How does interstellar research work now?

Recommended Posts

With the new preview branch, massive requirements on interstellar research, requiring between 400 and 800 research points, were introduced on the space stuff. It's takes a huuuugeeee long time to do it just with the space telescope.

There is also a second building now that get you interstellar research points, the virtual planetarium, which requires those floppy disks. Can somebody explain how that works exactly (how to get the floppy disks, not what floppy disks are or do)?

In theory: "those floppy disks" are produced by observatory and rocket modules. Personally I have yet to see a disk. Likely not fully implemented yet thus issues, otherwise single rocket module looks like it will provide data for 50 points of research and there will be 250 points from asteroid in total - in combination with observatory enough to get your science going. I suggest not sending research modules yet, wait until it gets fixed.

Damn. I only have 2 dupes able to do instellar research, with no other dupe even close to the trait, I only have 2 telescopes running. This is going to take such a long while.

Virtual planetarium code

public const float MASS_PER_POINT = 10f;

public static readonly Tag INPUT_MATERIAL = ResearchDatabankConfig.TAG;

It means that we need 10 kg of data banks for 1 gamma point. Telescope and research module rocket have not yet a code for data bank production

Telescopes now produces Data Discs

I've never seen this. Telescopes produce Interstellar Research and telescopes also produce Data Discs that required for another Interstellar Research? It's very confusing. Data Disc should be the product of the Research Module for the sake of simplicity.

Data Disc is not yet fully implemented. Once Data disk will get fully implemented, Telescopes will stop producing interstellar research at all.

From what i see first you must build the observatory for unlock the basic rocket, then build your first rocket, and sent to the first planet to collect more research point, then proceed to the second and so on. I wasn't play whit rockets because the immense quantity of bugs...Now i will see what i will find...

The plan is 1 or more rockets only for science, 1 for creatures (shove vole in particular) and resources (diamond, wolfram, and the new stuff for testing)

Post edit:

You can do research whit the observer (too slow require glass oxygen and power added whit line of sight), or rockets whit research module which require the planetarium to be transformed in research points. I prefer the second option.

Post post edit:

The research work in this way:

Whit observer you reveal at first all the unknown planet (see the second spoiler), and you can observe the composition of the planet. Whit the rocket and the research module you analyze the atmosphere, surface, magnetic field, and substance... more research point for the planetarium.

I didn't try yet if it works to reveal planets direct whit research module or if is possible to send a rocket to one unknown planet. I will post again after i try.

I think this is pointless. If I understand correctly, you will be able to get 250 research per asteroid top. So it is pointless to have dedicated rocket - 1-2 trips and it is no longer usable.

There are much more destinations now. Visiting them all will take much more trips. The rocket won`t be usable after you visit them all but it`s the same as research stations after you do all the research.

You can always modify it after you explore all the planets to bring back what you want and need. One thing is sure. I still researching for unlocking the basic rocket and the regolith increase hit 450 tones only in a small cornet of the map...

Oslo it seem that regolith now have a higher temperatures 400 degrees.

Those destinations will require different engines. You can't reach past 30Mm at steam thruster. You need that research to get new thrusters, you need new thrusters to get more research. So such thing as dedicated research steam rocket simply won't work - you will have to strip it down earlier or later.

So you suggest to let 5-7t of steel simply sit and wait forever? It is likely that even further destinations will appear later so it won't be like normal stations - likely it will never find a use, so no point keeping it.

P.S. Adding cargo module on top of research rocket should also be reasonable - early on it will add relatively little fuel/range penalty but will provide usable resources.

The interstellar research works... but is to nerfed. You have 21 planets all whit 5 x 50 point, so 5250 data bank what it means now you will have 525 interstellar research points :) ....this is a joke. Practical you are forced to use glass and observatory, that is 3600 interstellar research points after you research the first tier.

This isn't the problem for me, the only problem is the regolith dropped in this time. As i said in previous post in other threads, for these first 200 points i have to take an input of 600 tones of regolith....and more 3 tone for the first (and maybe the last launch), if the steam engines can't be stack one above other.

Post edit:

It seem that you can stack the steam engine one above other. I want to reach the 30000 km planets to see if you can send a rocket to one unobserved planet

Stack 1 bunker door with 1 tile vacuum, then 2 mech Door. Close mech doors when met shower. After shower, open & close top door 3-4 times to delete regolith, then open bottom door.

No regolith that way. Only some stray bits break through as chunks, not tiles.

One image make lots of words. So in your setup you only dig the big chunks of regolith to small packs of 25 tones. It isn't deleted. I put an auto digger on top to dig al the regolith and sweep whit dupes (more fast this way) to the storage container to the left...I do the 200 interstelar research points, and take out the power to the scanner... so 5 doors opened only when wasn't storm for 50 cycle i go up from 9185 tones to 9800 tones... 600 tones.. this is what i want. This regolith gone :)

For deodorizer it use 320 kg at 2 - 3 cycle.. take polluted oxygen and give oxygen + clay...but is to slow and i don't have enough polluted oxygen.

So i build 2 types of of smelter for the regolith - 1 saturnus version improved...and my version for cooling some water for my future sweet wheat farm, now i will build in survival my regolith smelter using the bottom magma, for a faster melting speed, and i have another idea for a smelter that i will build after i finish the smelter named "ragnar pit"

In between time i try to see if whit 3 or 4 steam engine i can reach 30000 kg for analyze whit research module that planet tagged as destination unknown, and try to find as many bugs i can...(8 until now... already reported... more bugs find and reported - better game playing in the future) In this way we all will enjoy a better game.

Now i make a good use of that cold steam vent in the regolith zone for powering the steam engine :)

It is deleted, I Will Post pictures on the evening & There already are videos about it online.

Thanks i find it

P.E. I will build it and try it...I want to see if it works even whit pieces of 25 tones of regolith

Post post edit;

It does'n work whit the already existing digged regolith :) look

I will test even whit spawned regolith to see if it works

The result sorry but not. The bug is already fixed :)

You play on the 585480 version... in the development build i think doesn't work any more... 5 minutes and post the results...

This is whit horizontal doors

And this is whit spawned regolith 9080 after i cleaned the existing regolith.. then i spawned 4 rows x 10 tiles x 2 tones = 80 tones.. and it delete all the non digged regolith.. its i very nice bug but still a bug.

Its the only bug I use, but it seems to me that its the only way to keep playing. Other option is robo miners that come in the next patch, but as you say, you get 600 tons of regolith.. that's a deal breaker.

Quote

You can use the miner to mine and the doors to transport the regolith to a vole farm

The vole eat 14 kg/ cycle.....and after a meteor storm the regolith dropped is like hundred of tones. How many shove vole you need for this to work?

Is it possible to keep the subject to interstellar research?

Observatory no longer produce interstellar research, interstellar research no longer needed for steam rocket. Research module produces data for 50 interstellar research from unknown 'samples' (5 samples per asteroid, 250 research) and 10 from known so once you exhaust your 'samples' you still have a source of research.
