My thoughts on the new Pets feature

Except when you feed them Glow Berries, they're useless.

 

Someone mentioned that, as the coding indicates, Klei is planning for a raising system for pets, which will mold their personality conform the raising method, pretty much like the Beefalos. That is ******* awesome and I hope it means that pets will grow into adulthood.

 

But in the meanwhile, they are good for nothing, so here I lay my suggestions for What Pets Should Do Other Than Annoyingly Cry When Hungry:

Drop something

Yea, simple as that. Pretty much like Glommer, pets should also drop a little something once in a while. Here are the ideas:

Kittykit

Kittykit should simply cough some Rot every few days, like the Catcoon does.

Vargling

Dogs like to dig holes and hide bones, don't they? The Vargling should have a digging animation and spawn a Bone Shard every once in a while.

Ewelet

Not as mucusy as its momma, but still mucusy! Phlegm for everyone!

Broodling

Since this one is a bit trickier to craft, it should drop something a little nicer, right? How about something similar to those tufts of fur that the Bearger drops? Some pieces of Scales than can be used to Craft a real Scale? Or just some Ashes if that's too much trouble.

Glomglom

A smaller version of Glommer's goop. That's it.

Sanity Aura

It's not a secret that people are happier when they have animal companions, so should the mighty Survivors of the Don't Starve world. Pets should emanate a sanity aura equal to the Garland. It's a little something and it's not too much.

 

So, what are you thought on this? Should it be just temporary Pet  features while they're working on the real thing? Should it be full time features? Should not be featured at all? Speak your minds and thanks for the attention.

I really like this idea of the pets dropping items infrequently, I think the Glomglom should drop a goopy equivalent of golden doubloons in SW - ie a different item with a potential 'function' (not sure what it would be?) that can also be turned into glommer goop with 2-3 of them xD

Shouldn't kittykit cough up a hairball type thing (it is a cat lol) - maybe the bearger fluff or something

The broodling could maybe drop a hot item of sorts or make a maybe it sheds its skin to give a 'mini-scales'? xD

Totally agree with the sanity aura, however isn't it kind of nullified if you already have a glommer hanging about since its sanity aura is much larger?

I'm with Richdewsnap, nice art! You should make a thread of other doodles you do.

Anyways, onto the topic, giving the animals diverse qualities to give them tools/assets to help the player would boost their usefulness. Thanks so much for prompting these concepts to people who play.

I like the idea of sanity aura. But I think it should be less than that of a garland.

joke aside they do drop rot

only that there is a small probability for them to drop rot

 

I have no problem with the idea of pet offering item time to time, but i really think that the item should not be "too" good, because people that will choose a pet for the look should not feel like they have a bad drop. So not something too good for the Broodling, and part of scale is too good for me.

Ashes will be a little too sad, so best thing would be something a little more valuable but not that much. I'm not sure charcoal could be enough, late game (for me it's more useful than ash, but i could understand that some players prefer ash).

 

Also, every pet could give you a trinket time to time if they are happy enough (small chance)
