is Wendy a warrior character?

Recommended Posts

I’ve played every character in the game- Wendy is my favorite because of her quotes, and playstyle Abigail is essentially the “Second player” if you are playing completely Alone..

What I mean by that is.. if I play as Wigfrid and Craft 2 battle spears and 2 helmets and maybe a log suit I can tank massive hordes of spiders just as fast & as good as Abigail can. Wortox would also be a good secondary spider tanker due to the ability to perform a single button tap to heal yourself up- You’d just need to use more helmets & maybe a tentacle spike or two..

Abigail is essentially that “Wigfrid” Helping Wendy when there’s no other player around to help Wendy.

Outside of Spiders though (which can be tanked by anyone with the appropriate gear) Abigails TRUE Moment in the spotlight is against thousands of FROGS.. because unlike human players- Abigail doesn’t get constantly stun locked dropping inventory per frog lick.

Abigail is like a blender for small mobs like spiders. That's how I think of her anyway. Shes great for farming loads of small mobs for their resources or also just for managing hound attacks(it's nice to not have to sit at the tooth traps 99% of my time in my worlds)

I personally classify her as a combat character primarily because all of her kit seems to revolve almost exclusively on buffing Abigail for combat. I tend to separate each character into one of 3 categories: Utility, Nomadic/Self-Maintenance, and Combat.

How I determine each (in the spoiler below): TL;DR

Spoiler
  • Utility characters for me are ones whose role usually revolves around solving problems better than most other characters, with actions like cooking, harvesting, repairing, or creating; they may have abilities outside of these options such as combat prowess (Weremoose for example), but their general use comes from being well...useful. Examples include Woodie, Winona, and Wickerbottom.
  • Nomadic/Self-Maintenance characters to me are ones whose abilities serve themselves usually better (which in turn may help allies) and/or the ability to stay from base for extended periods of time. Examples in my opinion are Warly, Walter, and WX-78.
  • Combat characters in my opinion are ones whose general abilities and purpose comes from combat itself, be it in the kit they offer or the way they fight. Examples in my opinion are Wendy, Wigfrid, and Wolfgang.

Think with me, Wendy only have skills focused in pvp, Abigail, potions to better the Abigail, damage multiplicator when shes atack the same enemy than abigail  (is very easy because abigail do damage in area)

PvP means player versus player.

Wendy NO

Abigail YES

Wendy YES. Abigail buffs her to have almost as large a bonus as Wigfrid does, and if both of them are attacking the same target it's roughly 1.5x damage if you're using a fresh ham bat.

She's great at all combat, only beaten by Wolfgang for single target damage and is absolutely miles ahead of everyone else for AoE damage. Woodie comes in a very distant second for AoE damage.

She's combat-heavy and provides support via Sisturn (Sanity).

More so than combat though, she's a farmer primarily because that's what she does. She farms spiders, bees, frogs, monkeys and a ton of other little critters. If there is a spider infestation you'll be using spider silk for ashes and monster meat for rot before long. If there's a killer bee map you can burn the stingers for piles of ash and take 40-60 honey home per day of farming. You can clear out the flowers around base and plant a small flower bed and leave Abigail on aggressive mode to passively farm butterfly wings if you want to afk for a bit.

All that ash goes to the spider glands to turn them into better healing items. Makes Wormwoods very happy to have stacks of healing salves. The excessive stacks of monster meat can also go to feeding pigs to turn them to werepigs so you can farm them every 4 days for meat and butts.

The problem with Wendy is that if there are no close-by areas with tons of spiders/bees then she feels lackluster. If there are bees and spiders nearby, the game feels too easy on day 1.

Of course, players who are good at setting up massive bunny farms early will not find Wendy's 'pros' appealing.
