Nitroturtle
You'd think this would be enough... but nope! Still overproducing.. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96898-enough-batteries/ Share on other sites
InternetGuy
Why smart batteries? Or is this the old batteries with a new art? Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96898-enough-batteries/#findComment-1098260 Share on other sites
Nitroturtle
Less charge loss and I have basically unlimited iron versus very limited ore. Saturnus
19 minutes ago, InternetGuy said: Why smart batteries? Or is this the old batteries with a new art? Why not? Cheaper in materials than large batteries. You can build two for the same ore cost (when using metal refinery) but more importantly you get tons of free refined iron from space, not to mention refined metal from metal volcanoes. They have less than half the power loss, so even with twice as many they're better. And they have less than half the heat output, so even with twice as many they're better. In fact, in every way you look at it, smart batteries are just plain better unless you're specifically constrained for space which is unlikely. Yes, if I wanted a waste a bunch of steel for no benefit. In the screenshot there's around 260 batteries, or about 55t of iron. I have much better uses for steel. 6 minutes ago, InternetGuy said: Thanks for the tip though. I'll make this in the end game. :3 Also, don't get me wrong, this isn't necessary at all. This is just me doing silly stuff while I wait for the update to drop. Cypher-7
So if I’m reading that correctly, you are 100% powered by solar and you can’t even store it all? SakuraKoi
Of course there is always overproduction if your consumption and charge loss is smaller~ and a Smart Battery merely wastes like 400 W each cycle, while a constantly running pump/electrolyzer/anything with 120 W would be 72.000 W already. On a fine day a Solar Panel also produces on average 262 W per second (157.25 KW per cycle). Now what's actually important to note is how many batteries one needs to stand against even the worst conditions, i.e meteor showers during mid-cycle and I'd say... even if you have another set of 260 Smart Batteries, you do not have enough! You may be able to store 10.4 MW but you apparently need 3 MW per cycle, that only lasts you for 4 of 10 days of Armageddon! but you need on average 5kW each second, huh? You could just "employ" 12 + ~6 dupes to run constantly~ Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96898-enough-batteries/#findComment-1098306 Share on other sites

Well, I have backup power obviously. I have a bank of hydrogen generators backing up the solar setup that will disconnect from this large bank when power is low and can handle keeping the solar system up and running without issue for multiple cycles. I also am currently turning all my NG to methane to store it more efficiently, so I have a little bit of backup there too. Yoma_Nosme
Okay. But why so many batteries?...wouldn't it be better to decrease production instead of building mt. Everlast ;D even with the negligible power loss of smart batteries that many of them lose a fair bit... Edit. On the other hand....why not...knock yourself out...what's worth doing is worth overdoing Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96898-enough-batteries/#findComment-1098315 Share on other sites
Nitroturtle
Haha Mt. Everlast, I love it. This is just me trying to see how many batteries I need to store my overproduced solar power, so it's basically free energy. My energy usage is much smaller than my potential production, so I was just having fun with it. There's actually two. They more than keep up and I plan to pipe some oxygen through to pre-cool before a condenser. Edit: Actually, I can't say for sure if they keep up, because I just recently doubled the number of batteries. They were doing fine though. I don't really math anything out in this game, I just kinda try stuff and tweak it till it works. If they don't keep up, I have 500+ wheezeworts so I can just add a few. About the only heat issue I'm having, is that I don't have enough of it.. Well, you got a lot of it down below, and largely inaccessible~ (If the next major upgrade, or rather update now, does not replace all Unobtainium with Uselessalite, I'm seriously going to... cry and I can only blame myself for it, I should have pushed my mod more/actually pushed it) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/96898-enough-batteries/#findComment-1098614 Share on other sites
