The Forge and why you probably failed your last run

The Forge is a pretty difficult mode if your team lacks coordination, but as I've seen with various matches, failure more often than not comes from the following problems.

A) A Lack of Focus Fire/ Spreading Damage too thin.

The Forge PUNISHES any team that is unable to focus fire on enemies. Not only does spreading the damage too thin against enemies who will always outnumber a bad idea, it also means enemies like the Snortoise and Boarilla will use their more dangerous abilities at lower hp more often and for much longer. Spreading out that damage instead of focusing fire on weaker enemies means that there will be more dangerous enemies doing dangerous abilities and more pressure on your healer to keep you topped up. Focus firing as a team lets you deal with targets quickly and removes the danger.

B) A Lack of Crowd Control/ Attacking Stunned Enemies

Crowd Control is vital against the large waves of enemies you fight. Keeping half of the enemy team out of the fight will greatly increase your odds of survival. Attacking targets that are already stunned will only earn your frustration and a quick death. Also, the Healing Staff doubles as a Crowd Control and should be respected as such. Luring enemies to the healing circle to let them sleep while your team heals will greatly increase your odds of survival against tougher waves.

As well, although the petrification tome works very well against normal enemies, boss monsters will quickly break out of petrification. Your team needs to rely on the healing staff's crowd control if you want to make it through to the end.

C) A Lack of Kiting/ Attacking Kited Enemies

Powerful Enemies like the Boarilla and the Boarrior can wreak havoc on an enemy team still busy focus on normal monsters. Making sure you have one person luring the bosses away from the other mobs will not only make sure the bosses will not be attacking your team, but as well will make sure that they don't end up being damaged too much to start using their more damaging abilities.

However, if you see a mob being kited, DON'T attack them. The worst thing that can happen in your run is when the Kiter lures the boss too close and a player ends up attacking them and taking aggro away from the Kiter and onto the rest of the team.

D) Equipment Mismatching/ Forgetting your Role

Gear dropped during a Forge run is vital to your success. So when you have your non-healer grabbing an increased healing dealt garland or a non-kiter grabbing the speed hat, you're making it worse for the rest of your team. Remember what role you're taking at the start of game and plan your equipment accordingly. Make sure everyone is equipped for their role and not to just grab an item off the ground because you saw it first.

E) Expecting too much from a Player/ Not Spreading Roles enough

The role you decide to go through in a match of the Forge should be the role that you pick. However, expecting people to pull double duty can lead to having a player trying to do too much in too little time. One notable example is the idea is combining the role of rezzer and healer. Unlike other games, where those two roles are connected together, the Forge doesn't share that same distinction. The rezzer should always prioritize rezzing, and having them heal as well means that if that player goes down, you lose two roles at once. By ensuring that the roles are spread around so that losing one player doesn't mean a huge loss of team ability, you can prevent a dangerous domino effect of inevitable failure.

F) Bad Team Composition/ Gear Starvation

Different characters do different things and are able to use different items. Ending up in a team with plenty of DPS but no one capable of kiting or tanking or even healing will quickly end your Forge run. As well, the different item usage for your teams can lead to certain characters lacking better gear choices for different rounds, reducing their utility and adaptability. If your team has a Wickerbottom or Maxwell, consider letting them use either the healing staff or Inferno staff, to ensure they can provide extra team utility as the match goes on.

G) Communication/ Miscommunication

Though the Forge does not have the best way to communicate with other players, communicating between waves can help coordinate a team better. Especially at the beginning before everyone selects their character, by being able to communicate what each player plans to do and what gear they'll need will help ease any problems faced in the match itself.

These have been my observations from various failed matches of the Forge, and seeing the little mistakes that build up over time. By making sure these little mistakes can be quickly fixed and prevented from building up, hopefully you will be able to finally beat the Grand Forge Boarrior and get that elusive victory.

And if you've already gotten a victory? Good for you and hopefully these tips and advice can help make future victories easier and quicker to get.

And do you have tips on how to get a good team? :p

Do you have friends? Because unfortunately actually getting a good team is as much to the rng as getting elegants from your gift boxes. Hopefully with time, more and more people will realize what they're doing wrong and get better at it. If not though...

I was once playing Wilson as the teams healer, then a Wendy decided it would be a wonderful Idea to play healer instead of the healer. It didn't end well.

Let's be honest, it really didn't matter. Both character's don't have perks that benefit healing. It likely ended badly due to other reasons (such as bad communication for example).

Wow, thank you for this great guide!

Could I share your guide on a Chinese forum, please? I will attach the link to here in the post there. Thanks. :p

Oh I say that's perfectly fine. More people who have a better idea on what to do the better it is for everyone. Spread the knowledge far and wide!

From my games A is the most annoying one especially if people insist on attacking random stuff on their own. If you can't reach double boarilla wave that is the reason most of the time.

B wipes your runs on Boarrior and double Boarilla, The rest not so much and most teams can get by (But not finish the run).

You're probably right. It might've been the fact that everyone kept hitting the sleeping ape monster.
