fun; even from the standpoint of a support character. so by definition he's encouraged to do something that is explicitly less interesting and rewarding to himself?

i kind of wish it was the opposite; wormwood gains healing from eating fruits and vegetables but not from meats and healing salves or poultice. but so that they aren't completely useless maybe healing salves and poultice could have a different effect on him

His benefit, playing alone, always has been no needing crockpot dishes to fill his stomach (in hamlet he was alone)

Playing with more people the benefith come from helping people getting food for free

in a game where getting food is so easy, getting food slightly easier is a pretty boring ability

and it still doesn't change the fact that it's a gimmick that contradicts itself

I know but isnt that bad

Instead of wasting time making meatballs he can just carry a stack of corn

I understand that it feels like a wasted perk for himself

under that logic wickerbottom is boring

under that logic webber is boring

under that logic wendy is boring

except wickerbottom's books , webber's spiders , and wendy's sister all do more things than generate food . . so that comparison makes no sense

thats you're opinion

a lot of people find webber really fun and a lot of people find wendy a lot of fun

what do webbers spiders do?kill deerclops or bearger?is that it?

and i was mainly talking about wickers applied horticulture book

and yeah abigail does have other uses but most people use her to get food(example killing spiders, killing frogs, killing bunny men and pigmen, etc)

Was a joke, i enjoy how these characters changes the gameplay experience

On topic: wormwood perk is so well for beefalo taming and riding a beefalo is good for wormwoods downside

well yeah is you deliberately ignore all the other aspects of the books, spiders and abigail then your comparison becomes vaguely relevant

spiders have more than one aspect i thought they were just used to die and get food or die while trying to kill a boss

and while abigail does have some other use case again its mostly killing enemies for food

other than that she is sometimes useful against some bosses and can clear hound waves

now can we get back on topic

i don't have wormwood so ill leave other people to give their opinions

I generally find wormwood to be fine, but know it's frustrating he benefits the least from his own farm (other than wigfrid). If klei wanted to change it so wormwood gets benefit from it, maybe wormwood could get like 25% of the HP value of the food converted into bonus sanity. Then it would make sense for wormwood to eat some crockpot foods like dragonpie, surf n turf etc.

precisely! Wormwood and Wendy are arguably the survivors who benefit the most from beefalo domestication. In wendy's case i personally find it less interesting because she just becomes Wolfgang lol.

But Wormwood and domesticated beefalo form a perfect symbiosis. For me it has become an integral part of playing Wormwood, it is always my first priority when i start a solo world. All the excess hunger and health from crops take care of the beefalo's needs and the beefalo protects Wormwood's precious HP.

---

imo Wormwood has the most compelling downside of the entire cast and i dont think it should be messed with by allowing crops to heal him.

However i am very much hoping that this update will bring new veg/fruit dishes in the future or buff the old ones. So survivors other than Warly will have a greater use for farm crops. When i play Wormwood i always end up mainly living off of meaty stews (and pumpkins/corn/eggplant), i would love it if we got some high hunger veg/fruit dishes. Like a 150 hunger pumpkin dish :apple:

The way I see it, every character in DST (even Wes to some extent) are S tiers, but it differs to the eye of beholder.

Scott said that they are aware of Wormwood being nerfed indirectly and Wormwood buffed in the last update. I think they are going to buff him more.

Hope so, he could use it

A lot of characters are like this, though.

Wortox: AOE healing. Not as effective when alone.

Wickerbottom: End is Nigh book is useless without a WX.

Warly: Food buffs are more useful for fighters. If you can only play Warly or Wolfgang, why not just play the fighter?

I don't personally have a problem with Wormwood as he is, since I think his current perks make him a good farming character, but I don't agree with these examples at all.

Wortox can also teleport and eat his souls, which pretty much exclusively benefits him. The healing is also not bad alone, since healing food effects are halved.

The End is Nigh is only one of Wickerbottom's books. She can still farm birds with Birds of the World, make a panflute substitute with Sleepytime Stories, and create easy mob wars and loot with On Tentacles.

Only three of Warly's items are centered around fighting. He's also got Glowberry Mousse for hands-free light, Fish Cordon Bleu for hands-free rain protection, Hot Dragon Chili Salad and Asparagazpacho for temperature control, honey crystals for faster resource gathering (Woodie and Maxwell both do better than these but that doesn't make Warly useless) and a handful of good foods like Moqueca and gimmicks like the Grim Galette. He's one of my favorite characters to play.

May I add that Warly and Woodie have a very high synergies with one another. Warly can provide Woodie with spices for faster gathering as a Were-Beaver. Warly also can provide Woodie with damage resistance and extra damage buff as a Were-Moose for a boss fight as a tanker or as a better crowd controller againts foes like spiders, shadow splumonkeys and hounds.

Woodie Moose can also become tankier by getting healing buffs from Wortox and Wigfrid. With Jellybean as a side dish of course.

How does Wormwood benefit from taming exactly?

With a Beefalo to take hits for him, he doesn't have to invest as much in the healing he would otherwise get from eating food (even +1 and +3 health from food adds up over time). I use a Beefalo as Wormwood and Wendy really often because they both benefit really well from them.

Yeah, but the process to get one is such a massive pain, tho I suppose with Dragonfruits becoming a bit easier to grow, this could be negated. I've never found Beefalo taming to be much use, especially since they can just detame themselves.
