New Character, New Random Events (Rook's Events and Opportunities List)

Recommended Posts

I figured I'd update the opening paragraph of the main post considering Rook's campaign is fully completed storywise. This post was originally done so that people would have a reference to any events and opportunities that were more RNG or didnt have their outcomes immediately presented to them, but then I decided to simply list everything here. Of course, just because Rook's story is finished, that doesn't mean new events won't be added in the future, so I intend to update this whenever needed. Hopefully once Griftlands is fully released and a wiki is made of it, this thread will provide some help to those wiki editors as well, though just looking at the code would probably be more useful. As always, be sure to comment if there's any options in this list that need correcting. Do note for anyone looking into this thread that only Random Events and Opportunities are listed here. Any events that are tied to quests will not be listed.

Old Opening: So the new character, Rook, is very enjoyable so far, even with his buggy release and limited days. I figure as a community we should get to work consolidating all the info for the random events and opportunities available so far in the new campaign. Please be aware that, especially in the early days of Rook's release, this thread will be filled with spoilers aplenty. Ill try to update this main post as new info is collected, especially since my own initial contribution will be very limited. Ill also try to update in regards to any changes listed in the patch notes, since Im sure there's plenty of unintended effects for many of these events/opportunities. Currently will only list the effects of actions that Im aware of/remember. Be aware that Events occur when you're in the middle of travel, while Opportunities are the temporary orange blips that pop up in the map between missions.

Events:

Spoiler
  • Rook is bit by an unknown bug. First event of Rook's campaign.
  1. Gain 5 resolve and a combat and a negotiation parasite card.

  7. Having a pet while choosing the option to get the Enforcer as a pet results in the Enforcer saying ERROR and not following.

  • Finding a Rise member being attacked by wildlife

  1. Opportunity to sell one of your items or pet for decent cash (I was only able to sell one thing, dont know if that's intended)

When drawn, discard a random card. Destroy). Continuing to follow them will result in combat with wild animals or Boggers. The Boggers fight will be isolated.
  2. Choosing to not follow them from the start results in them disliking you
  3. At the end of the event, you're told they want to sacrifice you in order to unlock the secrets of the Bog. You can negotiate with them to tell them they're insane and you both go off on your merry ways
  4. Choosing to fight them instead will result in an isolated fight. You gain 2 Bog Secrets afterwards
  5. If you choose to abandon them after agreeing to work with them at any point, they will hate you.
  6. An alternate ending can occur where they go crazy thinking they've found riches instead of wanting to kill you. You can negotiate for real riches, or leave them alone causing them to love you.

  • A Bogger named Grimdellia will ask you if you've been to the "Deep Bog". This event cannot occur if you've gained a Bog Secrets card through any means prior to the event.

For the damaged enforcer, you need to hit the “previous” (PRV) or “next” (NXT) options until you are on the “follow” option (the options appear in hexadecimal), and only then hitting “select” (SEL). The other ones (“attack”, “beacon”, “scrap”, “explode”) might not result in a positive outcome for you.

There was also another event where you could eat berries, I think red, rotten, and one more option. You can eat all three if you want. One will take some hp away, another will give some hp back, the last will increase your max hp but take some hp away.

Oh interesting, didnt realize the effect of the option appeared in the dialogue as hexadecimal (I know jack squat about it). Looks like I supremely lucked out that time. Ill need to get the text for the options as well for this event, so Ill just strike through on that one until then.

You dont need to remember every outcome, but if you or someone else could come back with the specific effect of the outcome that'd be great. Wont add to the main post until atleast one outcome is known.

  • Random Opportunity: A certain Jakes asks you to travel with her into the Deep Bog for her research
  1. Choosing to follow her into the Deep Bog will initially give you a random negative status card. Continuing to follow her will result in combat with wild animals.
  2. At the end of the event, you're told she wants to sacrifice you in order to unlock the secrets of the Bog. You can negotiate with her to tell her she's insane and you both go off on your merry ways
  3. Choosing to fight her instead will result in an isolated fight. Cant remember if she's able to surrender, but if you kill her, you get two Bog Secrets cards
  4. If at any point you abandon her prior to the end of the event, she will have a diminished opinion of you. Dont know whether its dislike or hatred.

