Yeah sorry about that, but Don’t Starve Togethers Achievements can also be used as a way of helping players do something that unless they go on Wikipedia and look up.. they otherwise would’ve never known. Did you know that all those cool chairs people put in their bases for the longest time I thought was either Mods or Hacks? But no.. apparently if you throw a very specific amount of ingredients into a very specific location you can get chair blueprints. who knew?! Am I right? Spoiler They can make an achievement like learning forbidden Knowledge from the Ancients- Place X items into Ancient Chest, obtain a blueprint and then craft a Chair! Misa22
Why does everybody hate the idea of Wheeler getting ported to DST because she has a ranged weapon but the moment this guy was announced everybody was clapping with their buttcheeks and saying "wahoo ranged combat"? I don't get it. Anyhow... I have always liked ranged stuff in games. Sadly DS is kinda weak in that aspect (too much time to farm for ranged weapons then you blow them up in one go). I hope this guy has something useful for that style of gameplay. About the nomadic thing you guys say, I have always felt Wortox fills that role perfectly, he has food/healing everywhere, he doesn't need to cook or anything. Or at least i see him that way. I want to see the extra skins for this guy, though! reverentsatyr
while reading through the thread, I saw some discussion about boy scouts, so I'll explain a little about them(I'm an Eagle Scout), so that everyone might get a better idea of what they think Walter will do in-game. Yes, boy scouts(when working towards specific badges) are trained to survive in a situation where you start out with pretty much nothing, even though that would defeat the purpose of the motto: be prepared. But that training teaches them to make tools, fire, shelter, food, etc. So it wouldn't really make sense if Walter refused to make/use tools. It sounds tedious to never allow him to do so. In fact, maybe Walter will start off with a pocket knife. It could act as stuff like a compass, a low-tier fighting weapon, maybe even a pickaxe, stuff like that. I was taught by one of my Scout Masters to always keep certain small tools in my pocket during backpacking trips, in case I got separated from my backpack in an emergency. On the topic of the merit badge discussion, I think it could be interesting. Badges wouldn't just be some sort of achievement hunt, but the badges could also give Walter buffs because a badge would prove that he became experienced in whatever activities it took to get that badge. For example, Walter would have to catch a certain number of fish to get his fishing badge, and once he gets that badge, then the maximum amount of time for a fish to be caught would be decreased. We are assuming it’s a slingshot in his back pocket, but how does anyone outside of Klei know for a fact that’s what that is? Unless there’s some datamined files I have not seen yet. That could be anything! Like the Venom Tanks that pump through Banes Back, it certainly LOOKS like a Slingshot.. but my point is that at first glance- looks can be deceiving. Personally I would’ve rather had Wheeler added to the game but ehh who knows, maybe they’ll both be part of it someday? I want to see the extra skins for this guy, though! Very few don't want Wheeler because of her ranged weapon alone. It is mostly the combination of permanent extra speed (and how easy it is to circumvent losing speed with a backpack) and a pretty good ranged weapon that does not break and uses stingers (and other useless junk) for damage. I am all for it if she is toned a bit down (she cannot cheat her downside with a backpack), and her weapon breaks. But the biggest perk of Wheeler is her speed that makes fights so much easier and gives her more freedom to do more stuff in less time. I do agree ranged weapons should be more accessible though. Dr. Safety
On 6/3/2020 at 12:09 PM, Mike23Ua said: You guys think I’m joking but do you seriously realize how different and unique of a character Walter would be if he could not craft or use items like the Shovel or the Pitchfork? Anytime someone tried to build and pass one to him he would have a refusal animation similar to Warly trying to eat anything that’s not specially cooked or Wigfrid when you try to cram berries in her mouth. (Pun intended) He could have a quote like “I can’t use these tools! I’m trying to earn my Wilderness Survival Badge!!” Officially making Walter the only character in the entire game who has to walk around the wilderness surviving IN the Wilderness instead of digging up everything & bringing the wilderness to his base. I mean my knowledge of actual boy scouts is pretty limited so someone correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t they supposed to be trained in the art of surviving in the woods with the barest minimal of supplies? While I think that downside would be both easy to negate with a team, or be a crippling time waster in solo play, (and just generally unfun and would ruin the character) I do have some Eagle Scout knowledge that could provide some reasoning for it to be in game. Yes, scouting is learning to survive in the wild with the bare minimum, but we did have a toolbox with a shovel and a handsaw and some other tools. However we would rarely use them for things that aren’t community projects and that’s because of one word: Preservation. We had a code to make the campsite look exactly the same when we entered and when we left. We were only allowed to use wood for fire that has already fallen from a tree (couldn’t chop), we could only make fires in one place in the campsite, and we DEFINITELY couldn’t dig up plants. Of course these were guidelines when camping with no threat of dying. If it came to it and we somehow got stranded, we would act accordingly. Actually it’s kinda funny but the Wilderness Survival merit badge basically says forget everything about preservation, your objective is to survive Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/118585-walter-discussion/page/3/#findComment-1340113 Share on other sites
ArubaroBeefalo
he can have less tools durability drain or new tools to get more resources like shears in hamlet for tall grass or he could start with survival knive that allows him to get grass and twigs quickly with no animation like how we pick carrots Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/118585-walter-discussion/page/3/#findComment-1340119 Share on other sites

This means that Mays Update has been pushed into June, which ALSO Means that whatever content they had planned for June May also possibly be released right alongside Mays Delayed update. We don’t know the full extent of Klei’s Update schedule, we do not know if May was meant as the Release of Walter and June was going to be ROT Update 5, the Next Character Rework or something else entirely... What we DO Know is that they’ve had a little more time to work on the next batch of content, And Whatever they had to delay into June.. could release alongside whatever they already had scheduled for June. OR it could mean that June’s update has Become July’s update. No one knows the answer to this except Klei developers.
