Szczuku
Someone already made a post like this but it's been inactive so I decided to make my own version. While dst definitelly is less creepy than ds that doesn't mean that we can't go back to the good old trailers and stuff. I'm talking about old trailers with "Creepy Forest" and "D.R. Style" playing in the background. Simply trailers that had mostly just the gameplay in them and maybe a sinlge animated 10 sec bit. I think that big trailers that are mostly animated should be saved for the final release of the New Content. I hope that I'm not the only one who thinks that music mentioned above and old-timey-video-tape style of update videos should make a return. Spoiler In case somebady doesn't udnerstand what I meant by that then here's an example of an old update video. Catteflyterpill
I have to disagree with you on this one, both are fine but I think a very large of the general Don't Starve experience is exploration and animation. The animation gets the developers a chance to show off the amazing style Don't Starve is drawn in (though I'm sure it's a hassle to draw up the animations) while still keeping many aspects of updates mysterious. So we still have a chance to explore the world and find things for ourselves rather than being shown via the update trailers which are cool but in my opinion throw off the style of the game. That's just my take on the situation I might be overthinking things, but to each their own. Szczuku
43 minutes ago, Catteflyterpill said: (snip) I didn't say that i want the mostly gameplay trailers back. I said that i want "Creepy Forest" , "D.R. Style" and old-timey-filmy-tapy style back. I also prefer trailers that are mostly animations cuz animations are cool as heck but i also considered the time devs'd have to spend on animating. And doing this for every major update would end up being a pain in the butt for them.... which is why mostly animated trailers usually show content from multiple updates. Hence the "mostly gameplay for every update" and "mostly aniamtion for multiple updates" choices Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/104197-bring-back-the-good-ol-nostalgia/#findComment-1169685 Share on other sites
Mueck
I'd be completely happy if the coming updates had official names and posters similar to the A New Reign updates. Trailers of any kind would be huge bonus! WilsonGuy_
I miss the amazing quality animations from 2013 and the Ragtime, Creepy forest and D. R. Style music videos. I miss the abundace of hidden images/links in these shorts. And I miss the posters for updates and the said updates having names (A little rain must fall, The end of the beggining...). ResettePlayer
I've got a few thoughts as to why I'm not confident this will happen: 1. Well, I can imagine that Klei of 2019 doesn't want to have exactly the same marketing strategy as they did six years ago. Now they (forgive me if I am mistaken) have a larger budget and team for this sort of thing, and so they probably want to push things further. 2. Having gameplay trailers may seem redundant with the Thursday stream. 3. Having more love for the atmosphere of the game in addition to the characters and art would be great, but it does seem like much of the audience is drawn in by the latter two aspects, and trying to reel in more of that kind of audience may be the better financial strategy. This is especially true when one considers that DST is inherently social--lots of importance placed on characters and their interactions-- while DS was meant to be the experience of a lone person exploring this weird, dangerous world. You said it yourself, really. 4. Now, since there are so many 100% animated shorts in the pipeline, those may cover the above theory. But now we have to consider the contrast between an animated short and a gameplay trailer. Though there would be a small audience of people who appreciate the nostalgia, and another group who would appreciate what comes down to a RWP stream TL;DR, a lot of people would probably find these immediately forgettable, even with the occasional animated bit. Their standards may be heightened with the existence of the shorts. Personally, I'd be fine with gameplay trailers. I think it would be great to quickly summarise new content with visual aid to those who may prefer to see, in practice, what the new content is. Posters might be able to cover that, but not as well. 5. A lot of people have been craving a new puzzle. Remember that Hamlet trailer people were analysing last year? If Klei returns to the older style of trailer, they'd be expected to have a puzzle lined up, which makes them less quick-and-easy as they may seem. I'm sure the writers at Klei are planning something (since they've been pampering us with lore lately), possibly having things hinted at in fewer, larger installments. Just looking at the amount of stuff that was dumped in the Winona short makes me think this is true--but the really deeply hidden lore won't be characters so much as Ancient/Metheus/Gatekeeper stuff (since the characters will have their own shorts). So yeah, there will probably be fewer, but more polished trailers. CaptainChaotica
I dunno about what kind of trailer, but I want the posters and the NAMED updates back again, dangit. I got into Don't Starve too late for all of that, so I and tons of other players can only see them as archives now. It'd be AWESOME to see an old-timey circus poster pop up advertising a new thing in the game in 2019, with a much bigger audience than said posters had back in 2012/2013. Including me this time! ...Notorious Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/104197-bring-back-the-good-ol-nostalgia/#findComment-1169783 Share on other sites

S19TealPenguin
Was "A Little Rain Must Fall" released before or after "Doorway to Adventure"? Where would hound mounds be in the base game before RoG's Desert outside of adventure mode?
