Which I assume serves to alleviate some lunacy on the lunar island is kind of useless in my opinion, it costs 12 Kelp Fronds that I could simply eat to lose 60 lunacy, and recover 112.5 from hunger, using seawreath uses the head slot and takes 6 days to spoil (while Kelp Fronds take 10 days and can still be used as vegetables or fillers in the crock pot) if you can wear this hat for 6 days you will lose 63.84 lunacy, which is not very good compared to kelp fronds

even though she doesn't eat vegetables, for wigfrid it's still kind of useless because she would have to change her helmet for that hat, she could eat monster meat as she regains life by attacking (unfortunately lunacy as well), but she'd better use the kelp fronds as fillers for cooking, Wormwood could simply eat those 12 raw kelp fronds to lose 120 lunacy and restore 112.5 hunger, Wortox could only eat souls to lose lunacy or eat raw kelp fronds losing like cooked ones, and easily recovering the lost life (which is minimal) using souls, for Wurt it is preferable to eat raw kelp fronds to get almost 150 hunger

Seawreath is designed to be an inverse Garland. They are both head slot, craftable tier 0, spoil in 6 days, have similar sanity value (+1.33/s, -1.33/s) and both require 12 of something to craft. In terms of flavor, the symmetry will be broken if something is changed.

But petals and Kelp Fronds are not comparable items, 1 Kelp Fronds is more valuable than 1 petal. In terms of balance, it makes sense to buff Seawreath.

The question is do we value balance more than flavor?

the means of simply reaching renewable kelp is a chore (the ones at sea), unlike the means of reaching a flower.

Plus like OP said, kelp is far more valuable as food.

I'm fine with a garland buff, I don't really use it anyway. What if both garland and wreath had their recipes reduced to 4 petals/fronds?

Spoiler

Crazy idea: what if the hats could stack? Wear one garland for 1.33 sanity/min, 2 for 2.67 sanity/min, 3 for 4 sanity/min etc.

I really want someone to draw a picture where one of the characters have 30 garlands on his head.

what if instead of crafting the Seawreath you can just put individual kelp pieces on your head to lower your sanity, subsequently being able to add as many as your heart desires, at a cost to movement depending on how many are weighing you down.

Would stack something like this:

  • 1   Kelp: -3   Sanity p/m
  • 5   Kelp: -15 Sanity pm
  • 10 Kelp: -30 Sanity p/m (slows by 10%)
  • 30 Kelp: -90 Sanity p/m (slows by 65%)

Obviously in need of changes, but I definitely think this could help.

Sounds like something a crazy person would do.
I like it!

the solution to this problem is to buff the garland as well

In my opinion, the garland being buffed kind of goes against the design of the garland in general. A garland isn't meant to be something you want to craft and wear after you understand the game, it's meant to be something you see in the crafting tabs when you're new, think "oh, this looks easy!', and then notice that you gain sanity from each flower picked in the process. The garland is meant to guide you towards picking flowers without explicitly telling you "go pick some flowers", it's not meant to be something you desire and seek out once you understand the sanity mechanics.

The reason I don't seek out the Garland isn't because I'm more knowledgable about sanity mechanics. It's because I'm knowledge about the Garland's mechanics and how it's a trash item not worth making.

Which, naturally, making it worthwhile would change this exact reasoning.

What if you could dip it into the ocean to get it wet, thus making it a more effective sanity reducer?

You kind of can? I don't think they're allowed to get wet but you can dip them in water.
Just drop it in the ocean and pick it up again, if it can get wet it will and wet clothing alone drains sanity some more.
In theory it should work.

I was thinking of making it, like, a right-click option instead of relying on clicking to drop it in the correct spot. Doing that while sailing could be tricky; you have to make sure you drop it in front of the direction you're sailing, not either on the deck (where it will stay dry) or the back or side of the boat (where it will be quickly left behind).
