so sometimes i get carried away exploring the map in any game so that when i set up my final resting place it's gone winter; ah, problem, seeds don't spawn in winter so how am i gonna trap a bird without waiting long enough for the sun to swallow me? Then i saw on the wiki that you could put a bird to sleep mid flight with the almighty pan flute; wanting to see if this was true i checked it out and it is still doable, although a bit difficult to pull off correctly without wasting a use of the pan flute.

since all servers have a guaranteed pan flute in them this could save time instead of hunting silk.

yeah you would need silk at some point, but this is a lot quicker short term.

or you can Just ice staff a bird and drop the trap on the " birdsicle " ?

edit : Read to quick sorry you want ro prevent the use of trap and not silk ...

Or you could just not eat all of your seeds before winter, it's not that hard.

mhm, then you have got to find silk. the point is that it is a time saver and creates less waste.

you can also potetnially get a bird from a befriended catcoon completely disregarding the panflute. Just needs a whole lot of luck.

It's a neat trick for lazy people; not needing to bother making a bird trap or feeding a catcoon, really fast too 

One panflute use isn't a high price to pay for that sweet, sweet ease of use imo (probably shouldn't do it on public servers though).

thanks for this coool trick, i've been having so much trouble getting silk, i don't understand why they're so rare and difficult to come across, and farming silk is not quite an easy task

but thanks to this trick, i've saved a lot of time and resources just by using the almighty olfactory panflute

i have several stacks of panflutes stockpiled in my chests so i might as well use them to catch birds to save up the expensive silk i've been trying to farm to no avail

this is even more useful to me because i have a mod that makes panflutes infinite durability so they're more fair to use (since you pretty much NEED mods to make the game playable), so i don't have to spawn in any more panflutes if they get close to breaking

Glad to help. I know silk farming can be a paint especially if you haven’t got a spiders nest near by, however like I did say silk is needed. Check out some methods of farming silk with bunny men, then you only have got to collect the loot. Or you could go tumble weeding for an eternity.

This might be very useful in an all caves run, as you can obtain a bird on the one aboveground day.
