is dst really challenging?

Recommended Posts

hey guys...

probebly when you want to suggest dst to someone. you say its a very hard and challenging game. you keep dying and stuff. but is it? (vsauce theme played :D )

i mean game is hard for begginers because of lack of knowledge. when you spend some time and surfing on wiki. its done.i know some of bosses are a lillte tricky. but isn't the main purpose of game is to be a survival game? you have absolutely no struggle staying alive. like if you find yourself somewhere in corner of the map widout food. the nearest food have only 30 sec distance with you. you never desperately looking for food or any resource. you never feel you are helpless in middle of the forest/desert. just think about darkest dungeon (which i think klei help make that game or something :D). or the long dark . (sorry i dont know if im allowed to mention other games or not. feel free to edit it)

i know this is now what game is and you cant just change the whole gameplay. im just thinking if you make a bigger map with a little more limited and separated resources but more spoilage time (so when you ran out of resources you are actually in truble). and make a system like fertile soil so you cant have anything anywhere. it make game a little more survival.

sry for my bad english

Yeah, for being an "uncompromising survival game", the games sure get easy once you have any idea what you're doing.

Personally, I think it would be best if they added a hard nerf to all food. Not necessarily in effectiveness, but definitely in quantity.

-Meat shouldn't be so easy to farm. Not so hard that you can only practically get it from hunts and bosses, but definitly not something you should be able to easily farm on day 10.

-foods with high priority that are relativly bad and prevent filler abuse (IE, useing 3 berries to make meatballs results in some kind of fruit dish)

-make farms more viable, lower-tier crops should give more of them, but overall they should be worth the resource investment, though if food's harded, then that should happen by default

-only using a single monster meat in a crock pot meal should result in monster lasagna, adding another type of meat will cancle it, but 2 monster meat will still result in lasagna.

-Feeding monster meat to birds lowers their hunger, requireing you to feed them something else. Monster meat is laughably easy to farm, and makes one of the best foods in the game.

-birds won't eat cooked eggs. both makes sense and prevents infinitely fresh foods

-Proper recipe scaling, easier foods are worse, but rarer foods are better and much more rewarding. Meatballs are laughably easy, but are also the 6# best food in DST. Common foods like meatballs should be on the lower end of the spectrum, while rarer ones such as turkey dinner or Unagi should be much better.

There are probably more I could list, but I need to get to bed.

meatballs should fill 35-50 hunger

and should take like 30 seconds to cook in real life meatballs take forever to cook (i should know)

eh, I'd actually say that all recipes should take a universal 10 seconds to cook. The longer cooking times don't really affect how good the food is, it just makes you wait longer for it to cook

You can already do it, actually. You just need to reduce the number of resource in world creation screen, making the difficult food source more common, and easy food source more rare.

For new player? yes.

For old player? no.

it just need new content for veteran player atm, the content we have can take about couple hundred hours before new player can survive indefinitely.

it's still a survival game, but as time went on, people come up with strategies to help them survive easier, like every survival game out there. :p

So it doesn't need harder settings, there's so much to do already even with enough foods. You always in a tight schedule.

I agree 100%. Veterans thriving in the best possible way is normal for any game. The ability to farm large quantities of food is not something you do over night. Even with videos, new people can still mess it up. People that put 100's of hours into the game worked hard getting to a point, in regards to knowledge, where food acquisition isn't on their list of things to do. Barring some base damaging disaster.

That being said, I do also wish food items like a turkey dinner were a bit more rewarding. I'm honestly getting sick of the meatball spam. Not to mention the people that will go in the fridges and mass produce meatballs. I also wish plots were a bit more, can't really find the word, better.(?) I mean, they work great, but they feel like such an after thought. And most don't bother with them unless they're farming  dragon fruit.

it is bc there is a normal reign of giants world for 2-6 players or even 15!! it should be easier  if those persons are your friends so you can cooperate.

Im gonna guve ya some tips : dont waste the food (in early game is better to have it between 50-75) dont  pick the  food if you dont need it (if you have the luck to have a world rich in resources DONT PICK THEM ALL , why dont? because if you dont eat them they will spoil and then the food will be useless , actually you can use it as a fertilizer )now im gonna tell you some personal tips make your base in caves for spring and maybe summer(you could make the spring base in the caves because there will not be frogs and not even the boss Goose/Goose (srry for my bad spelling)

i actually recomend you geting out of the caves when the boss spawns maybe it will give you some nice stuff and beware of this the climate will be the same in the caves as in the normal world so i highly recomend you getting some farms and wood for the caves , in summer you can get to the oasis , in the caves or put some ice flingomatics in your normal base  but i highly recommedn caves (PS:i dont know if ANTILON will come there so be prepared) and if you choose oasis or normal flingomatic base you should be looking for chester , when you got chester you should be looking for blue gems ( dig up graves ) put one gem in each slot and wait for full moon  then the chester will change his color into white it will help you keeping the food fresh and getting the thermal stones colder) an moving ice box .
