In it's current form, dry season doesn't add any fun or challenge to the game

Recommended Posts

At least it doesn't for me. I usually go about the season, just as i would any other, except every other day i have to run around on the neighbouring island for half a day. Food isn't a problem either, because the stuff is so stupidly abundant in Shipwrecked.

It just gets tedious. Whenever my main world enters dry season, i kinda go on a hiatus, and i've found that i go through it half as fast because i'd rather watcch streamers play Don't Starve, than play it like any other season, except half of the tie is spent running around dodging shadows.

I'd take the RoG approach any day over this, because it poses a question, go out and about in the world and gather food/explore at the risk of dying of overheating, or hunker down at base and potentially die of starvation.

I don't know if it's just me, but i find dry season way less enjoyable than any other season, effectively making me dislike 1/4th of the whole expansion.

RoG approach was boring.

Until summer you had every reason to be attached to your base, and in summer you had to either lose it, run the hell away or spend tons of resources on flingos.

Dry Season for me at least is more of "a go on sea, and STAY THERE" season. Basically, explore for the entire season and when you hear the eruptions, that's your cue to go to sea.

I would love to have it be even more focused on that, as its a great concept.

I don't go exploring in the summer becasue i don't want the islands to get wrecked. I also stay on land when the volcano starts becasue i we obsidian. To me its better then the ROG summer but it can get boring doing the same thing over and over. :) Just my opinion.

I think Dry Season could do with being a touch more forgiving.

I just got smooshed by a falling boulder out at sea, resurrected with the eruption still in progress, got smooshed again and then resurrected on a tiny island with no grass, no vines and one tree that wasn't incinerated by magma pools. (Also no food.) So my options at this point are to starve or die of heat exposure.

Really I think just having volcanic eruptions STOP when you resurrect would be enough.

I just don't find instakill fun, ever.

Even the night monster doesn't instakill you, rocks should fatally wound you, even bypassing armor but not instakill you.

Neither do the Dragoon Eggs. They deal 300 damage. With full health and just a log suit (>53%), all characters can survive a direct hit.

So that's why Wickerbottom's book does so little damage.

Meteors instakill, but the book fires Dragoon Eggs.

Welp, guess it's just me with that opinion...

On another note, how the hell are you supposed to sacrifice anything to the volcano if it oonly works during summer, but you start overheating as soon as you enter it?

Volcanic eruptions throw Dragoon Eggs at you, not meteors. Meteors only exist in DST. You don't have to take my word for it, you can check the wiki, or simply try it yourself.

Thermal Stones? Umbrella? Floral Shirt? Ceviche? There are many ways to deal with overheating. Maybe you can place Ice Boxes on the way to the altar with replacement Thermal Stones.

I did check the wiki and you are right, but I would've swore that a dragoon egg instantly killed me on a fully repaired armored boat, it also instakilled my Packim Baggims even though he has way more than 300 health.

Was that changed at some point?

Speculation on this. Maybe the egg did 300 damage but being at the spawn point of several big waves was the breaking point for your boat.

Then how can you explain this:

I watched the stream and Baggins took no damage before and they were on a calm island. Baggims has 450 health.

That video is from 3 (4 including today's) updates ago, December 11 2015.

Here is one with the Feb 4 update, started a few seconds before the hit, but I don't know how to specify the stop time:

Fairly long, but you'll notice that he gets hit multiple times.

You can always try this in game (though I didn't check what happened after today's update)

Baggins is not wearing any armor. The player can wear armor which allows him/her to survive (With full health for some weaker chars)

Which is why asked if it was changed at some point.

I had a bit the other day where, though it was hard to keep track, I did see Packim hit by a falling rock at sea and survive only to get whomped by another.

I also ended up having an eruption at night on the sea with very little boat health and only a boat torch for light.

Ended up being smooshed just as I was reaching dry land. Ouch.

Now I'm stranded on an island in dry season with no sticks for tools because I somehow forgot to put them in my touchstone stash. :/ It's going to be a boring couple of days waiting for the next eruption to either demolish a crockpot or, hopefully, smash in a mangrove tree in such a way that it'll drop some twigs within arm's reach.
