emerphish
So... I have survived 300+ days ez and made it through an in game year as Wes without a science machine(also ez), but for some reason I can't even beat the first world of Adventure Mode. I don't care about unlocking Maxwell. I don't care about the lore. I just need help. Where do I even start? Mobbstar
You start by picking a decent character (not Wilson or Wes). Then you find the Doorway. Then you repeatedly start your adventure until you don't get King of Winter as first chapter, because that world is tough as nails. The rest is rather self-explainatory: Gather food, build equipment, use the divining rod to detect nearby Teleportato pieces. Do NOT care about sustainability. If you know that you won't stay in an area anymore, exploit it as much as possible and carry on. Grass tufts are great fuel, rabbit holes and mushrooms can be dug, etc. Here's an overview of the worlds you will probably encounter early in the campaign: The Game is Afoot - Cruel winter, but enough resources to keep pushing on. Eventually deerclops and summer. Archipelago - Very easy, use wormholes to travel between biomes. A Cold Reception - May seem easy, but strong frog rain and fast seasons will require some wit to deal with. King of Winter - Eternal cold, Insanity Bridge requires you to go fully insane at some point. stl1234
Which world(s) can you not beat? The order changes every time. How do you die? Some resources are subsituted in worldgen. For example, a world may swap beefalo and rabbits, or wither most grass tufts. Don't run head-first into danger, use the divining rod to plan your route. The Things are usually in the center of land mass, but knowing the shoreline is useful for plotting. emerphish
My issue is everything, like I will die for food, go insane, starve, freeze, all of it. Right now I am on cold reception as Webber. I might go insane since green mushrooms are now fuel instead of sanity food. I have twoquestions. First, how long should I spend on each world. It is tempting to use the diving rod to just run from point to point, but idk if I should be making winter clothes, or trying to gtfo. Second, what impact does RoG have on adventure mode? I sincerely do not know the details on RoG adventure mode, but it is not designed with RoG in mind and has some tiny whiny bugs with it as well, so... EDIT: what do you mean "fuel"? Just chop a frikkin tree -.- Cold Reception: Gather twigs and grass for traps for frograin, acquire cooked green mushrooms for sanity, butterfly wings and raw blue mushrooms for health. Generally, you should only check the divining rod every now and then. If you find a thing, try to estimate its direction. Then go there. If there's a blocker or no direct connection, remember it for later and resume regular survival. Do not set up a permament base too early. If you have too much trouble as nomad, try playing Ms Wickerbottom. stl1234
RoG makes is a little bit more difficult, due to new mechanics added in RoG. For example, I believe for cold Reception, you also get a few days of summer in the season mix, which means you have to deal with overheating as well. But it also gives you more tools to deal with problems. For example, for Cold Reception you have access to pretty parasol as a quick means of rain protection. Adventure mode requires you to move out of your comfort zone of survival. If you can really survive 300 days in survival mode, but have trouble with adventure, I'm guessing you are only utilizing a small set of available items, right? Then in adventure mode, access to these specific items is harder, and the need for them is sooner, hence the problem. I'd suggest you to get familiar with items that you don't typically use. One major advantage you have in adventure mode is that you absolutely do not need to care about non-renewable resources. Do you need light? Go ahead and burn that berry bush. Do you need heat? Burn down that forest. Need fuel? Dig up that sapling and use it as fuel. Hungry? Dig up that rabbit hole. Still hungry? Burn that beefalo herd. There are a number of ways to restore sanity. Prototyping recipes is one of the easiest ways, you can prototype otherwise useless items to just to get the boost. Cold reception has lots of rain, so if you find a good patch of green caps, you are set. If you have enough food, you can sleep. You can also use many of the sanity restoring items. Finally, remember that this isn't survival. The goal is to get out as soon as possible. But not sooner than you need to. If you don't know the critical recipes, you should try to spend time unlocking them. Having a pre-built base before going to the next world also helps. How much you unlock is a balance between what you are missing and how terrible the world is. If you are not in a good shape, jumping off to the next one is better even if you don't have everything you need. Wiki has a lot of tips about the adventure mode as well. You should probably check that out. emerphish
I have heeded the advice I have been given. Going strong on day 6, with enough food for another 5 or 6 days and the means to get more, and start gearing up. Also, I said the wrong thing. I am on The King of Winter, and it appears that I am stuck on an island with no wormhole or way out, and the only Thing on the island was the ring. What do I do? I didn't find the bridge with the pillars that you have to go insane for. There should be a bridge to the next section, with some kind of blockade on your way. It is only a few tiles wide, so it is easy to miss if you have left even a small part of the edges unexplored. Mobbstar
Use the divining rod, maybe you find out which shore is closest to the next island. It has helped me a lot. After RoG got very solid, I tried avdenture mode again, and it works just as good. My suggestions are: Die if you started in The King of Winter Start in any of these (by dying if not): The Game is Afoot, Archipelago, A Cold Reception. Then live until you unlocked almost all of the recipes you usually need. We live with science now. Prebuild everything you need: crockpot, science+alchemy machine, chest, ice box, drying rack, tent in this world. Then, bring cane, tam and other stuff you think is important to the next world. And never try to stay in any of the following world more than 20 Days; these worlds are designed to kill you, not balanced to live a sustainable life (though you can, actually). Before leaving any of these worlds, try to prebuild anything you already placed, so you are coming to a new world, literally with a whole base in your pocket. emerphish
This is the only unexplored patch of edge space. So, uhhhh. Game over? Edit: I don't have enough gold for an alchemy engine. stl1234
That is large enough to hide a bridge. Also you can see the edges of the next section on the left, so something should be connecting to it. Mobbstar
The road indicates that the bridge could actually be there. Try to kite MacTusk around in a big circle, you can see him approach before he starts attacking you. So, simply run after Mac Tusk so he will run away from you and won't attack you back. If you run far enough, Wee Tusk will be left behind, and it is you vs. Mac. Mac will try to go back home at some point, completely forgetting your existence, that point you can tank him to death. TheTraditionalGentleman
I remember having a ton of trouble with adventure mode. I got through it as Woodie, via werebeaver form. Whenever my health/sanity got too low, I would cut down a ton of trees and transform, because while turning back from the werebeaver leaves you with low stats, it technically can raise them if they are already rock bottom. So I avoided starving with monster meat, and "healed" by going werebeaver. Not the most economical way to beat adventure mode, but it worked for me. Plus you can tank your way through all those spider nests that seem to be everywhere. The Letter W
i personally had the easiest time with webber. craft spider dens to plop down on the wooden thing set piece if you find it early on, and chances are by the time you've finished with the other pieces the spiders will have destroyed the clockworks for you. also because of spiders being a sort of gatekeeper in a way, you won't have a shortage of food as webber can eat monster meat no problem, and his lower sanity makes it rather easy to manipulate with green mushrooms and/or jerky for the bridges. i also found it a good idea that if my first level wasn't king of winter to build a little bit for it going into the next level. a few jerkys and a winter hat/beefalo hat already built helps tremendously should you get it for any of your other levels. while i see the appeal in bum-rushing the entire thing, i don't think it's a bad idea to pick one of the more resourceful levels such as archipelago, two worlds, or the game is afoot to take some time to prepare yourself. darkness sure became easy with some jerky, miner's hat, walking cane and a stack of fireflies. that's my advice anyway. i'm no expert on this. Kill some spiders for silk, or even dens; you don't maintain this world. However, keep your beard, they are good insulators.
