What do you know about petrified evergreens?

Hello. I have questions and the wiki doesn't help me. I get the point behind petrified trees and it is great (renewable rocks, nitre and flints). I also know it starts after few seasons ; theres a sound, a character quote and it happens. I wonder, is it just me or this act like a disease? Like, if I do not break them, it kinda infects the other ones around? Will the forest get all petrified after a while? Is there a way to prevent it to happen? Do you have any tips I wouldn't be aware?

Yep, petrification is pretty much disease for trees. It can and will spread if left unchecked. Unlike disease however, this is actually a useful mechanic as it provides a new source of rocks. As for prevention, there's not much you can do. Just like disease. If you want to stop it then you have to catch it early and remove any petrified trees.

Well... it's kind of impossible to prevent. It just happened once that I actually witnessed a tree get petrified, and in under less than a second another did, and another, and another... Point is, you can't really prevent it. It's mostly a good thing though, since most players tend to make their own tree farms instead of visiting a forest for wood.

I don't think I've yet heard the sound or read the quote...at least...that I remember?  But I DO remember my world that had an _insanely_ petrified forest.  It was densely packed, and a BIG part of it got petrified by only a couple years in...to the point where I had a hard time walking through it until I got my pickaxe...and a spider nest was completely trapped!  This one poor spider came out of the nest, tried to go the default direction, and just kept...walking and walking and walking and walking, endlessly against the stone tree...

(salutes) Keep on, brave little spider.  You'll wear that rock down someday.  : P

Anyway yeah--mine them down and then plant normal trees in their place, is all I can think of.  (shrug)

In my 400+ day world most of the large forests are about 70% petrified... I plan to take Bearger for a walk!

This is a blessing.... do you have any idea how hard it is to get a steady stream of rocks? Petrification is one of the BEST things in the game. I wish there was such an easy way to get grass tufts back as well...

Get some pals and do some cave rattlin'.

More players leads to more rocks/resources fallen.

Ok good. I have the information I wanted, it does spread like a disease. I very much like this mechanic (like I said), but some area I dont want to petrification to spread.  Somebody knows the spread radius may be?

Grass tufts...? Ever heard of gekko grass farm, mate? Also rocks are ezpz if you spank dat dragon ass and freeze some lavae afterwards. Then let her despawn and rinse and repeat... Kind of like with just farming scales. Idk why people don't like to use this method as much late game at all.
