ScootyPuffJr Posted July 28, 2016 Share Posted July 28, 2016 Hi, I wanted to suggest that you add some sort of report functionality, at least to the official servers! It is currently far too easy for a troll, or a troll and a buddy or two to join a server, burn/hammer a base, steal as much valuable stuff as possible and/or kick out normal players, all without any repercussion because they know they will never receive more than a temporary kick. Just today, a couple of people tried doing this and while one of them was so blatant about it he got kicked before doing anything, the other managed to keep their mouth shut for long enough that they were able to destroy an entire base, then laugh about it and spew racial slurs into the chat. There weren't enough people on the server that we could get a successful kick vote and eventually a vote to reset the server got passed, completely destroying everyone's progress and granting the troll just about as absolute of a victory as is possible. I don't think it would be too difficult to be able to report these people by their steam ID's and have someone at Klei review the server logs, at least for really blatant trolling. People that gloat about it in chat and swear and use racial slurs shouldn't be tolerated, and I'm kind of shocked that the fine people at Klei seem to have washed their hands of this issue. I don't think anyone would want their game to be known for fostering this sort of behavior, but as it is, regular players have no recourse on the official servers. There is no moderation, either, so there's nobody there who can issue a warning, kick, or ban obvious griefers. To clarify, I'm only suggesting this for the official servers, or at most an optional thing if private servers want to opt-in and help contribute to whatever sort of blacklist would be built up. Whether it is a system that would be built into the game itself (might be easiest at least for players) or a way to report people on the website, I think it would help to weed out the most obviously toxic people that can make the game less fun to play. Obviously private servers may have differing standards and what may be griefing to most people wouldn't necessarily be considered as such on some servers. PS - I know there are some methods that can be used to combat griefers but most of them are not only more trouble to obtain than the average player is capable of in a short amount of time but are also as apt to be used for griefing purposes as they are to counter griefing. I don't think that sort of vigilante style is really a proper substitute for having some way of reporting these people. Although I have to admit that this would take a lot more effort than just burning down something and causing a chain reaction. Still, some griefers go to great lengths to cause havoc. Basically anything that interacts with the world has the potential to be abused. If doing things unjustly/crossing the line (i.e. banning someone merely for their bad language on a server) just because it makes you feel better is what you're resorting to, that's not being reasonable. Calling Captain unreasonable for wanting to do something more than muting someone that has driven away people of their server? What even? You want to stay in a server where the mood is constantly ruined by a person that thinks 'jokes' like that are funny, be my guest, but I can assure you, most of the population does not feel like that. How you would even be interested in letting a person like that play on your server, your own personal server you have worked on, played on, is beyond me. Even if he was muted. Here how about Goerge Carlin for you: Banning somebody who is simply saying something bad isn't going to bring up the moods of others. It'll just make you seem like a sensitive scumbag who wants to punch people in the gut for saying something that they don't like. The only difference from muting and banning will be that the player will still be on the server playing. Either way you will not hear what the other player is saying, you won't be offended and your little fuzzy fantasy world filled of a mind will be happy and cheerful again. Unless they start griefing, though bad language doesn't always indicate that the person is a griefer. I for one have never griefed, but if **** comes to **** on a server, I might explode (not make **** jokes, but text wise "shouting my guts out at somebody who's being a scumbag, like a griefer or a troll"). Not a reason to ban me, just mute me as me as a player you might even be better off with me being there since I'm helping out. If chatting wasn't even a feature in the game, this discussion would not even exist and even somebody who wants to say **** jokes to others but is friendly in terms of gameplay would not be banned. This is why I find banning people for saying rude stuff unjust. Just mute them. And if you're still unsatisfied, pleed for Klei to add a global mute, where the host mutes somebody from talking completely. Happy? You have made very clear that you are not one of those people that is easily offended, point very well taken, but you don't seem to accept that there are other people playing this game that actually want a pleasant experience. And as I said, muting sometimes is not enough. Not your fault if your world is so dark and grimm you needed to make peace with the fact that there are people out to ruin your experience and actually succeeded in turning off all of your personal (how did you call it, fuzzy?) emotions, but I for one, will not. Personal preference. (Maybe important in this case, the person in question wasn't helping out, other than making said comments and stepping over the line eventually.) What, and banning someone who spews all that **** will make you "not put up with it"? They already said it; the impact has already been made. And even if you ban them, would the impact go away if you're sensitive? Even if it does, explain to me HOW, HOW is muting them not enough? Because the problem in this case is their LANGUAGE not their GAMEPLAY, so why ruin their gameplay because of their language? It just doesn't make sense, unless you could not mute them! In Captain's last post, they put the chatlog of all they said and this guy specifically called out one person to make this so-called "joke" to. Doesn't matter if they were serious or not, this is disgusting behavior. But I'm already done with this thread. So I'll just say my piece and go. As somebody that had been told these kinds of jokes in real life, it's terrifies me that people would even do this. Especially on a game where children could be present. I, for one, don't mind a report button or something similar if people get out of hand. I know people can abuse this but that's a risk I'm willing to take.
