Don't Starve Together - So Interesting

Wilson. I might do Wickerbottom and Webber(Haven't found his skull yet) later but I haven't even gotten to Spring yet.

I would like to know your base and pictures and stuff to help but I'll do little so you don't get overwhelmed and I still want you to figure whats best for you (oh that sounds cheesy)

anyway I assume your in winter you do not need the pig if you have boomerang to hit when it flees Koalphants are really close to beefalo the only difference is that they hit harder. so you are able to hit them 4 to 5 before you have to retreat for their attack if you have a hambat the phant will go down in two exchanges sorry if that is wrong I'm not used to a normal damage output this is an assumption. also if the mob is hostile you can press the F key and your character will automatically attack the closest hostile target. that way you only have to click once to initiate a fight if mob is neutral.

Also another tip a beefalo and elephant both have a charge and attack animation they can not instantly attack you until enough time has passed to do the attack animation so don't be afraid to hit a beef or elephant in the middle of its charge you won't get all your hits on it but some damage is better then no damage.

Webber and wickerbottom I think are good picks  but they deal with sanity issues more so webber because his max sanity is only 100

sry if that's too much infomation I don't mean to sound like a teacher telling you a strict way to play the game.

At the moment I'm doing art for my webcomic but in my short time playing the game, one of my current goals to get reeds to make a dartgun. Due to hounds eating a cardinal, I managed to get a red feather, so that should help. Though I should really trap winter birds for a better effect.

if all you want are feathers use a boomerang or use the feathers to make a feather hat that increase the spawn rate of birds as well as giving sanity and if your lucky your kill enough birds for a krampus spawn to get the krampus sack but you rather get struck with lightining sleep darts are also good for avoiding fights athough bosses take about 4-5 darts but they can be made any season.

Huh!  For some reason, I always assumed you'd been playing the game for longer than that, Minespatch!  (And yes, that's a compliment.  :)) I could give you some of my own early-days tips...although I'm sure a lot of them would be laughed at.  But here's some anyway.  : P

1.  Make an axe and a pickaxe as soon as possible--when you mine a rock you always get more flint, so that can help stop the "WHERE'S THE FLINT?!" problem, at least for a good while. Savannahs often have non-gold rocks.

2.  ALWAYS.  HAVE.  GRASS. Always.  It's needed for so many things--including, of course, the basic don't-die-at-night fire.  And twigs.

3.  If you are caught without stuff for a campfire, make a torch or run between fireflies.  If available.  In a pinch, if your only torch is almost dead...set a tree on fire!  It'll burn a decent amount of time. Try not to set trees next to saplings, berry bushes, grass tufts etc. on fire, though, as those are non-renewable.

4.  A savannah with lots of rabbit holes is a good place to set up early--it's a source of morsels for crockpot meals, small jerky, and rabbit earmuffs for winter.  But it won't work in the spring 'cos the holes close up, so also know where your nearest patch o' ponds is.

5.  Prioritize a crockpot and drying racks fairly early on--one gives you more filling meals, the other gives you smaller food that helps restore health and sanity by a decent amount.

6.  Living near beefalo is a good idea--but you don't wanna live TOO close...

7. There's no shame in not fighting hounds one on one, once the attacks get quite large.  Especially if you're alone on the server.  The beefalo can work for them, as can pigs (if they're still awake!), and even spiders or bees if you're careful.  The early-days attacks, however, you _can_ probably just tank with a logsuit and spear.

8.  If you find a touchstone, bring along a hammer to break down the pig heads!  Free pigskins for (among other things) umbrellas (help in both spring AND summer) and football helmets.  Also you can steal the fancy wooden flooring with a pitchfork.  :D

9.  Deserts are also your friend.  In winter or summer, _tumblweeds still ALWAYS have twigs and/or grass_.  Cactus is great--it restores sanity and is more filling than a green mushroom.  Put on your armour before picking it though!

10.  If you can find a swamp, _carefully_ pick reeds and make a birdcage.  Cooked monster meat = eggs, and eggs can make some really good foods.  Beat up?  Make pierogis and restore a whopping FORTY Hp at once!  You can also do the feed-the-bird-the-dragonfruit-to-get-more-dragonfruit-seeds thing.

