Griefers abusing vote kick, is something being done about this?

Recommended Posts

This problem is here for a long time already, and nothing changed. Just 10 minutes ago, I was playing with group of friendly players, and we were all kicked by same griefers that target offical dst servers for a while. This was reported by multiple people, yet nothing is being done to fix the problem, I am honestly sick of this.

Clouds - At this point I don't even care about name shaming, because I saw this name in multiple threads, many people suffered from this griefer and his friends (or bots), yet nothing changed.

Why I think it may be bot? Because it follows certain, very specific pattern.

1. Clouds + other "players" (Eni, Just) joins server when it has 5 or less players, Clouds joins as Willow, others immediately die.

2. Starts spamming vote kick on random players.

3. When someone manages to start vote kick on him before he does (stupid system without any delay on starting vote allows that), he immediately writes ";)" on chat. I managed to do it multiple times and each time result was the same, always same message. He also leaves about 10 seconds before vote is finished to avoid kick and immediately rejoins.

4. When unable to pass votes, even more day1 bots join server to help him pass vote

5. After all actual players are kicked, they regenerate world and leave.

What pisses me off about this, is that it can be easily fixed, but Klei refuses to acknowledge the problem.

1. Do not allow freshly joined players to start any votes.

2. Do not allow avoiding kick vote by simply leaving the server.

3. Show nickname of person that starts vote.

4. Put cooldown that stops people from spamming votes.

(Optional) 5. Remove regenerate the world option from survival servers.

Here is short video I made. Sadly I couldn't record entire thing because I didn't have time to set it up properly (quickly downloaded fraps while this was happening).

I think I am going to take a break from dst until this is fixed, this is simply because game is unplayable right now because of that utterly crap voting system. I love the game, I love the developers, but some things like that need urgent changing. You allow individual players ruin fun of many good people that bought your game.

you can disabled vote kick on dedicated server

but maybe you are not admin of this serverN

This doesn't help with the Klei Official servers.

I do agree with most points the OP made. This is a serious problem that is ofputting for so many players. This is also the main reason I avoid the official servers.

I know Klei isn't that big, but I'm sure they can think of a solution.

This is the major problem. This system in place does more harm than good. It can easily be avoided by anyone who knows how and has gotten nothing but negative feedback since it's been implemented. Klei, when are you going to tell us your opinion?? This "Cloud" person specifically has been named constantly for the past few weeks and still this is happening, still the same broken system, still no word.

Be aware that even changes in the vote system aren't necessarily the solution, at least again Clouds, I'm going to copy my reply from another thread:

"I also encountered Clouds, this time in a server with kicking and rerolling disabled so he burned our base, we made another underground and he used all his accounts (because it was winter and it was difficult for him to reach our base without materials or things stolen from our bases) to enter and burn that also, Eni and a third account called Just are just some of his many accounts. I made a report to Steam but I think a lot of people have reported him (see the comments in his Just account) and nothing has happend to him :s"

With so many mentions of Clouds maybe he should be the first player that Klei officially bans from the online servers...

This would be more than justifed..

But changes I propose would pretty much solve the problem. People that already know him would be able to kick him right away and keep him out of server, if he wouldn't be able to avoid kick or spam votes.

Multiple accounts is the problem tho. It blows my mind that there is someone out there which sole profession is to grief servers with his setup and strategy, this is just beyond pathetic.

But even more than this, lack of official response annoys me the most. This topic was brought up SO MANY times in last weeks.

A friend pointed out this comment yesterday which may explain the multiple users/accounts. By their own admission they have obtained them illegally or are using a program/code. I agree there has to be a more permanent solution, wont be long until the next person comes along and whats to stop them from creating other accounts even after being officially banned.

Play on the "ClayFish was here!" Server and add me on steam, I can moderate the server for you and your friends, as I am always online.

I don't know a lot about steam rules but isn't the acquisition of illegal software reason enough for a ban? They could track his IP address or something like that, I know Clouds could use a proxy to circumvent the ban but at least he'll get a lot of lag in these hypothetical new accounts.

Don't play on the official servers and join ones that have actual mods on them? Ezpz way to avoid/deal with trolls. Gingerbread servers are nice when I played DST more, there's usually an admin on and there's a report system where they ban griefers if there is solid proof.

If you buy DST you get an extra copy you can give away for free to a friend, in his case he most likely got 2x DST and gave away the free copy to another account he made, hence the 4 accounts.

So nothing illegal there, he was just mocking you.
