Does anyone ever craft the Insulated Pack?

Recommended Posts

Not only is it one of the more expensive items to craft (Thick Fur, 3 Gears, and 3 Electrical Doodads) it has very limited usefulness, and I personally consider it a waste of resources to craft this item. Using it for food storage is rather silly if you have Ice Boxes (even if you're going on an expedition food really doesn't spoil that fast anyway - even in the summer). The only useful perks this thing has is for storing Ice Cream, Melonsicles, and prolonging the life of Ham Bats while away from base. But really using 3 Gears to craft something with such a limited amount of usefulness is sad, not to mention it only has 6 slots. Another "Unique" tough to craft item that just sucks :/

I honestly agree I never used the insulted pack once, mostly because losing 2 inv slots is really a damper on space, tho I never thought of using it as a portable way to keep your hambat from spoiling fast.

Anyway, I hope they find a way to make the insulted pack better in some shape or form.

It's kinda useful for Wolfgang, he needs to carry a lot of food so he can go mighty whenever a hound attack or whatever strikes, and having a bit of extra food after mighty helps.  If you're good at inventory management, the missing 2 slots isn't a huge deal, but for something so expensive, it should have at least normal backpack slots.

I use Snow Chester instead with a krampus sack....(pls don't kill me)

ded.

Yeah I mean if anything I guess you could use it as a 2nd ice Chester if you're playing with someone else.

But seeing as to how Chester can't go into the caves anymore I guess you're gonna have to use a insulted pack

maybe they were trying to buff it by adding Hutch?

I've never crafted one, Seems like a waste to me. For a "Giant Tier" equipment it's very underwhelming, Only 6 slots, situational use, competes with Hibernation vest (arguably the best non summer clothing in the game) for the Thick fur and it's much more expensive than it's SW counterpart sea sack.

In DST i've never seen anyone with this either, unless you have mods that help with gears or a lot of luck in tumbleweeds, i don't see how it's worth the cost (would be more convenient for everyone to make 3 fridges  ). Most pub servers i go barely go past the first years and by the time second autumn* comes nobody has gears anymore since they had to make flings on summer.

I made a pack, I use it when me and my team go exploring in the caves/ruins, otherwise I use my krampus sack.

This is the only other scenario where I would imagine an insulated pack being used in DST... a dedicated picnic basket player who caters to the hunger of other players... like a medic of sorts... other than that, a full stack of bacon and eggs and/or jerky would be better if you don't want an ice pack...

MOODIC!...Also why bacon and eggs? Honey ham is far superior...But if you'd rather take bacon and eggs that's your choice not mine! ^_^

Bacon and eggs is cheaper.  1 Monster meat, 2 eggs (rotted misc. meats), 1 morsel VS. 1 monster meat, 2 morsels, 1 honey or 1 meat, 1 monster meat, 1 filler, 1 honey.

Well, I was stating that bacon and eggs and Jerky were foods that have a long expiration date ;) so as to bypass the use of the ice pack or snow chester :3

I don't know about "far superior"...  Honey Ham restores 10 more health than Bacon & Eggs (30 instead of 20), but Bacon & Eggs is both FAR easier to mass huge amounts of and takes 5 days longer to spoil than the Honey Ham (20 days instead of 15).

They both restore the exact same amount of Hunger and Sanity, so that's moot.  I'd rather take Bacon & Eggs w/ me everywhere I go.

Honestly, I don't even bother w/ Jerky much either, since Bacon & Eggs heals the same amount of health and fills 3x as much Hunger while lasting the same amount of time (20 days).

Jerky does restore more Sanity than Bacon & Eggs, but I'd generally just sleep in a tent if I really need to restore Sanity that much.  Unless I'm playing Wicker, of course.

On topic, though:  No, never have I ever made an Insulated Pack.  I kinda feel that if I DID find somebody running around w/ one, the immediate assumption would be they either don't know what they're doing or are some kind of troll...  <.<

Weird I always thought Honey ham would've taken longer to spoil since it had some honey in it, and honey is a natural preservative, well my bad for applying real life to video games. :/

Your logic is sound.  I was also pretty surprised by just how good Bacon & Eggs are, which I think is the real culprit.

For someone like me who kills w/ impunity and usually has a never-ending pile of Big Meats and Monster Meats, it's a no-brainer.
