Improvement Ideas

Recommended Posts

So I've decided to make a topic to help each other make better bases.

It can also be useful for beginners to learn new thing.

So here was my last build:

?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-forma

I had some natural gas problem, I asked the reddit (/r/OxygenNotIncluded) users nobody really helped, it wasn't really efficient so I decided to scrap it.

And here's my new one based on my last build:

YAZ6xYS.jpg

I'm planning to get all the polluted water around and move them to left and right water containers, build power generators and oxygen generators outside of the base, and make some plastic.

And oh, 2 exosuit stations (one on top, one at the bottom)

Help me improve it, please.

You are someway "a symmetry fanatic"?
I would delete one wing first, as first task. ^^

not really :D

I wanted it to be a good square box so I can isolate gases, it's much easier to oxygenate this.

but it looks good on this run.

why would you delete one of the wings?

Because you don't need it really, but washbins for the dining section would be nice.
Try the new update ^^

I tried, didn't like, its too laggy for me.

You see some of it has purpose, left and right water reserves are good for taking water from the world, kitchens come in handy when there's food shortage, other parts, not so much.

I really don't know what to do for power,

I can't make a huge natural gas generator (so resource heavy my gpu would fry :D)

Here:

Use hamster wheels first, then electrolyzers, use hydro generator to add some power.
Move your farm to bottom of right base, use that co² to get a sterile farm atmo.

because your still trying to farm mealwood, switch to bristle berries instead, posted around the dupe printing pod.   Supplement with mealwood mushed to loafs. Working them both it works out.

He's playing the Tubular Upgrade as you can see in the screenshot, so he should just get some mealwood going and be done.

and if you replace the middle floor of your farms with airflow/mesh tiles you will get light on both floors and double your bristle productions :)  Based on some testing your bathroom design can support a colony of 12, but you don't need a fraction of that compostability, also I would suggest shoving it behind the bathrooms :)

That's just ugly :D No airflow/mesh tiles allowed on my build

Also meal lice is easier and faster food production.

Thanks for the tip though, I will use it on a big farm later.

with the amount of dirt in the average block, not for 300 cycles

You're gonna run out of dirt if you stick with meal lice, and you'd better hope you have all your research done by then or else you'll have a fun time trying to bake fertilizer into dirt.

Thoughts...

1. Grow more bristle blossoms.

2. If any dupes make a mess, that's going to go straight into your water reservoir. Food Poisoning will then become a problem, assuming you're still cooking mushbars or liceloaf. This wasn't a problem in your original design.

3. You will eventually run out of algae. Electrolyzers introduce their own problems (heat, hydrogen and eventually running out of water), but they'll keep you going for quite a bit longer than deoxidizers.

4. You should put an airlock or a deodorizer on the compost bins to reduce the possibility of future slimelung.

I realized Volx style playing is the worst, here's the new base

my suggestion would have been to have your food source close to your kitchen area, same thing for your water. In your first build it seemed like your dupes had to go all the way up to farm then all the way down to fetch water. Airflow tiles and mesh tiles can be aesthetic too you should try them

Update:

from reddit:

So I was thinking, what should I build to be able to expand easily. And here's what I came up with: http://img4host.net/upload//101519225a7eff6ac61ae.jpg

Steps: 1-Build 5 tiles on the right + 5 tiles on the left 2-Reach for water 3-Build the toilet in the meantime 4-Build the research station 5-Rush for agriculture research 6-Build the farms in the meantime

It succeeded for the first time as I can easily feed 4-5 dupes in the early cycles. Also I should note that the farms should be 5 tiles high to fit more bristles in there.

toilets, water sieve, pumps, liquefiable storages:

http://i67.tinypic.com/s4z0k0.jpg

I decided not to remove the older toilets since at some point I just might run out of power.

Added mess hall, med bay, rock granulator, done all the research, made farm tiles and removed the planter boxes, moved the food boxes to bottom right.

Now all it needs is some power and rewiring with conductive wires.

Some minor adjustments: refinery room + powering up the pumps + water sieve http://img4host.net/upload/111053085a8012848c50e.jpg

Can I ask you why your Exo-Room is going in both way ?
Plus if u want to clean some ressources from slimelung you gonna need a Chlorine room with some Ore Scrubbers in it

I recommand you to build your water sieve up to your PW tank, where some emmited Polluted Dirt can turn clean water to PW (happened once so i still care of it) and emit some polluted air, so you can close the whole thing with doors.
You can let a little deserved water tank next to your farms before switching to hydroponic tiles, reduce travels time.

Be aware that all your Toilets + Compost are going to emit PO², so set up some deodorizers (later in CO² locked rooms) here.

Keep it up ! ;)

This is how I usually plan out the central base in the beginning.

1) Farms go below the printing pod level to keep them cool as long as possible.
2) Restrooms go in the entrance so people can access them easily and if they hand dirty hands will wash them before entering the base
3) Everything that produce any kind of heat is placed above the printing pod level

For OCD people or just symmetry fanatics note that the printing pod is not the center line of the map. The leftmost tile of the printing pod and the rightmost tile of the starting ration box is the centerline of the map.
