Thermal Grill

An alternative to the Electric Grill, the Thermal Grill requires no power, but doesn't work at all, and works at a proportionally reduced rate, below certain temperature thresholds.

Uhh, okay, when it works then? i understand that it works slower at lower temperatures(lower than what?) but you stated it doesnt work at all, me confusad

Well obviously it's not going to work at 0*c, for example, whereas it'll work faster at 100*c than 75*c.

So it's just a stone slabb really ? And presumably the player get some way to heat it up really like a regular old grill ? How short of piping hot gas,i though ? I mean if there where firepits, fireplates, induction plates or even boilers (I mean in a smaller and easier form piing burning burning gas through a room ful off liquid) I would get the interest but here, I'm not realy sure how or why you'd use it.

Tempshift plates, regular methods of moving heat, etc.

How exactly would you suggest the dupes utilize this heat-powered grill?

 

Now, if you want to suggest a hydrogen / natural gas powered grill, I'd be all for that.

By putting food on it and cooking it?

So rather than using power to cook your food, you use an existing heat source, right?  I like this idea.  If you have a room that is 200 C, why do I need an oven to cook my pizza?

Not really sure why or how you'd ever be telling your dupes to cook in an area that's scalding hot. This suggestion seems extremely niche.

Why would the area be hot? My BBQ goes up to 300*C, for instance, yet I don't dry up and combust by standing next to it.

Yeah it is funny that shrooms or berries dont cook or fry into coal when dropped into magma.

It could be used to make dried food like dried berries and seeds.

You suggested tempshift plates as a mean of transfering heat, so the area around the building would become very hot too. It would be like building an oven-like area. The BBQ example is confusing because these obviously uses some kind of fuel to generate concentrated heat, which is different.

Personally, I would like food to be affected by ambiant heat, and to see a coal or nat gas powered cooking method.

Well yeah, the building only works when the area beneath it is hot. It itself would be thermally non-conductive and whatnot.

It's a solar oven, just replace solar with solar/magma/whatever.
