hho1
My dupes hang out in the weirdest places when they have nothing to do. It's usually ok but sometimes they stand in places with polluted oxygen for extended periods. Why do they go where they go? Is there a pattern or rule they follow? I wish they would just hang out around the printing pod. Denisetwin
6 minutes ago, Neotuck said: It's random, but if you make a rec room they will go there Is anyone else having issues them using the rec room since the latest update? I have even given an extra unit of downtime and none of them will use the rec room despite having an espresso machine, it shows as rec room in overlay etc. I had just a water cooler there before and I thought maybe needs upgrade to use this time around, so built and stocked the espresso, machine shows it is working and loaded with water and pnuts and they still don't use the room. Before this update and this new game I started for the update, I'd see them congregating in the Rec room just fine. I think I'm going to try giving one dup more and more downtime to see if that's the issue. This isn't the first odd thing with this update, I haven't mentioned because it was such a weird thing, but I've also loaded my save game and had all my glossy dreckos disappear and one other time, all my slicksters. The slicksters happened first and I thought maybe they starved and I didn't notice and later Co2 filled the room, but the glossies I was working with on plastic, had three glossies including one that was a baby and ten mealwood plants, several of them fully grown, saved the game, came back after two days and loaded and no glossies. I thought maybe it was because I had too many critters as I had a morb room from early game that I did not pay attention to that ended up with a LOT of morbs and I had an open ranch squeeky pufts in a giant room by my chlorine geyser that had ONE shine bug get in and later I couldn't figure out why the rancher was never in base and discovered a shine bug explosion up there. So wish there was a way to designate the grooming station to only groom X creature. I guess if I used it properly in a properly built with a closed door stable I would not have this issue..... I thought they still stay where they finished their last job. Anyway dupes that don`t have anything to do just sit idle and walk around where they currently are so in the place they ended their last job. If they are in exo suits they will go back to the checkpoint so they don`t waste oxygen. 31 minutes ago, Denisetwin said: s anyone else having issues them using the rec room since the latest update? I have even given an extra unit of downtime and none of them will use the rec room despite having an espresso machine, Haven`t had any issues personally. Dupes will go to the rec room after they are done with eating and using toilets. Depending on the size of the base they might not have enough time even with the extra downtime unit. Also only one dupe can use the expresso machine at a time. 34 minutes ago, Denisetwin said: loaded my save game and had all my glossy dreckos disappear and one other time, all my slicksters. Did you check the temperature. Sometimes critters can die off when it gets too cold. It doesn`t produce a warning. Check if the temperature in your ranches is inside the critters livable ranges. Junksteel
Actually it's very rare for me to have them idle as I keep few dupes and extract their workforce to the max. They only chill when I trip for a moment. I do it for performance. Not sure, but every debris could cause a calculation in temp change. To prevent that, i store every mat in a seperate locker. I have set two lockers, to accept all(no liquid/melting/offgassing stuff), i look into the two lockers, from time to time and build new lockers, for items included, with +1 prio. Could be placed in vacuum later, to reduce calculations a bit more, not sure how big the impact in performance is. My sys is older and it could handle ONI ok, but i have to prevent things.. Junksteel
@goboking I don't know if you are joking, but you gave a precise description of what my dupes do when they are idle. As dupes seem to enjoy engaging in destructive behavior, it would be cool if they gamble in their free time during work schedule. Gambling could reduce stress but also reduce morale. haha Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/103651-question-what-determines-where-dupes-hang-out-when-idle/#findComment-1163260 Share on other sites

I had 10 - 15 tropical pacu disappear on me recently. I thought maybe they had all died from starvation (though I had looked at them not long before) but there was no meat or anything in their pool. I don't think it was related to a save load though since it was during one session. hho1
I checked if my dupes hang out in the rec room. They don't. They hang out in the ranch, around the cooking grill, around the exo-suit docks, and even in the bathroom (creeps). It's certainly not random but I can't figure it out. PhailRaptor
After finishing a task, if there is no new task for that Dupe, the Dupe will idle in the closest "hospitable" location on a horizontal surface. They will move to a location that is breathable, and will scoot out of areas that are too hot or too cold, but they won't go far. Xuhybrid
Dupes need to go to the rec room if idle for a few seconds. Actually kind of annoying because they all tend to hang out next to the exo suit dock breathing all the oxygen in the same place.
