Is Lucy Real?

Recommended Posts

I was digging all of the character's speech files and noticed some patterns there

Most of the character's somehow refer to Lucy as a real person

Are the all just mad?

Or they're just being nice to Woody?

And I got super spooked when Maxwell act like he knew Lucy

He could be referring to when greeted Woodie in DS

Or Maybe there is a bigger conspiracy that lead to the reason why Woody was taken to the world

Spoiler

My theory is that Lucy was in fact a real person, She was Woodie's romantic partner

Then Woodie for some reason contracted the Werebeaver curse while at work

He lost control and Killed Lucy, That is when he gone Insane and started referring his axe as his dead partner

Then after some time Maxwell got in contact with Woodie

Maxwell promised to remove Woodie's curse and bring back Lucy from the dead

Woodie of course being so desperate, trusted Maxwell and followed his instruction to build the portal

No, it's my legitimate answer.
Yes, other characters can definitely hear Lucy talk and she was probably a real person too.

Unless that is, you wanted a crazy conspiracy theory.

Spoiler

Assuming that Woodie is a non-canon character, he could very well have been deceived into the island of Don't Starve like Wilson. Woodie is a stereotypical Canadian treechopping lumberjack. He's got that plaid shirt and lumberjack beard on point. (Also his diction when he uses words such as "eh?" and "buddy") He may have been a social outcast (He is paranoid of birds, and also eats wood meals). Perhaps he also had a loved one named Lucy and Maxwell used these bits of information to say something along the lines of "Say pal, I could offer you a whole new world with trees as far as the eye can see. You'll even be able to take Lucy with you. No one would judge you and you'd have all the freedom you could imagine." So naturally, Woodie accepts this proposal and gets sucked into the world of Don't Starve. His Werebeaver curse may have been a result of Maxwell's magic. (As we can see from Charlie, the nightmare throne can do some pretty neat things, like give people rose skins) Woodie was probably a test dummy for Maxwell, he wanted to try out his nightmare magic (he was a former magician which shows his interest in magic).

Maxwell when examining Werebeaver Woodie
BEAVER = "Ha! What a delightful curse.",

This may also be the reason why Woodie openly insults Maxwell.

Woodie when examining Maxwell
GENERIC = "Hey %s, how you doin' ya big hoser?",

This is going off the assumption that Woodie is a non-canon character and we're still following single player logic.

Although I don't have any evidence that Woodie is a canon character, going off the assumption that he is, I would think it'd be something like this

Spoiler

As we know from the Cyclum puzzle (hooray for the tragic torch skin!) Wilson and Maxwell build the Jury-Rigged Portal together. Soon after its completion, Charlie replaced it with the Florid Postern which Wendy, Wes, and Wolfgang were transported into the island from. All three of these characters presumably have close relations with Maxwell. Wendy is speculated to be Maxwell's niece, and both Wes and Wolfgang were apart of the traveling circus that Maxwell performed for. This means that these characters also have some relation to Charlie, as she was Maxwell's assistant. Stemming off of this pattern, Woodie must have some some of connection to Maxwell or Charlie. The real world doesn't seem to have any real magic, which is why Maxwell became so famous. He found the Codex Umbra which contained real shadow magic. Maxwell could have cursed Woodie (for whatever reason) and that's his relation to Maxwell. Or maybe They (the shadows) were the ones who cursed Woodie (They must have had some way to influence/connect to the real world if the Codex Umbra exists) and because Charlie sits on the nightmare throne, They forced Charlie to bring Woodie into the world of Don't Starve.

But this is all just some crazy conspiracy someone on the interest typed up, so who knows.

What about the postcard of Jack Carter with a big orange? Do you think he is somehow related to Woodie?

And I was born there!  As was my brother. But to get back on topic, of _course_ Lucy is real...before Together, that was a bit up in the air, but now that we've confirmed that _other characters totally can hear her_, yes.  She is.

Not sure about the "Woodie went crazy and murdered somebody" thing or the "He's connected to Maxwell and/or Charlie in some way" thing, _but_, I have always thought Lucy was the spirit of somebody he deeply cared about that ended up inhabiting his axe.  OR, he projected his loss for the original Lucy so hard that his axe _became_ sentient once he got to the Don't Starve world, ala belief making things real in Discworld.

Part of my main theory about the characters as a whole involves that kind of thing, after all...those who got the "strange new powers" just had whatever they were already really obsessed with..._sharpened_ into an actual power or physical change once they got here...(Willow going from "average" pyromaniac to completely immune to fire and able to apparently start fires with her _mind_ without realising she can ('cos it only ever happens when she's insane!) being another great example.*)

...Notorious

*What?  You say neither of those things are true in Together?  I have no idea what you're talking about (pushes the "Willow the Firestarter" mod behind her back with her toe and stands in front of it, whistling).  None at all.
