Gabu Gabu
Ever since I started playing in early March a good chunk of my notebooks have been filled with DS drawings. I'm figuring out how I want to portray these characters so I've haven't drawn anything too fancy, just doodles. Here are a bunch of Wendy's from around the time of her update. And then there is a random WX in the corner. Edited July 23, 2020 by Gabu Gabu words
Gabu Gabu
Wendy is the character I've drawn the most as she's one of my favorites and I have a good grasp on how I wanted to portray her. Part of Wendy's appeal for me is that she is a pretty normal looking cute girl that says very concerning things and has an overall depressing worldview. I'm just a sucker for contrast, especially if it's jarring. So I gave her these big eyes with little lashes but they have bags underneath. That combined with the flushed nose and ears is supposed to give the impression she's just sad and tired 24/7, poor girl needs a break. I tried to make her look like she came from a Laika film such as Coraline or Paranormam as I feel the tone of those movies fits Wendy and DS. Hence why she has the large head with big ears on top of a twiggy body like the Cora and Norman. Her depiction in official works can't seem to decide if she wears a long sleeve shirt or short puffy sleeve one. I prefer the longer sleeves so that's what I used to draw as seen in the earlier pictures above. But, the short depicts both her and Abigail with the same short sleeve shirt. I like how they have the same shirt and color scheme but different pants and overall style to reflect they are similar but different. So the short sleeves stay as Abigail looks better in that and of course Wendy's dead sister is going to play into how I depict her. If there is something I should work on it's that her hair flower doesn't look dead enough. Also, I'm having trouble interpreting her flower hair ties? Is that what that those are? I don't know how do some of you interpret that
Blue Moth
Welcome to the forums! I love your art style and I hope to see more from you in the future. although, I'd recommend getting an actual sketchbook. the lines from the notebook are kind of distracting. Other than that It looks fantastic!
Gabu Gabu
Thank you! I have been drawing in an actual sketchbook now that there is no reason to use something cheaper lighter weight for travel but for the stuff i've already drawn in the notebook I'll look into something like editing the contrast between the lines and the drawing so that it's less distracting.
wigfrids hat
good luck! when i was a lad i would use lined paper for my art and removing the lines was such a hassle x___x
Gabu Gabu
Oy you weren't kidding! The blue lines show up as greyish in photoshop so I couldn't just tell it to remove all cyan as it didn't recognize any. Under a purely white light the lines came out a little bluer so I could tone them down somewhat. I'm going to try out a better camera and see if that produces any difference. Otherwise here is Roseate Wendy, I adore this set and will draw more of it.
wigfrids hat
yeah, in the end i spent three years getting really good at manually erasing the lines one-by-one then realized paying 4 times as much for lineless medium-weight paper was much more preferable(and if you count up your labor by wage cost it is more economical too). if the price is beyond you though printer paper and a cheap presentation folder work too just make sure to use a bit of string to keep the top closed^^
Gabu Gabu
Nah money isn't an issue right now, I just wanted to show off some older artwork. I am drawing in an actual sketchbook so more stuff like this will pop up: ...after I get over this Guilty Gear craze. willow is surrounded by anime someone help her
Gabu Gabu
I was going to post some Willows but I had a weird dream last night that resulted in these two: So in my dream there was a Return of Them animated trailer where the focus of the update was boat combat, and in it were two girl scouts. The one with pigtails I'm going to call Wynter because most girl names that start with W sound like preexisting characters and the name Wednesday is going to the goth with braids. Wynter was just hanging with Walter as if she was already a playable character and Wednesday was advertised as a new character with witchy book powers. I don't care for girl scouts and I don't care for DST's boats, I guess I was just thinking about Walter and the upcoming update before I slept? Even though they are derivative of other characters I think it's neat that I was able to remember them after waking up, plus they have cute hair cuts. I'm not big on OC's but I might flesh them out in the future, for example I play up Wednesday's witch stuff or give them actual names. I was going to name Wednesday Waverly but Klei already made that joke with an unused witch character Edited June 25, 2020 by Gabu Gabu Spelling

wigfrids hat
if you thought to expand on them the scout could be working on her birdcalling badge and be able to command pengulls and small(ish tall)birds?
Gabu Gabu
Expressions are something I take pride in so I'm glad you like them! As for the characters I'm thinking of moving them away from the scout theme and making them more unique. However, the bird taming reminded me that I have been thinking of a moveset involving taming various mobs based on the unused Winnie. A ton of design elements from her have been put into other characters: Wigfrid stole her face, Wilba her dress, Winona her name debatably, and Walter with the nomad-ish gameplay. I did come up with a redesign of Winnie I might post later but she is still too similar to what we already have. I've been thinking it's probably best if I just made an entirely new character as to better flex my creativity and Wynter can fit that. I thought her pig tails looked like ears so you have the animal theme there, and the rest of her design is flexible as she was accidentally created in my subconscious. I'll expand on gameplay and character design later, but for now I got some OC concept art.

Gabu Gabu
Willow time! Here are the first two Willows I drew, I got a grasp on her pretty quickly. Then by the third one I was like OH THAT'S WILLOW I'm having trouble understanding why some characters click for me while others don't. I adore Wilson and yet while my drawings of him never look bad I can't ever replicate what I'm picturing in my head, which is really frustrating. Willow I think came so easily because she already looks a lot like other characters I draw. Mostly women in their 20's. She is fairly conventional looking so over time I exaggerated her long face and nose. I drew her annoyed once and the half-shut eyelids have stayed ever since. I think this gives of the vibe that she doesn't really care what you have to say but is also just tired of everything. Fitting as she can be mean-spirited but has her own problems shes dealing with. The downward lashes are a design element that I love and have to force myself to not slap on every character I draw, Willow gets em because she has similar ones in her rework trailer. This was just me wondering what she would look like with her hair down. Attempt at a different artstyle, I learned to simplify her bangs so that they would be easier to draw. The most recent Willow doodle would be the one surrounded by GG I posted earlier, which I think is the best one I've drawn yet. Bonus! Uh I don't remember why I drew chibified Willow and Charlie interacting, but it's cute.
wigfrids hat
that makes sense, i cannot seem to make wilson either(though i am pretty bad at all of the ladies so i suppose it is more i am bad in general, hahaha) i think the lash looks fine, i could totally see all of them with it, well, maybe barring wx who hasn't any eyes
Gabu Gabu
I know you literally said WX can't have lashes because they have no eyes and you're right But once the idea was planted I had to draw it 6 1

Gabu Gabu
Woodie Time! feat. Lucy I was a bit iffy on how I wanted to go about Woodie. My first couple drawings I made him look a little unhinged, but I eventually leaned into a softer more approachable look as I think the more normal looking he is the funnier the werebeaver transformation is. Now he just looks like a cool uncle. Love the victorian skins. Accidentally drew in not-pencil-friendly-book with these two so the contrast had to be upped like 60 points just to be readable. This was drawn in my current sketchbook. Don't really have much else to say about Woodie and Lucy's design is just an axe. Might post some Walani or Wickerbottom tomorrow, we'll see.

Gabu Gabu
Woodie time is over, it's Walani time now. I didn't realize that all these all have her hands on her hips until after I took pictures lol I haven't even touched the shipwreck dlc yet since I'm still fairly new to single player and I spend most of my time playing dst with my friends. However, what I have seen of Walani I really like. Hope y'all have a good day.
