This is how I usually plan out the central base in the beginning.

1) Farms go below the printing pod level to keep them cool as long as possible.
2) Restrooms go in the entrance so people can access them easily and if they hand dirty hands will wash them before entering the base
3) Everything that produce any kind of heat is placed above the printing pod level

For OCD people or just symmetry fanatics note that the printing pod is not the center line of the map. The leftmost tile of the printing pod and the rightmost tile of the starting ration box is the centerline of the map.

You play on another level :D I'm just a noob trying to figure out how to survive past 100 cycles in the new patch.

I don't even dare to make coal generators nowadays :D

Btw, why 2 pneumatic doors on top of each other?

Can I ask you why your Exo-Room is going in both way ?
Plus if u want to clean some ressources from slimelung you gonna need a Chlorine room with some Ore Scrubbers in it

I recommand you to build your water sieve up to your PW tank, where some emmited Polluted Dirt can turn clean water to PW (happened once so i still care of it) and emit some polluted air, so you can close the whole thing with doors.
You can let a little deserved water tank next to your farms before switching to hydroponic tiles, reduce travels time.

Be aware that all your Toilets + Compost are going to emit PO², so set up some deodorizers (later in CO² locked rooms) here.

Keep it up ! ;)

Exo suit rooms have directions, so I chose to have 2 rooms on top

I find it very interesting that your base setup is almost identical to the way I play - the only difference is that I use 4 high hallways on all levels.

Apart from that basic layout of above/below printing pod, double doors, etc is exactly like my setups.

You know what they say about great minds, right?! :p

I'm surrounded by swamp biome on my latest save. Going to be fun breaching it. :S

it's hard, you have to either push chlorine into it, or put up lots of hand sanitizes next to it. plus you gotta get that medical station up and make lots of vitamin chews.

prevention always works better.

Here's the new base based on the last one and what you suggested:

I'll quote a comment I made elsewhere:

... all you need to know about slimelung is that it reproduces in slime and polluted oxygen, dies slowly in everything else, and if it overpopulates in a slime tile, it expands to the neighboring tile.

From those mechanics you can extrapolate that in order to make this room completely safe, without any reachable tiles exposed to slime...

you need to do this...

And, obviously, place any slime you dig out in chlorine storage to kill off the germs on it.

To prevent polluted oxygen getting into your base you can build a multi-door airlock (or something even more thorough, like a vacuum seal), or just spam deodorizers at the entrance.

As far as actually working in the toxic biome, your dupes can survive a fair amount of germs in their body. Just watch their immunity while you dig out the area and, if it goes down to a level you're not comfortable with, postpone all work in that area.

Expansion through the slime biome isn't as difficult as it looks unless you're playing with miserable immune systems.. Use airlocks and deodorizers, take it slowly, and retreat for a few cycles if immunity starts dropping too fast.

Another option is to chill it away.  Slimelung will start to die as it gets colder.  Strip away the Abyssalite on the edges of your explore tunnels near any Ice Biomes, and simply wait.  Use Wheezeworts to accelerate the process.

Time consuming, but low effort and low risk.

@ Posts above

Colony lost to heat + low oxygen + low water + germs

I ran out of algae & water + plants overheated

Last one was a pretty bad seed, I had no way to access wheezeworts early and no chlorine around my base!

This one has a steam geyser nearby.
