Hatch Egg for Food

Recommended Posts

At 100% happiness it takes a hatch 10 cycles to produce 1 egg, and one omelet is 2,800 kcal

The average dupe needs 2,000 kcal per cycle  1,000 kcal per cycle

10 cycles (20,000 10,000 kcal) divide by (2,800 kcal) omelet is 7.14285 3.5714

Round up it will take 8 hatches 4 hatches to sustain 1 dupe

So for 7 dupes you will need 7 stables at 96 tile room size (max for 8 hatches) each with grooming and feeding stations  28 hatches (about 4 stables)

Good luck :D

Wow guys thanks for the help with the math. 28 hatches hmmm thats quite a lot now with over population

I'm sure you guys have more.  Most hatches are hidden in natural solid tiles, you just need to dig them out

Follow up question, whats the best thing to feed hatch with. I am trying to feed them dirt but somehow its down to 8t of dirt

Igneous rock, clay, polluted dirt and eventually Fertilizer.

You will struggle to feed 28 hatches no matter what you feed them. Try keeping a stable of slicksters as well to for an easy boost to egg supply.

looks like hatch is not a sustainable source of food... Is slickster still that same? They just eat Carbon Dioxide?

And also do they produce egg every 10 cycle?

Hatch is sustainable, it's just difficult to use as your sole source of food. If you use natural gas or petro gens then you should be keeping slicksters as the best option to deal with the co2 anyway and the eggs are a nice byproduct. In my current colony I'm keeping 20 slicksters over 3 stables and 6 hatches in another stable. My 12 dupes mostly live on eggs but small berry and sleet wheat farms make up the rest.

I am trying to avoid farming as of the moment my last base wast destroyed due to lack of water :(

You might find mushroom farming more suited to your needs then. You'll need to keep an eye on disease management but you won't strain your water supply.

If you want to make ommelettes, slicksters are a much better egg source, they don't eat your materials, only CO2, which you can send down there from a NG generator / Fertiliser maker power station. Just remember to set up an exosuit entry point to the downstairs part of your base where you keep them, as it's warm down there. Oh and you get oil as a bonus from them too :)

I feed my hatches polluted dirt, but like suicide commando said, its good to use slicksters

Either your dupes have got permanent diarrhoea or your hatches aren't getting much food...

Are you happy to feed your dupes eggs made from poop ? Bleurgh!

Haha! On this note... eggs should make all dupes flatulent :D

Emulating real life, too many eggs mean distinguishing smelly eggy farts, stressing out their friends and turning your base into a natural gas generator. If you don't know what I mean, I invite you to share a tight space with me after I have boiled eggs for breakfast...

For extra stupidness, freeze natural gas made from egg farts to make lovely fart omelettes :)

Puft farming! 4 pufts in a stable can fertilize 60 or more mushrooms with no disease.  And you get their eggs as a bonus

I store about 200 cycles worth of poop.... and Dam straight i make the dupes eat the eggs! Obviously it eventually does run out, after that I feed em igneous rock.
