so theres 5 days left of winter, i wake up from a sleeping roll and i hear deerclops, he makes a b-line straight for a couple of my crock pots and destroys 2, i hit him with my walking cane just to lure him away and i got hit, i panicked and didnt know what to do so i ran to the local heard of 16 beefalo. deerclops slaughtered them all, and i finished him off by luring him into tooth traps.

i really want my poor beefalo back, so my question is, if i spawn them back, will they stay in the same area? or will the wonder off into the world because they have been cheated in?

help pls

On how to kill Deerclops without needing the Tooth Traps.

When you hear it, run away from your base. If it's night, build a torch and run away still. This prevents too much destruction. Never lure him into beefalo herds (unless you really want them dead). As tempting as it may sound, Deerclops will freeze and slaughter them all. From this point on, you have two choices. The first one is using a Pan Flute and 14 Gunpowder. It's the simplest, you put the giant to sleep with the flute and then place a stack of 14 gunpowder right next to that big head of its, and light it with either a torch or Fire Staff. The second one is MLG BRUTEFORCE THE F OUT OF THAT THING, a method in which you will be kiting the Deerclops. The giant will attack first when it first goes near you, so you will get just close enough for it to start its attack animation, then you run away, which will put you right outside the range of its attack, and as soon as its icicles rise, run back into Deerclops and strike it twice, three times only if you're fast enough to change into the Walking Cane as soon as the third hit lands, and then run away again, and go back again when the icicles go up, rinse and repeat. If the first method doesn't kill Deerclops straight away, use the second method to finish it off.

For the second method, keep in mind:

Deerclops drains a lot of sanity, so it is advisable to have stacks of either Cooked Meat or Cooked Cactus with you, which restore 15 sanity on consumption. To restore your sanity during the fight, just run further away after the giant attacks, eat some, then go back, wait for it to attack again, and then go back to using your brute force.

It is advisable to have a Logsuit equipped and a reserve one in your inventory, this will prevent that messing up some times will totally disrupt you.

Finally, this.

To actually answer the OP's question and not whatever the two above me think he's asking...

Yes, if you spawn a Beefalo into your world, they will take up residence in whatever area you spawn them. They'll graze, have babies, and do whatever else they would've otherwise done.

Just like Quyzbuk said.

And regarding on dealing with Deerclops - if I'm not wrong, after you hear the first growl it will take ~2 min for him to spawn or 1.5 min. Just go away from your base, if you want, you can build 2 signs and he'll target those but I hardly find that necessary. You don't need gunpowder or ranged weaponry to deal with him.

Simply have cooked green mushrooms ready to regain your sanity after the fight and facetank him with 2 log suits and 2 football helmets and a hambat (you said you play vnailla DS, so hambat should be your all-time weapon, unlimited 59.5 dmg for 10 days? yes please). And just so you don't freeze to death, do it near a goodly lit campfire and you'll be fine.

It will also be easy since Deerclops won't freeze you in vanilla if I recall correctly.

Man,just prepare 1 log suit,1 football helmet,1 tentacle spike and 1 marble suit. And no boss(except dragonfly) would be problem. Build a wall around your base and when they come, they just start breaking walls.I make 2 line of walls.

Perhaps, just perhaps, comments trying to educate the OP on how to better handle Deerclops would help and also be valid, but just perhaps. I really didn't get the post, but now I see I had the correct answer all along and just totally could have posted it instead of saying something I thought would be helpful either the Beefalo did or did not stay where they were spawned.

I hope you understand irony

The OP asked a simple question and even up to now, I've been the only person to actually read and answer it. He didn't ask for tips for fighting the Deerclops, he didn't edit his post (unlike someone here trying to pass it off as irony... it's not), he just wanted to know if the spawner command would place Beefalo that would act like the Beefalo he lost.

Trying to "educate" someone who didn't ask for education, is not only annoying, it can be insulting. I don't know about him, but if this was my question, I'd be pretty pissed at everyone right now for not actually answering me.

To start off, I did read his question, and as I stated in my last post, I did not know the answer, and facing another problem that he had (panicking on Deerclops attack), I tried to provide another form of help. It's just called interpreting the whole text.

Also, did you just say my post wasn't irony just to demoralise it? I mean, irony can just simply be using something to mean the opposite. I understand that I used the most basic (or "pleb") level of irony, but it still classifies as such. Something similar goes for editing. In the original version, I didn't think I sent my message well enough, so I changed it. It's also not like I'm hiding it, there's a really big thing there saying I edited the post.

About educating, I really thought one of this forums' purposes was to share experiences, Don't Starve depending on that more than all the other games. As previously stated, I interpreted that the OP was panicking during a Deerclops attack, and all I tried was to do something to help with said panic, since I did not have an answer to his main question.

EDIT:

If you want to continue this argument, please let's do it through private messages, I don't think mods will be very happy about this thread going this way.

My god, does everyone follow the same cookie cutter routine here? There's not even any argument! Stop taking offense to every god damn thing that is said and drop it right here and now. Moving on...

Sorry if it sounded like I was taking offense in it. Also, an argument is just a discussion of different viewpoints about something, it doesn't imply any offensive content. I just thought the posts were off-topic enough to not belong here. Sorry again if it sounded different.

can i just make a telelocator and focus, and just stay at my base so when he comes i can teleport him away? because if i run away from my base, he'll just destory it...

The suggestion was running away as soon as its approaching sounds start, which is more than enough time for you to go away and have the Giant spawn already away from your base. In another hand, you could just hit him with something and then run away pretty fast, making sure he's always got aggro on you.

but will the telelocator work? i cbf running away, espically since i sleep alot during winter, last time i slept, woke up and had no time to run away cause he was virtually at my camp when i woke up, so a telelocator would be preferable, will it work? or will i teleport him away and he'll just come right back? also if im in a cave during winter, will he spawn in the cave?

It will be very expensive, but yeah, it would work. I don't know, though, if Deerclops can destroy the Telelocator Focus. I'd recommend planting a lot of trees around the Focus, too. Treeguards could spawn and take the giant on, and you'd have yourself a pretty wood farm.

Edit:

I just noticed the pun on the last sentence

He won't destroy the telelocator focus if you stay far away until winter's over.  I still think it'd be easier just to fight him, though.  And no, he won't spawn in a cave.  Outside when you leave, maybe.

I suppose you'll be scouring the coast for flotsam, now?  Purple gems aren't quite as rare as they used to be.  That's at most one purple gem every 4.5 days... obtaining 4 purples in a 20 day summer is only barely possible and requires a fair bit of luck.

Has something changed in RoG for some reason?  I mean, I never see anyone commenting on the effectiveness of keeping a treeguard close to deal with deerclops. They pretty much almost kill each other. So can get drops from both. Best of both worlds.

Treeguards are also neutral if you don't chop trees near them and don't wander off too far. Gotta love them guardies.

Meh.  I had a treeguard in my base once.  It killed a fire hound.  Right next to my 16 drying racks and 30 chests.  I was not pleased with the results.  Much easier just to kill the deerclops myself, I think.

YOu can always drive a deerclop to a Forest, she downs the trees, spawn the tree Guards and then they kill it. :D
