How is not being able to put point into the non glowing ones confusing?

With Winona’s skill Tree the little “Wires” connecting everything seems like you’ll need to unlock the first one on the wire before you can unlock the next one, this is how Wilson/Wolfgang’s Skill Tree Worked, Winona’s however- Does not.

There are very tiny and easy to miss locks that only once scrolled Over, tells you “requires x amount of lower shelf perks to unlock”

Usually if I would have attempted to unlock a perk on a “higher shelf” it would’ve told me it requires this skill, that skill & this skill to unlock- or when I tried to Unlock “Rose Tinted Glasses” it would’ve highlighted and auto-scrolled me to the tiny easy to miss “Lock” that informs me I need enough lower tier shelf perks first.

Because that’s not mentioned in the description when attempting to unlock it.

I could be the only one who feels this way but does anyone else who plays DST (particularly using an Xbox Controller using the Analog Sticks/D-pad for movement) find the Skill Trees to be a bit confusing and don’t actually give enough detail to the player on how to unlock the skills they want?

I’m currently looking at Winona’s skill tree and whoa man is it a absolute mess or what.

First of all, I can’t seem to unlock any of her Non-Catapult related gadgets (not including spotlights) without first buying pure brillance or pure horror generator upgrades?

Darn it I just want funky little robot Roomba, and the ability to create vine bridges.

This is the point where I begin to realize that despite what people may think, Skill trees are actually complicated and perhaps even bad for the game altogether.

I had to explain to my friend in detail that they’re not really playing “As Willow” until they invest in her fire based skill tree perks.

And I simply miss the days where the game didn’t quite feel this bloated or confusing.

Things like Redeployable Catapults should’ve been Base character kit for Winona, it’s literally one of the first required skills you’ll have to obtain.

But I can’t figure out where or how to invest my skill points, because UNLIKE other games that have skill point driven systems like this, DST does not provide the player with a visual demo video of what the skill their unlocking even does.

The description alone doesn’t help..

This needs to be more like Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, or DI 2, where it gives visual demonstrations of what your unlocking, what your investing that skill point into, what it does… and how to use it.

And sure I can look all of that up in a YouTube video, or Twitch stream, but by doing that I spend less time playing the game and more time with the game paused trying to figure out WTF I’m even investing points into.

#RantOver.

your post reminds me why I actually still hope Maxwell will never got a skill tree or will be the last one to get one. I can't stand having to adapt to a completely different play style. [seriously when it comes to my taste in gaming, Wilson's skill tree is actually the "best" because it doesn't require me to struggle with a complicated new system, as Wilson's skilltree is self-explaning]

Why does Wurt hate flowers? Seriously I was surprised when I just saw her quotes for every flower type in the wiki's flower page. I mean I understand everyone else's quotes for flowers but I don't understand Wurt ones at all. I thought as a plant eating character she would think positive of them.

Based on her quotes for lunar mutations and herself the values of  beauty seem to be reversed for merms which ironically also means survivors likely look quite ugly to her.

So the pretty niece from the Munsters? I get it.. not sure if people who have never watched the Munsters will get it though.

Related question: I wonder if Flowers taste particularly awful to Wurt too?

ok this explains most, though I still wonder why she says "good" when watching a withered flower as this has nothing to do with beauty and more sounds as if she is happy the potential food died

Ty! But I meant as in like, the whole skilltree.

Like, is this a good build, or should I go for different skills? (the skills in red are the skills I'll choose)

Yea it looks good except the shadow affinity antisynergises with the armour perk since you want your merms to die to maxmize their utility

What is “Scrap” Used for? And Why does Winona’s Skill Tree need so much of it??? None of her Kit even NEEDS Scrap, I don’t understand…

With Willow, you can use Embers to Refill your Lighter, and they activate her powers.

With Wendy you may get an over abundance in Mourning Glories, but they can be used to craft Ecthoherbology Elixers.

With Winona.. you need scrap long enough to build Winbot then it’s just a useless extra resource you’ll have an over-abundance of.

It isn’t even used to Refuel the stupid Hat she wears to find the Scrap containing Cache boxes..

Seriously Someone please help… :(

It would be cool if Catapults instead of being completely destroyed instead had a broken down animation (like broken clockwork mobs) and could be repaired using all that scrap she has an over abundance of now…

But I’m personally finding it to be useless inventory clutter on a character who has no use for it.

No wonder so many people are having their games lag so much more with Winona now.

@JoeW @JanH @nome

(Sorry for the pings guys I’d just really like to know why Winona’s skill tree gives her “scrap” cache boxes as a common resource if they don’t have any common daily use for her?)

Scarp is used for the warbis gear, scrap walls, Elastispacer, and Winbot

Okay.. but why is it dropped as often for Winona players as Mourning Glories are for Wendy players?

With Mourning Glories they have a constant use and feed directly into the characters kit.

For Winona.. Scrap becomes a resource that just uselessly piles up with no use for it to the actual character herself besides a one time craft of Winbot?

