Please have pig guards not burn down the town?

Recommended Posts

It's still quite annoying that they use torches as a weapon.

If one befriends a few pigs to use as their personal army, they cannot go anywhere at dusk/night for fear of their minions burning down a forest or even their own base. Not to mention that mob drops will be burned to ash... This is made particularly annoying by the fact that pigs follow you for so long. My strategy has become to befriend pigs first thing in the morning, use them to kill whatever my target is, and then immediately slaughter them before dusk. Feels dumb.

Also, I can't count how many time a pig has burned my backpack while fighting bats...

I REALLY hope you reconsider this mechanic, Klei.

not an issue because the hammer pigs will always find the busted houses and restore them. Even if the burnt houses are a ways away from the hammer pigs. this only becomes an issue when u try to build a traditional dont starve base with structures built outside. When everything is inside you'll never be at risk of losing anything from fire. once u get the key to the city ull want to build multiple houses; one for cooking, storage, clothes, etc.

I dont think pig torches are making the game too hard. Its just part of the game. I just make sure I dont go near my house during dusk or darkness, especially if vampire bats just showed up, and if a bandit starts following me I start walking in the opposite direction of my house until a guard scares him away. And before I get the deed, I stand under street lights at night and not around my structures. This game is easier if you decide on patterns for yourself to follow, so that you dont have to think of everything on short notice all the time. Eventually you can make an ice flingomatic outside your house (if you can find gears, which I havent yet). Im no expert so Im not sure if there is a down side to letting NPC buildings burn down or if pigs can actually get killed by bats.

You know what’s really annoying in the vanilla version? How when winter comes and suddenly you have to keep your character warm AND crops don’t grow. How are you supposed to get food??? It’s so annoying and they should fix it.

Well played

Side note, how do you propose I get rid of the thousand or so torches littering the streets? I honestly wish pigs didn't drop them

I just think there's no real justification for this.

Royal Guards main feature seems to be their increased health (a total of 700, compared to 'normal' pig's 250) they only deal 11.2 more damage and can't help to chop down trees.

The fact they can't handle be trusted during dusk or night is a ,major downside as:
If the mobs you wish to attack are far away you either need to lead them there during night or risk it turning to dusk while they fight.
If you encounter hostile mobs on the way there, the Guards will stop following you to attack that mob, wasting time and bring their health down.
Therefor our path to your target need to be precise, because while normal befriended pigs will ignore hostile mobs(until provoked) Royal Guards will attack ON SIGHT.
If they do abandon you to fight a Weevole on the way back they could end up burning down a huge area, and there is literally nothing you can do.

My main issue is that there isn't any real options, you have to risk walking with them either at night or back during dusk. every area you run past with them have a chance of burning down.

You know that you can prepare for Winter right? You can get warm clothing and stock up on foods/fuel.
How do you prepare for a walking forest fire? You use the Ice Flingomatic of course, except you can't take that with you, it needs to stay at your base, or do you have to run around with five Ice Staffs to put out all the fires they're bond to start?
I can't make them stop fighting when they're in combat, I can only walk offscreen and wait for them to either get killed and have their meat eaten or I wait and have them return only to start a forest fire somewhere else.

How is that comparable to Winter? At least if you play as Webber you can get spiders to fight for you, other characters will have to settle for Mants I guess.

Good job downplaying an actual issue and comparing it with a game mechanic that actually make sense!

Do you really think pig guards burning down the city they are supposed to protect make an once of sense at all?
