Inconsistency with how Wendy looks ...

Wendy looks very cuuuuuuuute, BUT ...

... this peaceful smile is kinda inconsistent with her quotes.

e.g. "I envy his escape." - quote when Wendy examining a skeleton

In the old game, she is girl obsessed with death and never smiles.

Maybe it's because something had traumatized her too hard, therefore Abigail was the last thing that she could lose. So when Abigail died, there was nothing in the world that could make her happy anymore.

So it is weird that she only smiles when she is using a sail.

If she can smile like this again, then it means her emotional trauma has been cured, or at least she sees some hope.

If her trauma has been cured, she should have let go Abigail and so Abigail could rest in peace.

But that didn't happen.

But I don't know how this is gonna be fixed. Any ideas?

Now I am imagining Wendy blankly staring at the camera without blinking with a pissed expression whenever you use a sail.

Peaceful, yeah... smiling? Is she? I can't see much of her mouth enough to tell but it looks pretty much like a straight line to me. Also, I never really figured her for depressed, just morbid. I bet she smiles when she's killing butterflies...

This does bring up some interesting points. First, there is shared dialogue between a lot of characters. "What a boaring house." "It's a... thing." I can't think of too many off the top of my head, but the sailing animation falls under a similar category of being shared between characters. I think a lot of the dialogue will be changed in the future so that each character has their out comments on every different item. The expansion just isn't far enough along in development to have that part of the game ready. The same thing might apply to the sailing animation. They may patch it to make Wendy more solemn-looking as would be more true to the character, but honestly, I think this is something that will be overlooked. I just can't see them giving Wendy a special sailing animation even if the tweaks necessary would be small.

That doesn't look like a smile to me, DreamApart.

That's probably because this screenshot is not the best moment, and it's static.

If it's in the game you may agree.

Yes, this makes sense.

First, there is shared dialogue between a lot of characters. "What a boaring house." "It's a... thing."

"It's a... thing" is the filler for characters quotes which is why it is shared by so much characters, try to examine everything and you will see there is a lot of... things that use that quote.

Yeah, but the image for a character is obviously not a placeholder.

I will look out for it! But a nice serene sail could bring a fleeting smile to the most serial grump... Just Wendy and her dead sister, chilling out on the waves...

I have a theory that all of the characters brought to Don't Starve were offered something by Maxwell - for Wilson, as we know, it was knowledge; similar for Wickerbottom, who wanted to be able to publish her own books; Woodie was maybe offered a cure - or at least a solution - for his curse; Wolfgang was offered the chance to be truly mighty and Wigfrid the role of her dreams; I reckon Wendy was offered the chance to be reunited with her sister. Of them all, I therefore think Wendy was the least cheated in Maxwell's interpretation of the bargain, and could occasionally find a little happiness in this world. (I also have a much darker theory that it was Wendy who killed her poor sister in the first place...)

I can't think what poor Webber would have been offered... maybe he was lonely and wanted a friend, so Maxwell had him eaten and combined with the spider so he would never be alone again? I'm also not sure about Willow (the freedom to start fires without being punished?), WX-78 (to live?) or Wes (...)

Having checked the zoomed version again, it's not exactly a smile, it is more like a peaceful but proud look.

The pride perfectly fits Wilson's character, but as for Wendy, the inconsistency is still there.

aside from wilson no one was offered anything, abigail died in a train wreck Wickerbottom was caught trying to debunk Maxwell (know-it-all) Webber was affiliated with the previous occupant of the shadow throne (he was eaten by a spider and Wilson revived him accidentally through magic, WX78 was also there to begin with probably dormant, Wigfrid and Wolfgang were in the same circus as Maxwell, Woodie and Wendy got in through (and this is a guess) a mistake during a magic experiment by Maxwell while travelling on the circus train, (same train wreck that killed abigail) Woodie mentions working on the railroad if you examine nitre and Wes.....he's a mime, they're annoying, probably just ran afoul of Maxwell who's sense of humor is somewhat lacking these are my guesses anyway

Isn´t this true with most characters?

Not sure, but at least ...

Look at Maxwell sailing, with eyes opened.

(Ignore the sword in his hand, it doesn't affect the face. I just don't have a screenshot for him at the same perspective on hand now, but you get the idea.)
