After a brief searching, Syndir finally spotted it—his cactus spike staff. It was partially buried in the sand several paces away, but it wasn't going to be as easy as simply walking up to it and grabbing it. No. Such luck would never befall a prestigious shaman such as himself, but he would pass this trial just as he had the last. Mustering up all his remaining strength, he trudged on over to the worthy foe that guarded his precious artifact. A... crabbit.

Anyone else might mistake it for any other crabbit, but Syndir wasn't so naive. He could tell just by looking into its eyes that it had fought many battles. This fight wouldn't be easy, but in the end he woul—his train of thought was cut off as the crabbit let out a shrill shriek and shuffled away. Instinctively, Syndir let loose his own shriek that rivaled the morsel and quickly buried his head into the sand. When he was sure it had retreated he rose back up as rigid as ever and laughed triumphantly, "A mere glance and my adversary flees! Shows you right!

Satisfied with the outcome, Syndir began to reach down to retrieve his staff when he heard a strange voice. In a succession of movements, he both picked up his lost item and swung around to greet whoever it may have been behind him. "Saluta—"

He hadn't even managed to spew out a single word before he realized what he was looking at. There was only one explanation...

It was the crabbit's true form!

Meritursas tilts his head in confusion.  What did "saluta" mean?  Perhaps this more brightly-colored human was a member of a less-advanced subspecies, and Saluta was its name?  Its actions certainly seemed to suggest this.

"hi...Saluta.  I...Meritursas."   He speaks very slowly.

Syndir's stared momentarily, and then spluttered out nonsense, "B-behind you a-a t-tsunami!" His hand refused to raise as a pointer, and his legs buckled before he had a chance to run.

(To be clear he is bluffing)

He was going to be eaten for sure, Syndir was sure of this, but he could at least go out in style. The awakened crabbit seemed to think he was dead—this was of course Syndir's plan all along... For you see, inside the urn he had buckled to his waist was nothing other than an ample amount of gunpowder.

In a slow twitching fashion, he scooped it up and then threw it at the beast—completely oblivious to the fact that its contents had emptied during his flight—and shouted some sort of war scream/cry.

Kate came to a line of stones jutting out of the water and leading to another island that was closer to the really big one. It was safe to assume this is where Wiffleball went, but the stones were kinda far apart... Taking a deep breath, she braced herself and made the first leap. She took a moment to regain her balance, then repeated.

Viridis looked over at where the scream she heard was, and saw Meritursas grab something from the shore. She wanted to investigate, but saw Mark lying on the ground and wondered if he was okay. She got up, dragged herself over to him and asked "How... are you... doing...?"

Jaw climbs on the rock and breaks a piece of fish which he hands to Noctimus.

"LOOK, TINY HELPER. I GET FOOD. IT COME FROM THE WATER. FOOD LIVE IN THE WATER. BUT, NOT ONLY FOOD, ENEMY TOO LIVE IN THE WATER. ENEMY WAIT FOR YOU TO STEP IN WHAT YOU THINK IS NO DANGER WATER, BUT."

He gets closer to Noctimus.

"IT IS DANGER WATER. SEA. IS DANGER."

He then points at himself.

"BUT ME. YOU LOOK ME NOW, YOU SEE MEMBER OF SHIP OF PEOPLE AND MONSTERS. BUT SOON. ME WILL BE KING OF THE SEA."

He stands up.

"NO MORE DANGER!" *closes his fists in front of his face* "WHEN I KILL ALL SHARX AND RULE THE SEA!"

(Jaw is a genocidal, self-absorbed human/shark mutation who wants to slaughter his entire race, yet at the same time speaks in hilariously broken english, is a complete klutz, and has the intelligence of coral.  I love this character.)
