Criteria for good world gen?

Recommended Posts

What's your criteria for a good world? Do you like certain biomes close to each other? do you pick specific settings? What kind of setpieces do you want?

For me it's

Both deserts, Pig king Deciduous, Swamp, Bee queen, Reed trap, and triple mactusk if i'm playing for others

As well as an aesthetically pleasing map too, One that looks "good" and makes everything pretty simple/easy to get too.

Tons of pig houses and bunny hutches for mid to late game farms help as well

As a long time player I like maps that are more difficult to explore (especially in caves with ruins dispersed) and if possible even larger.    Once you got up to about 200 days in the old game there wasn't too much left to do.   Making stuff difficult to get to is rewarding in the sense that you construct roads, and build other transport systems.

I like extra touchstones because they save me a lot of hassle, and extra flowers and Volt Goats just for fun.

I don't really have a preference for a specific layout but I like it whenever the world generates in an unusual shape, like a big loop. Large enclosed bodies of water were already neat even before you could sail on them. I also like tiny accessory-islands connected to the mainland by a wormhole (or not connected at all, in this beta or Shipwrecked); my oldest singleplayer save has one of those.

Mushroom rings are very handy. I'm happy as long as there's more than one or two MacTusks on the map but they're not close enough together to gang up on me when I'm playing alone, tbh. And I have to agree, the more wormholes the better.

I like land branch, because it kind of connects the world and makes everything easy to access

More wormholes are better

More Mactusks are better

Closer ruins are better

I'm not sure why land loop would be useful, but idk
