Just Wondering why we didn't have a one day New Year's thing and I been seeing a few posts about The Year Of The Varg

Recommended Posts

ANYTHING for New Year's would've dope...

And I seen about the year of the Varg where it'll be like a month of increased hounds... Will admit game play would be trash lol but wouldn't mind going through that hell online

We don't need an update for every single holiday out there, the developers barely managed to get out Winter Feast in time at the cost of half of the cast losing up on their Snowfallen skins.

Also if i'm not mistaken there has been no official confirmation about a "Year of the Varg" event. It has just been speculation by the fans revolving around the possible return of the Year of the Gobbler event we had last year.

Mostly because the thing that you're asking about in the topic title is a result of the existence of the Chinese zodiac system, this year being the year of the dog, and a Year Of The Gobbler event being done for the year of the rooster last year.

I know this already lol but thanks tho lol

Well, I looked it up and apparently the Year of the Dog starts on February 16th--not only not this month, but past Valentine's Day!  So on the one hand, the devs still have time to figure out what to do.  Which is always good.

...on the other hand, it'll probably run smack into the actual Valentine's Day thing, so that should be interesting.  : P

As you can see, this tells us that last year Valentine's was AFTER Chinese New Year, because Willow is already wearing a Clucky Hat while testing out her new swoon emote.  (Unfortunately the arrow'd heart isn't also in this picture.  :\)  Chinese New Year is a "moveable feast"; aka it's not on the same day every year.  It's like how we sometimes have Easter in April...sometimes in March.  Only earlier.  No, there wasn't an Easter event for DST last year either, before you ask.

(Yes, last year that was a thing.  Briefly.  If you see someone making a telltale heart with arrows sticking out of it or doing the --swoon-- emote, that's where they got it from.  I think it was if you logged in during the _week_ of Valentine's Day, not just the day itself.)

Last year we didn't get a Western-style January 1st New Year's at all, so I wasn't expecting one.  New Year's in Don't-Starve-Land is pretty much just the late part of Winter's Feast.  (shrug)

Here’s a hot tip for you, kid: Don’t believe every random thing you see posted on the Internet. Consider the source. Where did you “see” that there would be a Year of the Varg event? Was it in some random forum post here, writtten by someone who does not work for Klei and has no way of knowing what their plans are, someone just talking out of their you-know-what about what they’d like an event to be?

It was. That’s an excellent sign that there is no good reason to think that such an event is planned. There was a Chinese New Year event last year. There may be another Chinese NewYear event this year. But there may not be one! We don’t know.

Please then take the skepticism you’ve learned to apply to this silly little video game forum and use it when you’re reading about important, real-life matters online. We really need more people who can tell the difference between good and bad information on the Internet—or more importantly, people who can tell the difference between good information and no information at all.

DST's New Year's = ONE winter chest...

I mean, they brought out the Winter update, which probably took them a decent amount of time to make, so if they were doing every single holiday, the updates would be trash, and would probably make the game worse.

But the games still good and since they take time on the updates, it makes it even better.

You didn’t say you’d seen people talking about it. You said you “seen... where it’ll be like a month of increased hounds”:
