Easy Dragonfly Kill? Hibernation?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i was looking up the dragonfly on the dont starve wiki,  was reading all about it and watching videos of people killing it in DST (which is much more entertaining as a group, though people make it seem like a piece of cake solo). And then i came upon this point and i was interested.

  • In Don't Starve Together, Dragonflies may "hibernate" in winter, making it possible to kill them without danger.

i tried to look up "dragonfly hibernation" and similar youtube searches, but i couldnt find anything. Is this a true fact? Can anyone confirm?

i dont get exactly what they mean. Like by the wiki stating "kill them without danger" does this mean that the dragonfly is in eternal sleep and you can just beat on it until its health drops to 0? I couldnt find any further information.

i wanted to see if any of you have ever experienced this. Because i went to visit its area one winter and it just wasnt there. Then another time i saw it and it was awake and everything, like any other season.

So I read where you saw that, it's listed under "bugs" for the dragonfly page on the wiki. I've never experienced this in DST but mind you that this page is for the dragonfly for both dont starves, not just DST. I don't have much single player experience, but I imagine because the fly is a seasonal boss in single player that its mechanics work differently for how it hangs around and behaves.

The wiki could simply be wrong.

Yerp. It's wrong all the time, here's an example.

either this is insanely rare or the wiki's dead wrong on this, as I've never seen this happen in either game despite filling him with them on travels.

If someone's got proof of this, please show it.

On topic however, I've gone for the dragonfly plenty of times during winter, and have never seen such a thing.

If it ever was a thing, I think it must have been removed. Hutch does need lightbulbs for transformations.

This was (maybe still is) a real thing in DS. I remember placing the fireflies in and out of chester in beta or something, because it worked like 50% of time.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I think it was a regular chest, not chester. I don't know...

Let's not forget the "Torches give heat" lie.

Yeah.. I have a faint memory of this working with regular chests in early versions of DS, so it might have been a thing at one point.

Yeah, I can definitively say "no" on the Dragonfly hibernation thing. On my last world before this one, in fact, I was exploring the desert one winter night (as you do) and to make a long story short...the Deerclops spawned in when I was right by the lava pools!  I didn't stick around to watch, but there was definitely a giant-fight.  Frankly, I was just happy I had been so far away from my base when he showed up.  : P

...Notorious

Actually, according to torch.lua:

    inst:AddComponent("heater")
    inst.components.heater.equippedheat = 5

...it just gives very little heat.

This used to be the case in single player.  They have since removed that
