Didn't get a full explanation as farmers try to keep there breeds secret (as it seems). Farmers usually breed Higlands with Gelbviehs to produce a mix that contains high muscle cows, which means more saleable meat. And then depending on what they want, they will take that hybrid and cross it with something else. If they want feedlot cows (cows grown for slaughtering) the farmer will usually an Angus or Hereford. People love Angus meat. I initially said a Watusi cross, because horns seem to be quite big on the beefalo, but maybe they just started as a Highland x Gelbviehs with a tendency towards bigger horns. Maybe the current beefalo are the descendants of the cows used by the ancient civilization?
