Hatch butchery?

Recommended Posts

It seems kinda wrong to write this, but I need a efficient way to mass kill hatches :) my hatch farm has around 40-50 individuals and I farm them for coal and meat. They lay so many eggs that I dont bother incubating them with the machine, i just storage them in a freezer until they are born naturally. Its a real pain to kill them the old fashioned way, especially stone hatches with their 200 hp.

My design for a hatch drowning-butchery (weight plate and mechanized airlocks with water beneath it) doesnt seem to work, the hatchlings just jump over the open doors (bug?). Does anyone has another idea how to drown hatches efficiently? Poor things. now i feel bad for them.

edit: hatchlings are not jumping in water so it seems. they just stay on the one block and do not move. otherwise the solution would be much simpler

I thought eggs stay at 100% if the right conditions for a birth are not met (they dont get born IN the freezer for example), but I'm not sure actually o.0 I'll test this right now

mhm...but how to drop the eggs in a watertank? I dont want any dupes to be involved in the process :)

Instead of dropping the hatches, why not use a door sequence to move the water UP, and flood the ranch? Have the ranch floor made of mesh tiles, a 4-5 door sequence below as wide as the ranch, and when it's execution time, cycle the doors to drown the little meat sacks.

I'd recommend not using pH2O, as it will rot the food even submersed.

Side topic, do automated sweepers work on foodstuffs like meat and sleet wheat?

they work on any object as long as they are in range of something that uses it (you can supply electric grills with them for example)

if you interrupt the power to a sweeper when it is in mid sweep of an object it will drop the item.  I built a simple automation that did this to feed hatches before Ranch MK1 came out

okay, may I present: "the crypticorb Doom-Room"!

It is beautiful. Works flawlessly: The critter triggers the trap with the weight plate. The room gets flooded for 30 seconds and simultaneously the sweeper is activated to pick up the meat and send it to the freezer room. Additionally I installed a pump so the room is vacuumized - no air bubbles to save the hatches.

So that means meat is better than eggs for food? I havn't checked the calories yet.

Barbeque has a food quality of 5 whereas omelette has a merely 2. That means your dupes are double as happy while eating. and omelettes have 2800 kalories, barbeque has 4000.

How are the numbers? How much meat / egg? How long incubation / egg?

I realise the difference between omelett 2800kcal vs barbeque 4000 kcal, but are you paying incubator Watts? Waiting 20 cycles to mature or how are you making.. The meat?

Making a doorpump butchery is easy. How are you getting the hatches to the butchery? They are born and butchered at birth?

i transport the eggs automatically from my stables via rails and they get put into a unpowered freezer inside the butchery. All my farms (100+ creatures) deliver a steady stream of eggs, perhaps 5-10 per day. as soon as the freezer is full I just unload it with a click. While the eggs incubate inside the fridge and stay at 100% percent, as soon as I unload the fridge half a dozen critters spring to life, to meet their immediate fate. Then the meat gets transported automatically to my vacuum room. God, I love automation.

The sweeper does.. it's a beautiful design, although I think you should use clean water, not polluted water to drown those little buggers. I take it that baby hatches produce just as much meat as full grown ones?

What are you feeding them on your ranch? sage hatches that eat your fertiliser from your fertiliser maker / ng power plant?

Do shinebugs now drop meat in ranching mk2? in the mk1 version they didn't drop meat afaik.

As for pacu's, there's another thread out there, where I suggested using a same setup as this hatch butchery, but with reverse automation for the doors. Normally they are open, until it's time to butcher them pacu's, then they open and leave them all on mesh tile dry land.

Pacu don't die if left stranded on land...for some...reason.

Just throw them in a vat of liquid phosphorus. :wilson_goodjob:

Or better yet, boil them in oil. Make some deep fried pineapple:
