Wilbur Discussion -SPOILERS-

Hello Hello!

Cutting to the chase, "Wilbur Vs. The Volcano" has to be one of the BEST updates I've seen since "Giant Steps". I mean, everyone was sorta looking for Watricia or Woodlegs and Volcano Caves but, WILBUR?! Ever since I saw those GREEDY feces throwing monkey turds I thought to myself. These guys sorta remind me of Wilbur. And when someone mentioned Volcano Caves I thought, WHOA, cool stuff! I mean, they basically took the classic Caves, and injected them with violent amounts of Steroids. And the way you Unlock Wilbur? So cool. So if you guys wanna share pics of the new update and some funny moments with everyone's favorite Monkey king, go for it!

I was sure Shipwrecked was going to add Wilbur, I thinked he was going to have an thick beard, like the prime apes. But, This is the original, no texture changes. Which personally I preffer this one. So, I guess he actually governs the prime apes. They're throwing me cut grass and thingies. Also, I like his running animation. Gets even more cooler when you hold an spear or some cool weapon.

that was a bug.  he's not supposed to unlock with xp, but if you did you get to keep him.

But I kinda feel disappointed that he doesn't talk.

I agree.. if webber can talk then Wilbur should be able to.

Also, What do you think about the voice instrument? Sincerely I preffered an Prime Ape / Splumonkey like sounds. Also, his sound it's too. Low.

I kinda agree. While it's understandable, because... like.... monkeys can't talk, It would've been cool if he said things like "RED HOT BURN ME!" when on fire or "LOYAL BUDDY." when inspecting prime apes. Although I'd still like a few ooks and ooh ooh ah ah's in his quotes.

Wes not talking fits to his character and to him being the hardmode. You are now in hardmode, you can't examine anything and you need to listen for hounds, no useful information from using the examine.

But Wilbur... he's just a character... he should have lines, Webber is a human child inside a spider but Wilbur isn't an ordinary monkey, he's clearly different from all the other monkeys.

I would love if Wilbur's quotes were like Wolfgang's quotes.

"Ha Ha, the tree is floppy" for example sounds like something a monkey would say.

Wolfgang-ish Quotes + Bad Grammar = Wilbur's Quotes

I imagined him going all "monkey" voice. Although, I actually like his current voice, but it really is low. It's weird. Might be a bug?

Wilbur feels like a boat, but on land. He needs a while to get his speed up, and instantly slows down when he wants to pick up something or whatever.

His running perk is good only for quick exploration and running away from enemies. Quick exploration is nice, I'll give you that, but just running away never solves problems in this game.

Monkeys... I mostly tend kill them or avoid, well, as Wilbur they weren't stealing my stuff at least.

Honestly, I felt like I was playing Wes  Can't talk, low sanity, low health, faster hunger drain (when running, so basically most of the time).

He has faster hunger drain while running?

Giving an upside and then giving a downside to this same upside seems counter-productive, imagine if Willow's Lighter slowly burned her.

I think thats false, I don't see something on wilbur's code who increase his hunger consume

Because it's coded in the stategraph. From SGwilson.lua:

Webber can talk because they are an indigested kid that was eaten by a spider, and they, kind of, become one. Wilbur might be from the circus that Maxwell (as William Carter) used to work in, along with Wes and Wolfgang, so that is why he is smarter than other monkeys and can do more stuff, maybe the king title and costume were just for the show, but monkeys are silly so they think he is in fact a king.

it could be the crown itself that makes Wilbur more clever. Kind of like that one monkey in Futurama with the hat. But the other monkeys are too stupid to wear the crown on their heads

Anyone knows a good way to even just find the Raft with him?

Cause I got the Crown and now i need to find Wilbur to give it to him.

Also as a sidenote it seems like you don't directly have to kill apes for the Crown to drop. I befriended some Apes while trying to get it and one just tossed it towards me. Although maybe that one just happend to pick it up even though that would be a really bad thing.

But I want to unlock him the right way, is there any way I can undo it and unlock him the way he was meant to?

I think his interaction with monkeys is weak.

wilbur should have an army of house wifes and not a battle army(like webber), you can use as battle army but not as efficient as webber.

my sugestions could be:

1-Apes could gather stuff and save them inside the prime apes houses and wilbur should be able to acess prime ape houses(just like a chest) and collect it for himself.

2-You could pet them and make them collect stuff for you in farms.

3-With this approach wilbur would be a camp oriented character as summer would be his worst season since he can't camp.

4- you could craft diferent type prime ape houses, some more oriented to collet other spawn monkeys oriented to fight in a sense of more HP and more damage type monkey(this sugestion i think is a bit op but I just like the character).

He would not be like webber since spiders are pure fight oriented with one MM you can recruit many, wilbur could do the same but you would have to feed many monkeys in order to have same number of army as webber. 

what you guys think?

I think that this would be a great idea, if Klei could implement something like this, some actual quotes (I like a few ooh ah's but I would love some pig man style dialogue), and maaaaybe having him always be on all fours like when he's running, I think he would quickly become one of my favorite characters. The only thing I would change from that is maybe not have him craft different types of prime ape huts, I don't know why it just feels a bit overpowered to me....