......considering how dark Don't Starve can be, would anyone be surprised if I said I have a terrible / sad / bitter headcanon background story for the pipspooks? I mean considering they seem to resemble literally babies. [compared to how Abigail looks older although being a child too]

I mean I totally celebrated Maxwell's quotes for them after all. xP I probably just didn't expect the cute little merm to be such a villain towards flowers x)

I keep reading that Wilson was the last one to be brought to the constant, but didn't Walter get there by finding Wilson's abandoned house and reactivating the Maxwell door? [or did I missunderstand something] Or do the people mean Wilson was brought there last in the sense of only meaning the singleplayer game?

-----------------------------------------------------------

So those are the most disgusting prefabs that can be picked up in DST that I could find. Can someone tell me some more I should add to the "Character is too disgusted to be able to pick those items up unless someone else hands them over to him" list? I feel like the list is still too small to make singleplayer DST difficult enough / force the usage of Shadow Servant enough. I really hope someone can tell me some more stuff that could still be added without it being illogical.

Wilson was the last one to enter the constant before DST afaik. Walter got there at some point after Charlie got to the throne, through a voxola radio that was meant for Woodie, not Wilson.

Wortox, Wurt and Wormwood were probably there since the beginning, just not with the other survivors until the plot needed it. In Wortox's short we see Wilson and Wes, though not together. However, Wes is not imprisoned, so after DS.

As for Wurt, we can see Wickerbottom, Webber and Wendy together on her trailer, so again, after DS, but we don't really know when.

In Wormwood's case I don't know, since he's originally from Hamlet and his short doesn't give us much information about that.

Wanda is a mistery, cause of time travel and stuff, her short shows different events from the RoT arc though, so probably after that.
She also has a description for the champion ornaments from Winter Feast (the forge ornaments): "I must have missed ths one", probably meaning that she got there after A new Reign concluded with AFW's death.

oh, yeah so it is canon, at least if you take the blurbs on the loading screen as canon, that the survivors are in multiple dimensions at the same time and not all the survivors are in each version (and it is kinda sort of expressed that they arent arriving in order of their disappearance from the real world) so wilson being "last" to arrive isnt really much of a stretch, at the very least if you take the original game as cannon the most common timeline has wilson taking the thrown right before charlie did so it would not be out of order to assume in the timeline where ds becomes dst he'd be let free after all the others have already moved into this new epoch and the new ruler of the constant christens herself as such

Seems like my tired brain has confused Walter's story with someone else or confused it with some dream I had. I really thought I could remember the cabin being Wilson's....yes I must have definitely been dreaming that. Woodie having a lone cabin in the woods makes much more sense after all.

Anyway I didn't mention the "creature" survivors because I was just thinking of the people from the human world.

Soooo.......after all that means WANDA is now probably the last one, or isn't she? Or is it still Walter then?

Just now, NPCMaxwell said:

We don't exactly know when they arrived in the constant, so I don't think it's possible to tell. Specially since Wanda has appeared in only one (non-canon?) short since her release.

Thanks for this explanation, too. Though I still remember this "comic page" [Or was it something else?] of Wilson and Maxwell building a portal together. I also remember back then DST didn't use the "Charlie theme" yet. So honestly I was quite surprised when I came back a bit later and found her to have freed Wilson from the chair, making me a little confused what happened to the Wilson and Maxwell built the first multiplayer portal thing that Charlie replaced with her florid poster portal instead. But then, the lore of DST has always been a little weird to me, compared to the first DS part / ROG.

wilson seems to have been playing around in the house that wx and wagstaff were using

ALSO INTERESTING!!! I thought it was his own house. [I also thought that WX and Wagstaff's house was in a different environment....but that may be because of the more colourful design the world seen in the DST area videos use so it was hard for me to recognize them as the same places.]

That's true, which makes me rather sad, that Wanda's story in the lore / inside the game is almost unexisting until now.

oh yeah! the jury-rigged portal, right? from the beta ^^

also yes and no? i dont think they ever specified it was wilson's house just that he was living there for a stint and it had some of wagstaff's stuff(like his goggles) in it as well as a skeleton that could possibly have been wx if you believe wx is only the consciousness of the partner and lacks the body itself(something i do especially since the corpse was surrounded by books and papers)

actually i refound the orignal video and in the that it is implied it is wilson's house so i thnk the newest video of him in that house is showing how he got to the house to begin with(inheritance?)

I must watch this later! I adore the skeleton former-human-WX theory (I seriously thought it was a normal scientific skeleton you find in schools for demonstration. I mean we had one of those guys too and treated him like some friend so I thought the skelly was literally Wilson's "friend" (as in imaginary companion that he would discuss his scientific notes with).

Silly question, but does anyone else here, since DST started the ghost mechanic, set their characters on fire / kill them on purpose and just for fun to see them floating around as silly looking ghosts? Or is it just me? (I am a DST single player so I suppose this can be excused on your own servers). Also I do NOT mean grieving but torturing your OWN character and then make sure to revive as soon as possible to not drain other people's sanity with your spooky ghostiness to much.

So I finally found the time to watch this short, which seems a real Eyeopener. [I wonder why I always keep missing those videos? Well I didn't know most of Klei's videos until recently but this one counts among my favourite ones now] But now my mind is going to suffer from the obsessive idea of Wilson and Wagstaff being somehow [very distant] relatives again. [as you also said Wilson might have got the house by heritage].
