how do i make Liquid Hydrogen?

You will have to find a material that can be cooled lower than -252C and which can be used either in thermo regulator or aquatuner.

As a tip I can say that there is only one material like this right now.

supercoolant

Cool Hydrogen in gas pipes with thermoregulator until it breaks the pipes during phase change.  Then quickly pump it to cooled reservoir when it falls on the ground..

Liquid hydrogen without super-coolant.  Easy!

Easy? have you ever tried it?

That doesn't work

the heat from the thermoregulator will boil any LH2 faster than it drips from broken pipes

I actually did a while ago, but I abandoned the project because real world things happened and I forgot about it.  I did get a sizable amount of liquid hydrogen by pre-cooling all my equipment and breaking the pipe and repairing it.  My goal was to make liquid hydrogen without any space age materials and, through a rather grueling 50 cycles, I got ~150 kg liquid hydrogen.  I'm sure I can do much better though, as I was using rather inefficient methods to do certain steps.  The trick is to cool the thermoregulator with a liquid and maintain the vacuum and feed it hydrogen at less than 0.1 C above the vaporization point.

The main purpose of this device was to prove its possible.  The concept wasn't difficult, it was just tedious.

My statement was clearly meant as a joke.  I did see a challenge video where someone did this exact thing, but I cannot locate it anymore.  It's possible however.

Thanks for the post Zarquan

Its easy if you do it right. Get supercoolant, which is obtainable with petroleum rockets (even with steam in a good world seed)

Then let ir run through an aquatuner, until it reaches  -252,2°C (i set it to -255 to be sure, and prevent offgasing). Now run the pipe through a chamber filled with hydrogen, and when the stuff changes to liquid, pump it into a reservoir which is also in the cooled chamber to prevent heating up again. (or pump it directly to the rocket, but its slow production)

The problem is not the creation of liquid hydrogen, but the transport to the rocket, without breaking the pipes. Only insulated pipes made of insulation is a safe way.

Not true.  Radiant tungsten pipes that are pre-cooled work just as well if they are traveling through a vacuum.  No heat transfer if it is already cold enough.

But what if you want mass storage of hydrogen without infinite compression exploits before you can get to space to save time when you get to that point?  The system I came up with wouldn't even be a significant drain on resources, only taking about 1.5 kW if I remember correctly.  I powered the whole thing through 1 conductive wire.

yup. and the only reason you need tungsten or steel piping is everything else melts from the hydrogen rocket. If you are using petro rockets with LOX, you can deliver the LOX with iron pipes.

I'm so sorry for what must have been so CLEAR to every one that your statement was a joke

I will try to be more observant in the future

When I make a post about BREAKING PIPES and sucking up the hydrogen with a pump as soon as it hits the ground as an easy way to make liquid hydrogen, and you interpret me as being serious, that's on you.

Didn't know we weren't allowed to make jokes on this forum anymore...

You can, I do it all the time :p

only difference is most people respond to my jokes by clicking on the "haha like" on the bottom right corner of the post ;)
