B1663r
So some where I messed up, and I have a bugged metal refinery. When I delete it, it explodes into a cloud of steam of 1200+ degrees and immediately melts the surroundings. Where did I go wrong? Can this be fixed? To prevent check with automation, if outlet pipe is empty, before dupe is using refinery.. SakuraKoi
Well, that happens if you let the pipe remain broken. In a way it sure makes sense that the coolant is simply recycled while the container is so sturdy that it allows for superheating. Don't let that happen again and it is not like the end of the world/colony, it will just take some time fixing the aftermath. Ofc I'll not mention the floating vending machine and table, don't worry about that~ Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/98668-buged-metal-refinery-what-do/#findComment-1115274 Share on other sites

PhailRaptor
There are some shennanigans you can perform to reduce the temperature of the liquid while being held by the Refinery, but no matter what you do it's going to take a lot of time to bleed the heat off. Especially that much -- 1200+ C is massive. suicide commando
Debug is one way to get rid of this little bomb, otherwise, you could build an isolation room around it, possibly with some steam turbines hooked up, and let this baby give you some power when you make it explode. Lifegrow
You could always go for the dramatic approach and fill your base with ice sculptures Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/98668-buged-metal-refinery-what-do/#findComment-1115301 Share on other sites

Can this be fixed It's not a bug as a lot of players you missed that the Metal Raffinery has been changed during the lastest updates. Before, we were able to loop polluted water without getting heat or a very small amount. Since the fix, you get a lot a heat on the coolant. About your problem, few solutions : rollback and enclosed your raffinery or use the steam for a turbine. So to avoid this mistake : To refine the "classic" metal (copper, gold, wolfranite, iron) : - Polluted water -> Metal Rafinery -> Water Sieve (NEVER LOOP or use a cooling system but more complex) To refine Steel : - Crude oil -> Metal Refinery -> Petrol rafinery Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/98668-buged-metal-refinery-what-do/#findComment-1115322 Share on other sites
tzionut
Ice sculptures is ok, the best version is ice or polluted ice termoshift plates , after is cooled under 90 degrees deconstruct. You've never been able to loop polluted water to cool it without it boiling in the pipes. And this bug has been around for at least 2-3 updates, probably longer. DaveSatx
when this happened to me the first time last playthrough i did an empty on the refinery. man that was a lot of steam and heat but not the end of the world just many cycles of remediation. The next time (my attempt to prevent failed) I just stopped its queue and set repair of the pipe to 9. this let them release small quantities of steam a t a time and was much more bearable. This playthrough i use automation with the liquid pipe element sensor to disable the refinery if the pipe a few segments away still has anything in it. no more meltdowns Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/98668-buged-metal-refinery-what-do/#findComment-1115395 Share on other sites

Before Rockrety Upgrade, I was able to refine Steel with a pool of polluted water. Try today, to refine steel with polluted water with reuse it. tzionut
This is my setup first i bring polluted water and make steel, then convert it in 40 degrees clean water, when the water reach the level set the sensor stop the input of the polluted water and the pump bring 40 degrees water. To the sieve output in the water is under 41 degrees it goes to the 40 degrees reservoir, if not to the bottom reservoir. In this way a use the water 2 times. The result is 96 degrees water if a make steel or 76 degrees water if i make iron. The hot water i send to the oxygen generation or water cooler. Spoiler .