For this event, there's an alternative ending when they are not crazy enough to want to kill you. They say something about the riches of the bog. You can demand real "riches" or just let them be, which results in them loving you.

Has someone succeeded in upgrading the Deep Bog card before the second event? I didn't know it'll be so quick (considering there's only two days I should have realized earlier), and it only counts in-battle exp. btw it gives you a card that doubles Panic threshold on the enemy.

On Enforcer event:

I selected FOLLOW while having a pet and it just says error. Might be random or related.

I was one exp away from upgrading it, decided I wanted to go to the black market first, and then on the way to a guaranteed combat I had the second event happen midway.

You can only have 1 pet at a time, so that's why. Ill add it to the main post for clarity.

Coin Toss guy is hilarious in Rook's route. You can get his Weighted Coin which is 90% Heads but no other abilities.

Can you elaborate on this one? Was it a random event or opportunity, and what choice did you pick to get it?

It's an opportunity. You meet good ole' Krog. You can bet 10 shills to play the coin toss game. Rook notices that the coin is weighted towards Heads. If you guess Heads (and it does flip Heads?), Rook shows off his coin-flipping skills. Rook asks you to not rat him out. You then have a few options:

- Switch your coin for his (90% chance to land on Heads, but no effect on a gamble either way)

- Pay 50 shills to get him to love you (great deal btw)

- Let him go to make him like you

- Tell him off (???)

Random event: Coming across a plant you recognized from a book, but don't know which part is edible.

Leaves: +5 Resolve, Horrible Rash (1 cost Negotiation Status card. When drawn get 1 Flustered. Expend.)

Berries:  +5 HP, Horrible Rash

Flowers: +5 Resolve, Horrible Rash

Leave without tasting it: Nothing happens.

Kinda weird that two options are the same. Meh.

For clarity's sake, Opportunities are the orange blips that show up between missions that you can choose to go to; Events are the ones that stop you in the middle of travel.

Ill add that to the main post as well for clarity. Thanks for posting these ones.

When I came across the plant with Leaves/Berries/Flowers, I didn't get a Horrible Rash from the Berries or Flowers, and Leaves only restored 1 Resolve.

Can also confirm RageLeague's experience in the deep bog, the Jake I followed in went crazy and talked about riches, which I played along with and she ended up loving me.

Interesting, maybe the Horrible Rash is rng dependent. Ill hope to get it myself to confirm. As for the resolve restoration, were you already near max?

I also just got the alternate ending for the bog secrets opportunity. Apparently you can also fight Spree. The fight will be isolated so murder is an option.

Just came across the Leaf/Berry/Flower plant. Was able to eat the leaf and flower safely, and the berry gave me the rash. I think the rash is simply rng. Will post as such in the main post until further information is revealed. The leaves did indeed restore 5 resolve, so that one was fine.

It gives you a card that stuns an enemy once per battle. Like kidney shot.

anyone got 1 shot by this beaver looking creature yet?

The damage its belly flop attack does scales with its remaining health, so you want to rush it down ASAP.

It’s definitely a tough fight.

EDIT: also, wow, haven’t unlocked that uniform yet, but Rook looks smooth.

It's a random encounter where a member of the Feud says they saw something big in the bog and they are scared. You can walk away, explore on your own, or convince them to come with you. You may either find this big lizard-beaver guy (tough fight!), or just some treasure (shills).

Chose to convince them the first time and just get some shills. Decided to go alone the second time and found the Belly Flop thing. Would not recommend.

It gives you a 1 cost battle card called Carapace Fragment that gives you 5 Slated Carapace and Destroy.

i found an encounter where a rise pamphleteer gives you the chance to buy a pamphlet for 50 shills. it has a dialog where you can be either supportive, aloof, or dissenting, but they'll always end up offering the pamphlet

they push you to buy it, and you either have to neogtiate or let them dislike you for not taking their thick pamphlet

If you Hatch the Bog secret card before she checks on you, you get a Bog Doom card (1-6 damage, double panic threshold, expend). When she checks on you, you "explain (negotiate) what you saw. Success will lead to her loving you.
