Will you guys stop on the whole "crafting" thing? It's says adopt. ADOPT. You guys are driving me crazy (Get it? Because I was insane when I took the screenshot...).

So... Doesn't that mean the player is not just the adoptee but also the parent...? :wilson_shocked:

Naming it something else doesn't change what it is.

The biggest issue for me with pets (as much as I enjoy them aesthetically) is that they have no 'food bar' like other animals you can capture do.  Not only that, but they run away from you (or at least they do in my games) when you try to feed them.  Take today for example, in the middle of battling a toadstool (because the @%#'s come with you even when you try to lock them in a pen) and the spouse's catcoon kept being a pain in the a$$ over food, only to run away whenever the spouse tried to feed it.

Do they die if you don't feed them?  Because I was close to trying to kill it just to shut it up.  Took six pieces of meat before it stopped running away.  A food bar would be fantastic to know how much food I'm wasting on what should have been something cute and aesthetic.  At least a bird gives me things when I cage it & feed it.

So how do you define what is it ? Because maybe you attract the animal with meat and something smelling like his kin (for kittycoon for example), so how can you tell it's crafting ?

They run away during fights. So the Toadstool caused them to run in that instance.

Not true?  I've been mining rocks and my vargling still runs away until I feed it.  During this battle, my vargling was rolling around and just watching, spouse's catcoon ran away until it was fed enough, then sat and watched the damn shroom tree's burn literally right beside it.

I just want them to integrate them into gameplay, other than being just another recipe.

You know, up till now, I was pretty convinced that the way pets were added right now was mainly for testing purposes - an easy way to get the things now so we can see about their A.I. and animations and stuff, so that eventually, they could all be reassigned to their true purposes elsewhere in the game.

But the idea of introducing pet skins seems just a bit too plausible. If that's what this is all about, I'm going to give you Klei guys a very stern disappointed glare. >:(

Well then, pets are out of beta, have skins and the rock den was in the trailer so it seems like they were indeed planning to implement them like that. As I said before I don't have a problem with pets being invincible and mostly cosmetic but the rock den still feels so out of place to me and I would prefer if they would've made it so we have to find and feed them near their parents to get them. And to anyone arguing that the rock den is needed for skins, they'll probably have to add a way to change the skin of pets after obtaining them anyway because having to sacrifice another lavae egg after getting the broodling skin would be pretty stupid.