11.  Silk is another very useful crafting material.  Always know where spiders are--but don't go nuts killing them if you're not ready.  Never attack a spider ON the webbing itself if you can manage it--it makes them swarm you!

12.  It's kinda cheaty, but ice can be used as a filler ingredient in winter.  Monster meat from the hound attacks + ice can give you meatballs for the whole season.  Also make sure you make a thermal stone!

13.  If a frog rain starts up in spring, start making rabbit traps/grabbing existing ones and placing them around yourself.  DO NOT ATTACK THEM.  If you attack even _one_ frog they _all_ jump you, so you can see how that wouldn't go well in this case...  Better yet, stand in the middle of your tooth-trap area if you have one.

14.  Put said tooth-trap field AWAY FROM YOUR CAMP--fire hounds.  Fire always spreads a _little_ further than you think it will.  Also build, eventually, both types of firepit there. Hounds loooove them some night attacks.

14.  When you hear creepy heavy breathing in winter, GET AWAY FROM CAMP! What you do after that is up to you (and in the first year you won't have many resources yet).

15.  Megabases look cool, but I'd say that if a resource such as a berry bush is already nearby, _don't pick up and move EVERYTHING_.  The first time there's a major fire, you'll be glad you didn't!  Also:  LIGHTNING ROD.  Definitely.  I play in a kind of hippy-dippy minimalistic exploring and gathering kind of way...and I dunno, I think it seems to work kinda well.  Also staves off boredom in winter/summer.

16.  Last but not least, when mining, _don't just leave the nitre on the ground_.  Your summer self will thank you for it.  And as soon as your character starts wiping their brow in spring, prototype a small endo fire!  Never know when you'll suddenly need to make one.

...or, most people here will say to live in the caves.  Whatever.  : P

Almost every tip here will get refuted with "That isn't efficient" "You should just be badass and kite them" "Real pro players NEVER do that!" but...we're talking _basics_ here, for a beginning player.  He can learn more advanced stuff involving ruins-obtained items, magic, and fancy footwork later.  :)   I've played this way for most of my playtime and have made it 500 days.  With a small base, in a world with 40-day winters AND 50-day springs every year.  So there's gotta be _some_thing to these strategies, right?

we, the year-round cave-dwellers, take exception to this.

the underdark is glorious without the petty turning of the days and seasons to distract one from the mysteries of thulecite. learn to embrace the subtle beauty of fields of glowberries, the mysterious chimes of the mush-forests, the majestic rays of the nightmare cycle, the sinister rumblings of depths worms.

however, for surviving above ground, this is an excellent primer.

Aww, thanks.  :)  And I have nothing AGAINST cave-dwellers/dwelling.  I was just saying _I'm_ not qualified to talk about it.  Heh.

...although, frankly, the idea of living in a place where you can hardy ever see all around you--in THIS game!--kinda gives me the willies...Give me as much warning as possible as to when something's gonna kill me, thank you!

Also...I LIKE the turning of the seasons--even the annoying ones! There's something kind beautiful and soothing about seeing the leaves change, the snow fall, the hot sun come back again...and I'm also talking about real life.  (Where I live now had ungodly hot summer days (weeks!) AND ungodly cold winter days in the same year, so I can only assume I'm living in some weird real-world cul-de-sac of the RoG realm.  : P  I mean, my cat DOES kinda look like a catcoon...)

I'd totally try the caves more if I had some good people to play with, more often.  As it is, I quite often end up playing alone aaaand...don't think I'm ready for it.  It's kinda weird, really, how much of a sunlight dweller I am in this game--when in real life I'm a pale night-owl who leaves the house as little as possible... (I'm one of those people who does not tan at all but goes _straight_ to burn.  Heh.)

Bear in mind, the above tips would also work for _singleplayer_, pretty much.  I started off on that and to this day, in Together, I still kind of have crotchety-old-bachelor style habits.  Which has both good and bad sides.  : P
