Pragmatic meals and ingredients storage

Recommended Posts

My design of a kitchen and food storage. Minimal electricity consumption, sterilization of ingredients, unlimited capacity, cheap.

Conveyor loader for food ingredients should be accessible for manual manipulation. A loader for meals - shouldn't.

I wonder how automatic supply on the grill works, as it got broken on me hard.

I've experienced ingredients being stuck in the grill where even though there are enough ingredients, you cannot make the food. This became a huge problem on me where even with enough food supply, I'm having starvation problems. This only happened when I supply using the auto-sweeper. Maybe it was about specific configurations? Or do you have a workaround for this? Any ideas?

Why 'pockets' need to be L shaped?

Because if you make 'em I-shaped (2 tiles deep), the top tile "blinks" (sterile gas is being replaced with Oxygen and vice versa) causing spoilage of food in a bottom tile. L-shaped pocket prevents this.

Didn't mention such issues. Maybe I wasn't enough observant...

I like this. Very clever.

Thank you! =)

The ingredients storage works because Dupes can pick up things through walls, even if most interactions (like construction) are prohibited through walls. It would never have crossed my mind to design something around that.

Sorry for my misunderstanding, but I didn't understand if it was a like or not. =) English is not my native.

Thanks everybody for your feedback!

I do something similar.  Center has peppers for both cookers and sleet wheat in non-powered fridge in CO2.  One cooker does pepper bread and BBQ while the other does gristle and stuffed berries for backup.  Food is over to the right for dups to grab.  Weight plates turn off grills when enough is in stock and turn off lights to berries.  Everything in CO2 so low power and mostly automated.  I seem to need three tiles to have 100% sterile all the time.  Two tiles seems to bounce.

All right, color me stupid.  I built this, the  cooked food delivery system part of it, and cannot figure out how to make the sweeper pick up the food to deliver to the dining hall.  The loader does not have an option for cooked food....  What am I missing?

Cooked food is under the Edible tab.

Humm, found a couple of cons of my storage:

1. No availability to use automation dependent on fullness of food storage (e.g. turn off plants growing).

2. No way to sweep dropped meals. To sweep meals, I have to manually turn on manual accessibility of a loader for meals, sweep meals from the floor, then turn accessibility off.

Pity...

Can`t you use weight plates for that?

Of course I can, but I can't control types of food this way. "Full refrigerator of pincha"-way won't work.

Though I've never used such systems, so the first con doesn't matter for me. :) Maybe in the future, if I'll need it, I'll do something different.

There's example of just that few posts above...

I'm afraid to get elegance (Yoma_Nosme's word) of this build lost. :) If someone will show the community something clever like this but more automation-friendly - I'll thank him/her. Following Occam's razor principle, I try to not complexify my builds when it's not needed.

Anyway, I have to thank you for the feedback! =)

First let me say very nice build, well done

Personally I like to use automation to shut down farms when i have too much ingredients/food

Is it possible to use your build and apply sensors (like a pressure plate) when you have enough food on the ground?

First, thanks for your assessment. :)

As I said above, currently I don't need such type of automation. Therefore I didn't think on this question. But at first look button doesn't let know amount of some types of food. If you only need to know total amount to shut your farms down then buttons are of course ok, IMO.

Edit: I hope I understood you correctly and your question wasn't an ask for permission to use this design. XD

You understood me fine lol

I don't plagiarize other players builds. XD

I meant I don't care if somebody uses my builds. =) Even more, it makes me feel good.

As for me, if I like some design - I just use it.

When I say plagairize I mean to post some one else's build and claim it as my own.

I agree it feels good to see other players use my designs
