People keep getting it wrong.

You need certain foods to CREATE a creature type, you don't need to feed the sage hatch dirt for it to lay sage hatch eggs.

In case of sages, there is no real alternative. In cosmic, fertilizer is no longer a byproduct of natgas maker and pdirt is just immature dirt.

Plastic dreckos can't eat lilies so no real saving here either.

I do not see the benefit of Sage hatches. They eat precious dirt I need for Mealwood I need for Dreckos

they eat other things too like polluted dirt, fertilizer, and algae.

I still feed mine dirt now as dirt is easy to mass produce

Now i'm Stuck in some power limbo before getting petroleum or solar with nothing in the middle.

I'm still not seeing how solar is viable. You need to go to surface, make crap ton of steel, glass and walls. Power detectors and doors just to hopefully eek out less than half of hamster wheel worth of electricity?

The true end game power comes from wheels btw. When you're done your dupes are idle after all.

I feed them polluted dirt, getting a single sage is super easy I usually have one before I have a rancher just due to RNG. But I keep one alive at all times literally just to eat my polluted dirt, once i switch over to toilets its gone.

Yeah I don't expect to be able to do much solar stuff.  It just appears to be the path they expect people to somehow do.

I'm more likely to turn oil to natural gas with molten glass before getting a lot of solar up.
