HomShaBom Posted December 11, 2017 Share Posted December 11, 2017 Can you disinfect water that has food poisoning germs in it by pumping chlorine gas into the water tank? I tried to do it to find the answer for myself, but a regular gas vent would not pump gas into the tank at all. I was going to try with a high pressure gas vent, but that requires plastic and i haven't found any oil to refine into plastic yet. GuyPerfect Posted December 11, 2017 Share Posted December 11, 2017 From what I understand, Chlorine only disinfects buildings and resources. Even if you mix in Chlorine with a pocket of germy Polluted Oxygen, it won't kill the germs. An unconventional way to get germs off of resources is to build with them and then disinfect them. With the advent of Ice Sculpture, this technically becomes possible with water. Swimming pools don’t use elemental  chlorine to kill germs.  It uses sodium hypochlorite. Foefaller Posted December 12, 2017 Share Posted December 12, 2017 IIRC the best way to clean germy water is to either basically pasteurize the clean water by heating above Food Poisoning's temperature range (which Chlorine *can* help with, thanks to it's thermodynamic properties) or use the germy (polluted) water in something that won't get into the food supply, like Electrolyzers, water for Thimble Reeds, or a fertilizer synthesizer (which will also make natural gas, which you can pump into a NG generator to make polluted water again; this time germ-free. Albeit at a rate of something like 450g of germy polluted water for every 67.5g of "clean" polluted water.) Also, to extend your water use, you want to make sure you keep separate tanks for polluted water from your bathrooms and polluted water from anything else; slimelung dies very quickly outside of polluted oxygen and slime, so as long as you give it a cycle or so even the water that came straight from algae distillers or Slime Biome will become safe to use. After he builds a room full of them he realizes the the cold has already killed all of the germs.
